MEL - SYD mid afternoon last week - The chicken salad.

BNK-SYD - This is the pearl cous cous salad with prosciutto which was the only meal option. It's a short flight so I can understand why there isn't a hot option.

I actually think both these dishes are very good. Virgin trying not to overcomplicate plane food.

I've flown a-lot in the past 10 days and have always had a good experience. A few cancelled flights but for the most part not too bad - an hour or two extra at airports. PDB each time and they've policed priority boarding and the business class rope! I was on that thing with the yellow seats again - that didn't have the divider of course but they still sent Y customers to the back of the plane!
These both look pretty similar to the QF counterparts. The chicken salad and the prosciutto salad

Mate of ours yesterday 2pm departure MEL SYD. A Chicken Burger, he said it was a thigh covered in peri peri sauce. Rather unpleasant.

Flew VA314 BNE-MEL on Saturday morning (07:55 departure). Business was 8/8.
Had the croque monsieur (which was a bit average. Other option was a waffle with caramel sauce and cream), an ok Danish and a few mimosas. It was fine but could’ve been better (needed more ham and cheese).

Flew VA347 MEL-BNE this evening (18:10 departure). Business was 5/8. Had the chicken with mushroom sauce, mashed potato and beans. Other option was gnocchi (also with a mushroom sauce I think) and Parmesan.

When it arrived and I tasted it I wished that I had the gnocchi but it ended up being delicious (would’ve been even better with a bread roll). Also had a bottle of the Banrock Station Pinot Grigio (from the slimline recycled bottle, which the CM was not a fan of) which was quite nice. Managed to get some snack too. Overall a pleasant meal and comfortable flight.

Overall it's a fail from me. The bun is too sugary, the chicken pieces are unappealing off-cuts, and the fact that it is only chicken (served lopped to one side) and sauce inside doesn't make it substantial enough of a meal for me.

On a HBA-SYD flight the other day and the CSM was asking for passenger feedback as they had a new caterer. From what I could hear the general consensus was negative from most of the cabin.

That looks very ordinary.

@dk4, was that on the MEL-SYD route?

I can confirm…. the chicken in mustard cream sauce is delicious (looks terrible), the croque monsieur was sensational!!! (think 1 metre of cheese stretching between the two halves as you separate them), and finally PDB champagne… not offered on my breakfast flight but the purser said ‘of course we have champagne, is that the reason you didn’t take a drink just now?’ I nodded and he replied ‘I can fix that!’. so seems depending on the crew you can ask for sparkling pre departure if not offered.

Sugar buns no good option, brioche just terrible if that's what it is. Sugar some may like, but I can't stand it.
Better bun & better piece of chicken, yes lettuce price high atm, but just a leaf required, this tomato slice, doesn't even need to be truss tomatoes.

My croque was very ordinary, but I’d rather that over the waffle.
