For the southeast corner $299 J fares, they seem to be available when less than five of the eight J seats are sold, the fourth seat ticks up to about $350. When half the cabin is sold. the 5/6th seats go for about $550. When around 2 seats are left, you see the $768 fares - not a science, just my observations.You clearly need to get out more.
This is for tomorrow, SYD-ADL my post was about - $769. Many routes will be higher I am sure.
My point remains .. offering someone paying this, a single meal they are not fond of is not wise.

The new owners also own Betty's Burgers and Concrete Co. I've been waiting for my burger for some time but then I could imagine how horrific such a meal would be reheated in an aircraft oven.IMO the new owners of Virgin Australia actually have the diverse corporate synergy which enables them to creatively & successfully; deconstruct, reconstruct or even de-shell Mexican food, and present it in a more; sophisticated, healthy, and in-flight friendly way.

VA would do it deconstructed… the buns are handed to you from a wire basket by the FA…If UA can serve (what I've read) is a very good cheeseburger then VA probably could too. They'd have to assemble with fresh buns but that's doable.

Therefore the closer to flight date, the likely higher the fare as less J seats left. When I pick up $299 fares and if I try to change closer to the travel date, I hit the fares differences. ADL - SYD is a case in point as VA doesn't have a lot of flights on the sector right now

It would be great if was done by status level - realising that J could be full of platsI know there was mention of this before when it comes to which row is served first. Now days I select row 1 so I dont miss out on a choice of what is available.
But sundays flight my partner and I where in row 2 due to the 9am flight being cancelled a month earlier. Surprisingly when it came to getting the orders we where asked first. Not sure why but put it down to both being platinum. But then on the way home I was in economy and noticed they served row 2 first again. If it is quiet next time I will ask if the opportunity arises.
I was served first in 2A on LST-BNE in Dec, was the only Platinum in J that day – they definitely have that info with them. The only other time I’ve been served first in Row 2 was on an ADL-SYD flight in 2F, where the seat beside me was empty so she served me first.The only time I have seen row 2 served first was when there was a "The Club" member in 2D.
Have some travel next week, have selected Row 1 as usual but will observe.
