Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Missus just got off an E190 BNE-ADL dinner service and got Soup + Salad starter followed by Main. I've never had soup on anything shorter then a 3hr before.....She said it was pretty nice........

Will be flying J PER-DRW on VA1433 departing 08:15. Will I be served breakfast or a morning snack? Or should I eat in the lounge before boarding.....

I take this flight pretty regularly, is breakfast ~70% of the time, the other 30% is a morning snack. Yes, stupid, I know :P

Flight: VA776
Depart: 0945 CNS
Arrive: 1150 BNE
Aircraft: E90
Load: 4/6
Meal Type: Lunch
CSM: Vanessa
Comments: I would have preferred breakfast or a morning snack as curry is hard to eat at 10am. CSM was friendly and efficient. Pre departure drink of orange juice or water offered no mock tail loaded as AM flight but serving lunch? Chicken was pink inside and had a bone didn't eat it an rice was extremely crispy however the sauce was delicious. Only one other pax ate. Love the EJET!

Short Ribs + Polenta as a lunchtime meal (onion anyone?) - not too bad. Would have preferred the ice cream over the cake though ;)

Date: Monday 17 June

Flight: VA 304

Depart: 05:55 BNE

Arrive: 08:20 MEL

Aircraft: 737-800

Load: 4/8

Meal Type: Breakfast

CS: can't recall :o (male)

Comments: FA offered pre-departure OJ/water and hung my coat. Selection was Bircher Muesli or Bacon & Feta Omelette - time for a hot meal after having fruit & yogurt in The Lounge. Good service & flight on time.

Flight: VA 347

Depart: 18:00 MEL

Arrive: 20:10 BNE

Aircraft: 737-800

Load: 2/8

Meal Type: Dinner

CS: Janelle

Comments: FA offered pre-departure Mocktail/water and hung my coat. Spinach, Pine Nut & Feta ravioli (don't recall the other selection). Upon arrival at The Lounge (17:20) I had requested to use Fly Ahead, as I was on the 20:00 service. I ate a quick dish of fried rice as I was told by Elker at the Service Desk that I'd be "Catering Not Assured". No such trouble when onboard - "plenty of meals packed" I was told by Janelle. Great service & flight on time (would have been early but slowed by ATC).

Has the A330 PER-BNE J meal yesterday - entrée was some prawn thing - but the salad it was not as advised - it has preserved lemons rather than almonds - YUK. Wasn't the only one who gave some feedback.

Main of duck and mushroom ragu was nice (not great) but was served 'luke' warm. Also not one glass was refilled - just taken away - had to keep pressing call but for a new glass (even for water) each time! (Crew were very friendly however the cabin was very light on with J pax)

Flight: VA375
Depart: 1415 BNE
Arrive: 1620 TSV
Aircraft: 73H
Load: 5/8
Meal Type: Afternoon Snack?
CSM: Lara?
Comments: Nice meal over all perfect quantity for time of day, would have been nice for pie to be out of foil case. CSM was worst I HVE had high pitched laugh was all that was heard the whole flight. She missed two announcements and was rarely seen had a coughy attitude about her.

Flight: VA382
Depart: 1700 TSV
Arrive: 1845 BNE
Aircraft: 73H
Load: 6/8
Meal Type: Afternoon Snack
CSM: Laura? Could someone confirm this as I would love to send feedback!
Comments: a lot of people complain about the cheese plate but I really enjoyed it and the ice team was to die for and really topped it off! CSM was the best I have ever had chatted to the pax was friendly professional and efficient and has the right balance of those three which is important. Spent and hour in the galley chatting to her she was so friendly and a pleasure to talk to. She seems to be a favourite as she recognised a few pax by name and made comments like 2 times in a week etc and they really enjoyed that. Defiantly sending feedback! Fabulous job virgin.

Flight: VA797
Depart: 1945 BNE
Arrive: 2215 CNS
Aircraft: E90
Load: 1/6
Meal Type: Dinner
CSM: Tim
Comments: Great service they really need ovens upfront on the EJEt Tim was very professional and a friendly was always checking on me. Food was great but salad was a waste. I think that dinner and lunch should come under one heading like C2C with desert, bread main two hot and one cold salad option? My two cents. He also agreed that cairns to Melbourne and Sydney should be business long!!

Pre departure mock tail or water in all flights and had Pringles on all and Pringles and Malteasers was given without asking on last flight which was nice to nible on while watching a movie!

This was surely a mistake - they don't serve lunch on 737 or E190 flights that depart (and especially do not arrive!) before 12. I would be lodging a complaint and asking for compensation.

Unfortunately this isn't correct. I've been served lunch prior to midday on a number of 737 flights, the most recent being a 0930 MEL-CNS (was served the baked salmon dish that's been going around).

Edit: this particular flight arrived at 1300 so that was presumably a factor.

But how do they justify a flight that departs and arrives before noon? If a CSM asked me if I would like a curry at 10am I would ask 'would you eat a curry at 10am?!'

I would still be sending feedback if you're unhappy with the timing.

I think with 3 hour + non-330 flights such as MEL-CNS and MEL-DRW and PER-DRW, given the length of the flight I would be serving an appropriate full meal after take-off (in the example of MEL-CNS a breakfast), and then a light snack towards the end of the flight. If they expect $1000 per ticket they should expect pax will want to eat appropriate food for the time of the flight.

It's hard to disagree with any of that. In the MEL-CNS example the CS apologised early on that all he could offer me was soup and the salmon and that he was happy to prepare it later in the flight, rather than me having to get stuck into a piece of salmon at 10am...

I agree that the breakfast service followed by a light snack at around 1200 would have been more suitable.

Current C2C menu (15 June) below for anyone that's interested. Will post some pics from my PER-MEL flight tonight shortly.

I would (and have), although to be served it on a flight is slightly unusual.

Breakfast curry is also an amazing hangover cure!
