Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA999 SYD/BNE 12 April

The crowning flight of my three this weekend. Met at the door by the trilingual Pauline and CSM Guy. Only 2/8 in Business so was able to chat with Guy before, during and after service. When Guy advised the options I said (half jokingly) that I'd like to try both as they sounded good. He said that there was plenty loaded so he'd arrange for both.

First up: Beetroot, feta and almond salad; served with GMH 2013 Cab Sauv.

The perfect starter course, fresh and tasty. Loved it.

Mains: Spicy beef (Cornish pastie)

I can't recall what he announced this meal as being but it was warmed and definitely spicy (red beans, capsicum and ??). Went with the red wine again to help VA not cause too much wastage.

Final accompaniment was the tub of ice cream - yummo.

When he returned to add my second plate he asked if I could possibly fit anymore in. I said I'd give the Pantry a go as I loved the Choc caramel popcorn. He asked whether I wanted it in the ramekin or in the bag - I declined the ramekin as I thought I might take home for my kids and wife.

My GF and I had the same meals in the NTL-MEL flight yesterday - We found them to be pretty tasty and filling!

Initially though we were back to only a side-salad when the meal was delivered... but after eating the great CSM produced the ice-cream on separate plates which I thought was great service, along with fresh-drinks.

Very please to see that deserts are now being included with the meals :)

Also please to finally be on a flight with the pantry loaded, although I did have to ask for the menu.

I was SYD-BNE last night. The Barramundi was excellent, as was the Mandarin cake. Enjoyed the Merlot dressing on the salad as well. Could have done with a second glass of wine but it was only a 1:05 flight I guess

Were these snack flights? I haven't been getting dessert on snack flights lately, just the bowl of leaves.

My flights were 10.00am BNE/ADL, then 6.30pm ADL/SYD and 9.45pm SYD/BNE - so only the first flight was a snack flight.

stark told me today that on his flight ADL/BNE on Sunday he had similar options to me.

I had the wholesome meal of a glass of sparkling water on VA584 today... No Pantry was offered and couldn't eat the main meal..

Oh Well, It was a fly ahead so I guess thats to blame.

This was SYD-ADL same weekend dates as QF WP

Barramundi as described previously. Poor presentation and very grey looking bit of fish. Didn't eat it. CSM noticed this so offered me the alternate meal but I declined and settled for cheese and biscuits and Choc Caramel popcorn instead

Sweet corn fritters with bacon. Was quite good.

Fantastic Vegetarian Plate on today's VA837 MEL-SYD. (I say fantastic because as a vego its rare I ever even get an option..)

The highlight was the cake though, I've never had this one before and it was amazing ( and i'm not usually a sweets kinda guy)
I wish they sold them at Costco... I'd buy in bulk

That's odd... on every flight I've done in VA J (in the last 12 months at least), there is always a non-meat option.... Or do you mean something more specific...?

The last 4 J flights I've had, no Vego options.. Before that it was never an issue. Maybe just my bad luck (hopefully ending)
And nothing fancy, just normal non meat.

Has anyone flown VA1457 MEL-DRW as of recent, and if so, what was the meal offering like for breakfast -- and what time was breakfast served?? The flight departure time is 1.45am with arrival at 5.50am.

VA1384 BNE/ADL 27 August 6:10am

I was the only one in J, so had the CSM Lara all to myself. She recognised me straight away (amazing as I haven't been to ADL since 11 April) - perhaps we were on the same flight. Also had Greig (from Scotland) welcoming me at door. Was in an Embraer 190 so changed from 2A to 2C so I could spread out. Breakfast option was Muesli or Gruyere cheese, bacon and egg toasted sandwich which was really tasty

Syd>Darwin, Braised Beef with roasted pumpkin (other option was some sort of curry). Hubby did some serious damage to the snacks/pantry.

Darwin>Sydney, Barramundi (other option was something with polenta)
As there was some avocado hidden in the dish, hubby happily ate mine as well and the FA brought me chicken finger sandwiches and cheese and crackers.

I will say the raspberry brownie ROCKS! Got a second one on the Syd>DRW flight.

An absolute first world problem but the last 3 flights in J have had the same meal options - arancini balls or chicken tagine. Just a little annoying as I don't fly J very often and really look forward to the meal service. The arancini balls are pretty bland but the chicken tagine was beautifully presented and pretty tasty too. CSM did an awesome job with 8/8 on an hour's flight.

Also, off topic and doesn't warrant its own thread but what's with the new safety demo audio sounding like it's recorded with a $2 microphone? For some reason they've added a weird reverb effect which makes it sound tinny/annoying. Thought it was the aircraft at first but have flown 4 sectors in a week and they all sound the same.
