Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Saturday, 6 April VA266 BNE/ADL

Priority Boarding: I'll never know as I was the last pax on board (although an FA was the last to board having signed on late). That will teach me to chat to acting Lounge Manager Bonnie.

Load: I was the only one in J.

CSS: Lara, FA: Mark

Breakfast: Options were either Bircher museli or Bacon & Egg tortilla. I chose the latter. A nice tasting meal, perhaps a little too much parsley.

Saturday, 6 April VA226 ADL/MEL

Priority Boarding: Awesome. Arrived at Gate 14 after sprinting from Hertz to Security. Had to walk swiftly past the Lounge and as I turned the corner, saw that boarding had only just commenced and the line would have been 100 deep. Strolled past the line around to the dedicated PB line - I was the only one
so got on board significantly earlier.

Load: 3 in J (all Row 3)

CSS: Linda; FA: Lorraine (probably the oldest FA I've met on VA)

Drink on arrival: Mocktail

I had a paroxysm of coughing and Linda was very concerned for me, got me another water and fussed over me. Wonderful caring attitude and a lovely personality. MEL based and look forward to flying with her again.

Snack: Smoked Trout and potato salad with horseradish or Cheese Plate - no prizes for guessing which I chose (see photo). Served with a 2010 Cab Sauv Merlot. Nice but meal needed some additional sauce which I commented to Linda and she agreed - will take it up with Catering Management. Belgian White Chocolate ice cream was a nice finish.

Saturday, 6 April VA341 MEL/BNE

Priority Boarding: Made my way to the Gate when first announced in Lounge. Arrived prior to boarding started so camped at the beginning of the PB line. Was first to scanner when called.

Load: 5 in J

CSS: Kate; FA: Brendon

Drink on arrival: Mocktail

Female Captain with a silky smooth voice and spoke very naturally prior to take-off. Co-pilot Angus McSporran (almost had to laugh under my breath).

Snack: Cheese Plate or Beef and Asian Noodle Salad. Again, no prizes as this was dinner. Same red wine as last sector. By far the best meal of the day - spicy without ones tongue trying to escape from ones mouth, beef coated with a dressing that gave it back some moisture. Kate agreed that it was better than "chicken or beef", so had to tell her about the thread of similar name. Tip - Hokey Pokey ice cream best eaten well after imbibing red wine.

It is of concern that on your last three flights the vego option was either a cheese plate or muesli vs rather tasty looking hot meals. It is now quite unlikely that I will be flying VA. I have a better meal choice on JQ!

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering

No, was in J. but it shouldn't matter if it was F or J. If it cant be served right, it shouldn't be served at all. Hate to imagine what they serve in Y!
How long ago? You may have just been unfortunate by the sounds of things:(

I didn't take pics as it was full on both sectors I flew. Really happy with quality of food both sectors and the FA's on both.

Fri 19th April: 2pm Mel-Syd

Offered the mocktail or water prior to take off

Choice of Mediterranean Salad with Prosciutto or Olive, Herb and Feta Pie. I chose the pie...was very good. Man next to me had the salad of which he said wasn't that great (complained too much prosciutto and too chewy)
Usual choice of warm bread rolls with butter. Also a meringue tart.
Full drinks service offered

Sat 20th April: 11am

Orange Juice or Water prior to take off

Choice of Prawn/Zucchini Fritters or Egg and Bacon Tart with relish. I chose the tart which wasn't soggy, very tasty...enjoyed
Warm bread roll with sultanas in it, plus a mango yoghurt.
Choice of various drinks of which I had 2 cups of tea, which were very good. FA was pleased that I enjoyed

Excellent "snacks" for the time of the day the flights were on. Presentation and taste of meals excellent.

A few more from me with a trip on the weekend:

VA654 SYD-CBR 19/4
J load 1/6 only (2F) on E90 (first time in a refitted E90, and the first E90 flight in a while - damn they're fun and agile, especially when the wind is blowing a gale!)

First part of a SYD-CBR-BNE leg I did Friday afternoon. I've not done that flight before, wow it's a short sector, only 30 minutes flight time- I'm surprised they bother trying to give a full service and I can't imagine it working if you had more than a couple in the cabin.

