Current Menu from 14/9 and 19/9 on a PER-MEL-PER.

This is the "pumpkin soup with curry spice, almonds and coriander" - missed the mark a bit here I think.

When I am flying Coast to Coast at 6.30am I just want to sleep.. A flat bed means way more to me than food and for that reason I am back flying VA :)

VA1438
Darwin-Perth
737-700
Departure: 16th April at 5:30PM

The following is pictured above:
- Cucumber Salad with grated swiss cheese and olive oil - It was bland and tasteless. Also I can't remember time where cucumber was as rubbery as that.
- Steamed Barramundi with the skin on with a terrayki sauce and steamed white rice - This was an amazing dish. The fish was flaky but moist, the sauce was the perfect accompaniment and there was enough of it to get through the rice as well.
- Lemon Myrtle and Vanilla cake - Great taste, just wish there was more of it

Only sad part of the entire service was that no proactive refills were offered on my beverage selection. Or if they ran out, could they have offered an alternative. But overall the service was great and the food was very reasonable.

Isn't it zhucchini rather than cucumber with the parmersan in the bowl? I are mine and my conclusion it was zchuchinni.
Had that with the (3 types) cheese tasting plate VA ADL - MEL 16.05 dep resheshment.
Plus 6 seedless grapes and a garlic butter bread mini roll.

The seeds look more like zucchini

Its what the flight attendant said. But I'm certainly no vegetable expert either. Could have been zucchini. Regardless, it was bland and very rubbery.

It's zucchini and Parmesan and I agree it's pretty awful.
Mind you the coleslaw type salad that's also on rotation now is equally as bad and tastes nothing like a half decent coleslaw.

Interesting not to see one of the mainstay cheeses of a long time on the menu, the Roaring Forties from King Island, Tasmania.

I hate to say it, but that looks like the soup has come straight out of a can!

There's certainly more than pumpkin in that soup, let alone where are the almonds...

Virgin passionfruit roulade, you light up my life.

so lickable, so sugary, so radioactive orange, you colour co-ordinate with the soup

The lovely Laura on the coast to coast last night fed me 3 of them

But I slept nought last night and felt like a steamroller ran over me this morning

Perhaps that's why

Agreed. I am a fan of the VA roulade and normally try to get two serves if available. They have a few versions, so you need to have a go at all of them.

Flew ADL-PER 1800 dep. 6/8 pax.
Offered a pre dinner drink with olives and almonds, never been offered that before on the last 6 dinner services I have flown !
Gladly accepted and had a glass of pikes red with it .
Main meal there was no choice , duck curry and that's it . I noticed the lady opposite me doesn't like duck so they offered her a cheese plate. I think that was pretty bad not to have option. Every time i do this flight there is always two options ...
The duck curry was really nice , boneless , packed a lot of heat and nice flavours! The side of cold hard beans were disgusting .
A hour later offers pantry items or a cheese platter, took the latter and was nice , love that quince paste .
I think there is defiantly some inconsistency in virgins service .

VA467 PER-BNE in J this morning, unfortunately a downgrade from A330 to 737. A full boat in J.

Prawn and corn salsa or pumpkin soup for entree, the duck curry or spinach and fetta pie for main and brownie for dessert. All topped of with a reasonable Shiraz. I have had all of these choices previously.

Another good effort overall from a food point of view but the service on the 737 is far more 'awkward' than on the A330. Hopefully no more downgrades will occur in the near future as 737 J is a waste of points/coin......

PER-BNE is a regular for me at the moment. I save those platinum J upgrades for the longer flight back and work my returns around catching the single A330 flight a day. I'd be devastated if the plane was downgraded...

VA567 SYD-PER yesterday.

tmp_32567-20160425_193244298008508.jpgtmp_32567-20160425_1929191868117801.jpgtmp_32567-20160425_201504-109798494.jpg

The fish main will not upload for some reason. Reasonable quality pies were available in the SYD lounge beforehand.

Will be giving QF A330 J a go next flight to BNE. A high target to meet....

I have to say the VA service in J has been getting more consistent (for the better) over the past few flights. Things like being offered an amenity kit, items from the pantry, being addressed by name (like QF) etc have been far more evident this year.
