Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA867 MEL-SYD

First time I get to fly over the city twice due to delays 🫠

Chicken parmigiana or cheese and tomato ravioli. Went for the ravioli.

Orders taken: 1D-F, 2D-F, 2A-C, 1A-C
Orders served: 1A had a snack, 1C had a meal I couldn't identify, from the gap (I was in 2A), 1F had a meal I couldn't identify, 2C had the parmigiana (and like five glasses of wine over two hours; no wonder she couldn't find her phone that she left behind on the centre armrest table), 1D had the ravioli, then I got my ravioli ... And lost track at that point.

Same thing on same flight number today except this time I didn't get to choose what meal I wanted as there was only chicken parmigiana left by the time the CM took my order. Orders taken were 1A-F, 2D (2F was empty; 2D was travelling with 1A and 1C), 2A (me) and 2C. Service was 1A-F, 2A-D. Going to assume 1A also had the tortellini along with 1C and 1F.

First VA flight in years for me.
Old plane, no inseat power.
SYD-BNE. Seat 1A. I had my SQ Gold on the booking. Mr D is VA Silver.

PDB offered of water or Sparkling wine.
Went the wine.
Meal orders taken prior to departure
1A/C, 1D/F, 2D/F. Served in that order.
2A/C were empty.
Can’t recall the cold dish but we both chose the quiche with mashed potato.
Mash was yummy.

Excellent service by the CSM.
Food was fresh and tasty. Wine top ups offered.

Had the same vegetable quiche with mash on my SYD to MEL a couple of weeks ago and it is interesting there was no chocolate on our meal trays. Agree the mash was delicious.

Not sure if this has to do with the fact that our flight left at 11am which maybe a refreshment flight.

Other option was a hot ruben sandwich which my wife enjoyed.

Service was good as drinks were topped up during the flight.

VA981 SYD-BNE Sun 7 May: friendly, engaging and attentive service from the CM (Natalie?) with red wine top ups freely given. PDB sparkling wine. Had the chicken parmi, really really nice, especially notable was the charred brocollini which tasted like it had come straight off my charcoal barbie (how do they do that?). Sorry, no pics, but identical to above pic.

VA946 BNE-SYD Tue 9 May: friendly, engaging and attentive service from the CM (Matt - a bit of a comedian) with red wine top ups freely given. PDB sparkling wine. Hot open ruben sandwich, very nice, bread was a bit soft, could have been a bit toastier. Sorry no pics.

The rope was in operation for both sectors. Priority boarding did not happen in SYD, was actually a shambles at the boarding gates. BNE was fine.

HBA-SYD Thai green curry. It was as nice as I remembered. Terrific beer too.

SYD-DPS truffled Mac and cheese and tomato sauce with a side of beetroot dip/pita, and a chocolate mousse cake. The alternative was the green curry we were served HBA-SYD. They took my order first, then 2D/F, 1A/C, 2A/C. I think the chaps in 2D/F might have had status too. I’m happy to report the mac and cheese did not taste like fake truffle (or real truffle for that matter).

I had the chicken curry for the first time tonight! It was delicious!

Question for twinaisle… IFE not working at all. CSM had written it up and engineers unable to fix on the ground. Does this get actioned by VA in terms of auto compensation? Or is that not something VA does? I’m thinking 2000 points is reasonable?

Anyone got pictures or detail of Sydney to Bali meals and service?

Don't expect much, and don't expect any lounge access before departure. BYO pillow and blanket.

The meals, drinks and service are outstanding in bus class, above and beyond what I expected, they will love it.
I don't have pics of the meals, but I'm certain they won't be disappointed.
As they are departing from SYD the domestic lounge isn't an option before departure (too far).
There are low cost options if the lounge access for international business class isn't launched before then.
When are they departing?

I think they need to decide if they are serious about international travel, to be so would require lounge access of some sort at major ports & very clearly advertised.

I can understand shuti g down some domestic lounges, mid / hybrid carrier blah blah, fair enough.

Personally I would travel in J internationally so not overly fussed about a lounge, but it really is required.

Fly J but no lounge access, that's not good different!

Totally agree, J will definitely have access included in the fare, at certain departure points.
They are well aware they need to provide something more for loyal passengers and those.in J.
It's crunch time now and I, along with a couple of others on here have been advised an announcement is imminent.
Yes, they are very slow rebuilding this,.it's an unfortunate situation so far.
Better times are ahead :)

I had the Parmi on the way to Fiji and thought they did a great job of it considering it was prepared on a plane. Also a refreshing change compared to usual inflight catering (across any airline).
