Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA697 MEL/PER 10 May

For starters I had the prawns, they were delicious and could have eaten it again for mains - started with the Kapuka Pinot Noir:

For mains, the ocean trout was off the menu as highlighted above by another poster, but lucky there were only 4 in the cabin. Chose the red curry duck and thankfully segregated the chilli before I ate too many...otherwise it was quite tasty and went well with some more Pinot.

Then the cheese platter for dessert (should have some dessert wine but thought I'd help polish off the remnants of the Pinot bottle):

I was fortunate to have the same crew BNE/MEL and MEL/PER, so got great service when they saw me re-board. Plus was only in whY on the first sector, so had got the standard service back in the main cabin.

This time, they actually had crossed off the Trout on all menus, but there were 6/8 in Business this time.

This time remembered to get a shot of my wine (which I shared with my fellow seat mate in 2C)

Chose the Spanish Tomato Soup for starters (although I'd call it a gazpacho):

and the zucchini quiche for dinner (have previously found the pork belly to be too fatty). My dissertation changed my seat mates choice as well. This was the meal of the trip for me.

Ended again with the cheese platter:

Had a delightful CSS Ciara (originally from Ireland, now Perth based crew) who we kept entertained and my seat mate and I found so much in common that we only stopped talking to allow him to finish off a movie and the last two Supergirl episodes for me.

Based on my last 6 sectors the ill-conceived trial of no choices for J meals appears to have ended. Hooray !!!
NTL-BNE Snack
Choice of Empanada or Dips

As posted elsewhere I didn't really get the chance to relax and enjoy this but it was a really good dish.
The Business MEL-PER. Incorrect menus loaded so crew read out choices.
Entree Soup (I think the other choice was prawns)
01463983674.jpg
Main
Lamb with Gnocchi (other choice was Barra or Veggie Lasagne)

Cheese Plate

Breakfast (Again no menus, crew read out choices)

I so want to souvenir these salt and pepper shakers every time I see them !!
Fruit/Yogurt
01463984007.jpg
Hot option was omelette with spinach, bacon and goats curd served with tomato relish. Other choices were Bircher Muesli and pancakes (I think)

Lunch MEL-NTL. Choice of Minestrone Soup plus/minus Chicken or the Lamb Gnocchi dish, identical to that served on MEL-PER. Chose the soup

So........would it be too cras if I said they remind me of two dogs humping????

BTW, I cannot remember the last J menu I received.......but that is likely a CNS thing.

I never expect or receive menus on any flights except Trans-cons. I was pretty surprised that there was none on either of those.

Oooh, my next J flight is MEL - CNS- I just hope there's choice! Any insight?

and, I would love the salt & pepper shakers too! Maybe they should sell them to add to the kitty?!

Yes on a 'supper/snack' VA mel-ool 8.10pm recently the choice was lamb empanadas or trio of dips with flat bread. As mentioned above. So it seems there was probably a lot of complaints about catering and a choice has been restored.

Interestingly on qf ool-syd at 4pm 2 days later it was a full hot dinner service with 2 choices.

Totally get you with the "humping" lol and yes I always wondered if there was any chance of a pair following me home ;)
did some flights recently, will update with some pics when I find them, flew perth - cairns via somewhere brissy maybe?? Gah! Can't remember, will have to look at my itin, am loving the new seats though, awesome storage too

VA517 SYD to OOL on 19/5. Options were zucchini and bacon quiche which my partner chose. I opted for the smoked salmon and egg salad. Was tasty, I enjoyed it.

VA524 OOL to SYD on 24/5. The options were tomato soup with or without chicken, or lamb shank with gnocchi which is what both my partner and I chose. It was perhaps a tad too salty but very tasty. The gnocchi were a little too dense but edible.

Call it severe pedantry, but isn't there something rather odd about serving the yoghurt still in its container, and yet also in a bowl? If it was ice cream or sorbet (like they did several times before), I could probably understand......

That gnocchi looks like you can take it to the driving range and belt it with a club a few hundred yards. :) Then again, gnocchi is always hard to cater for correctly - sometimes you just hope that it really isn't a golf ball. At least, as you said, it tastes good.

Some rather interesting catering options appearing on the menu for VA.

I had the lamb shank today and really enjoyed it. Think mine was pre plated as not as precise as that. My gnocchi was nice and soft.

Suggested pimping of the meal - take the feta from the blah carrots and add to the lamb!

ETA menu choice was the lamb or minestrone soup with option to add chicken.

I so want to souvenir these salt and pepper shakers every time I see them !!

I flew SYD-PER earlier this year in J and after asking politely for a set was happily obliged! (I'm sure it's a lucky dip with the crew you get though, I only asked after the CSM insisted on making me a 'chocolate tasting plate' and seemed super eager to please!) 13262496_1012788958757204_456625289_o.jpg

A chocolate tasting plate? I'd have LOVED to have been offered one of those!!!!