Ann was outstanding, offering pre takeoff drinks (water/mocktail), then the paper, and very quickly brought me the 'afternoon snack'. I chose the prawn rice paper rolls (over the cheese plate), and was drinking a Rymill "mc2" - Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc. Very drinkable. On the tray was a vanilla ice cream which I didn't have (Ann highly recommended it, and then said she was going to have to keep it for herself later), and a warm roll which I did (not pictured). Roll wasn't too hard.
Only complaint about the rice paper rolls was that there was a bit too much vermicelli, could have done with more greenery inside and was a bit chewy.

Offered tea and coffee pretty much on descent but declined. Crazy fast flight.

A quick stint in the CBR lounge (very nice new facility, I had water but didn't eat anything as had another flight to get on, but they were serving what looked like hot dogs...) before getting on a different E90 for:

VA1225 CBR-BNE 19/4
J load 3/6 (2F) on E90. Mocktail or water offered pre-takeoff.

I don't remember the Cabin Supervisor's name, but she was very friendly and efficient. 1A and myself both took the warm option, which was a "buffalo mozzarella panini" which came with some roasted eggplant inside. A bit of a messy dish, not really able to be eaten with knife and fork and pretty oozy for a pick-up panini, but the flavours were very good. Plenty more of the Rymill mc2 flowing and the sweet (I think an orange cake) was pretty tasty. Soy/linseed roll offered even though I already had bread on my tray, this was dinner so I accepted and enjoyed.

The other option was a chicken and (something I forget, maybe pumpkin?) cold salad.

The only thing I found strange about this flight was the First Officer came out after the meal service and chatted with the FAs for about 20 minutes until descent. Something I hadn't really seen before.

Had a great weekend in Brissie, and then this afternoon flew:

VA962 BNE-SYD 21/4
J load 3/8 (2A) on 738. Mocktail or water offered pre-takeoff.

Lara was great, very bubbly and friendly. She hadn't tried the red (again the same Rymill mc2) and we had a chat about tasty reds, but I was happy to keep drinking that one.
Choice of afternoon snack again, was either a cold hokkien noodle salad with pork and vegetables, or the cheese plate. The couple in 2D/F both chose the cheese plate, and I went the noodle salad. It was tasty enough, maybe could have done with a bit of dressing or some herbs on top. Warm roll offered and a "Hokey" ice cream on the plate, which was very tasty.

Drink was kept nice and full and I definitely was feeling the platinum love, Lara made sure I was kept watered and fed, and offered me cheese "or anything else" as well after I'd finished the salad, which I declined as I was having dinner at home.

On the whole, three great flights, three pretty decent (IMO) "afternoon snack" options, +120SCs and an awesome weekend in Brissie. A great weekend as a newly minted VA Platinum member - now where's my card and kit, damnit (my "poor" bag is still adorned with the gold bag tag, don't you know who I am? ;) )

Had the 'eggplant and lemon cous cous salad with harissa dressing' on a lunchtime flight on the weekend. It didn't look good (looked like it had been dropped from a great height) and didn't taste much better (the dressing was very gluggy and extremely spicy. I would avoid if you are offered!

Really enjoying the mocktails - nice and light and fresh and zingy. I had 4 of them on the weekend on various flights (5 if you count the one that was made into a coughtail!).

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering

SYD-MEL VA838 on 1st April. Some cous cous, IMO hardly appetising!

I believe this was the one you had (or similar) smit0847, the cous cous i mean :)

Some more afternoon snacks on bne-syd and mel-syd.

Olive, tomato and feta tart

Mixed vegetables of some sort
1366796873192.jpg

On one service 1/8... on the other 8/8 (although plane after was substantially delayed so some flow forward)

NTL - MLB 1400 yesterday, hubby had Vientamese rice paper rolls which he said were very tasty and Fat Yak beers, I had the cheese plate (yes I like it) and the WA SSB I've been enjoying for a couple of months now. I love the hokey pokey ice cream but alas I got a spoon but no ice cream, got excited last week on a BNE flight when the tray came out with a little tub on it only to find it was natural yoghurt, we had a mouthful and that was it, sourest yoghurt I've ever tasted, I use plain yoghurt for dips and marinades not for eating as dessert, could have given at least a flavored one or better still the ice cream!

dk4 has become a coast2coast pig!

After eating my way through a bowl of nuts, bread roll, an entrée, the side salad AND a main meal... I then move onto the equivalent of a B737 snack flight, by ordering both the cheese and dessert.

What happened to my table cloth!! Did I eat that too?

And then, the FA's make the mistake of asking if they can get me anything else, and... I ask for chocolate...

And it magically appears. (Presumably from their crew meal  Bring back the BOB-main-cabin toblerone I say!)
