Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Thought it might be interesting to note that QF are also serving Lamb Shank on PER/BNE (Sunday). Went to find the photo and I forgot to take one :o

Don't know as I didn't have the VA Lamp Shank...whilst the QF one was good - the meat fell off the bone with a little fork action.

So which is better - The NP lamb shank, or the LM lamb shank?
SWMBO reports the LM lamb shanks was very good:

The QF Lamb Shank had a lot more meat than To Market To Markets' Lamb Shank - but the VA one looks better presented and plated.

I had the lamb shank for lunch on the VA Syd-Per flight yesterday...the meat melted in your mouth; would have loved a bit more tho. My pictures are below:

The entree wasn't too bad either:p

Lamb shanks being served trans-con. Looked good. Didnt have so cant vouch for flavour. Smell and look indicated they'd be pretty darn good!

The Green Curry (vegetarian) was excellent too. Yes, I ordered a vegetarian meal. And liked it. I'm still in shock!

17.25 Canberra to Brisbane. Snack flight only, choice of cheese plate, chicken sandwich or VERY SMALL cold noodle or salad dish and a meringue cake. Butter given, no bread roll!!! very inadequate, unpolished service, only wine and water offered, not tea or coffee either. Will not pay for Virgin business flights - much less value than Qantas

I have some J flights up-coming as part of a status-run; includes a MEL->PER and PER->SYD flight. Will have to check out the shank if it's still on next month.

Evening snack: NTL-BNE. Cold chicken salad and that orange cake thing. Was surprisingly nice for a snack.

Dinner: BNE-MEL. Salmon with potato, and asparagus and caper garnish. Salmon cooked nicely, possibly poached before reheating on board. Then back to the default bowl of warm green and Luke's nuts. Followed by copious amounts of tea.

20130601_124859.jpg20130601_084002.jpg20130601_162327.jpgFirstly sorry for the big pics and for them being slightly out of order. I'm not very good at uploading stuff. I did a status run with the award flights earning SCs today. Got my 140 SCs needed to requalify for gold so am pretty happy.First flight was MEL-SYD 8am. The 2nd pic was the breakfast I had. I had half eaten it by the time I got to take a pic as it took 30 mins for the seatbelt sign to go off because it was pretty rough climbing out of MEL this morning. Was a spinach omelette, croissant and fruit. The omelette was nice, but the fruit was outstanding - fresh and crisp. Cabin service 7/10. 4/8 in J. The next flight was SYD-OOL a lunch service. The 1st pic is the lunch, a braised beef dish which was quite nice although the beef was a little tough. Nice cab sav to go with it. 4/8 in J. Cabin Service 8/10. The last flight was OOL-MEL a snack service. This is the 3rd pic. Outstanding and probably the best meal of the lot. A focaccia with eggplant and cheese. Probably a bit too much eggplant but it was very good for a 'snack'. 2/8 in J and the CSM insisted I try the chicken salad snack but I couldn't. I was stuffed. Overall, excellent food and outstanding service. 9/10 for service. Nothing was too much trouble. Well done VA. Looking forward to 12 more months of gold. (apologies for the breakfast pic. It didn't work very well.)

 I flew in Y yesterday BNE/SYD/BNE and on a Saver fare - no meal :o. Chastised myself for not spending more of my points. Felt weird sitting in 3D both sectors.

Back to normal programming Thursday with a J BNE/ADL/BNE - breakfast and dinner shots to come.

Two flights yesterday, both booked under 24hrs.

First was a Saver (surprising that short dated), yet onboard (after apparently some diversions) plane did not have a spare seat in Y. Business 0/8.... so no upgrades.
Mind you first two rows in an older plane with LiveTV were offered tablets.

Second was an Upgraded Flexi. Business 4/8.
Had the recent favourite of the Salmon with Potato and Asparagus (although less asparagus than other photos). Very good. Other choice was Bertolli Beans.
Cabin service was horrible... Two Y pax (I suspect VA staffers in plane clothes) came through the cord and spent half the flight chatting to the head FA. No top-ups offered.

VA really doesn't like upgrading people - guess they're trying to maintain the value of J. Except when the FA lets their friends come up from the back of Y after takeoff and sit in rows 3 and 2. (Yes, I sent in feedback).

Sometimes you can get an FA that doesn't want to be there. When that happens we just keep pressing the bell to ask for something. However on my last flight the FA was all over me like a rash - and duly complimented.
