Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA820 SYD-MEL. Can't remember what the other option was but I had the egg with dukkah on toasted ciabatta. It was alright but turbulence had good timing and hit right as meal service started, so no one could eat for a few minutes as they were trying to stop their drinks from spilling everywhere (my sparkling wine became too bubbly and spilled over whoops)

Also got given snacks such as chips and Tim Tam Fingers after. Not sure if new Business Class offering or to recover from the strong turbulence.

If you got the snacks unprompted it was probably to recover from the turbulence! But 'The Pantry' has been around for years and you can ask for snacks like that at any time.

Interestingly, on my MEL-CBR flight the other evening, I think every other passenger in the full J cabin asked for snacks instead of a meal. They were presented with chips, kit kats/tim tams, nuts, cheese & crackers etc. in a ceramic bowl.

The meal orders were also taken from 2F to 1A (i.e. backwards). There didn't seem to be any obvious reason for this.

Probably just being nice than a turbulence recovery.

Most prefer a snack with a drink as they've eaten in the lounge so don't want to indulge in another meal onboard. Different story for first time upgraders though 😂

Yeah, I can totally understand that :)

I personally always take the meal if I'm even a little hungry because I really don't like sugary "ambient" snacks and would much prefer something fresh/nutritious.

VA867 MEL-SYD: mustard chicken or gnocchi with mushrooms. The vegetarian option seemed to be the more popular option as by the time the CM took my order in 2A, it was the last one left (I wasn't in a chicken mood so took the gnocchi after the CM checked that 2D and 2F were OK with chicken as I was happy to swap if required). Unlike my very bumpy flight from Thursday, the flight was very smooth with only one bump and no snacks were offered post meal, however the passenger next to me did get a sizable cookie to go with their coffee during meal service.

Has anyone on an upgrade or reward ticket in Business found they've been served last, no matter where they sit, and as a Platinum? Happened to me twice earlier this year. I still got my first choice so it's all good, but I'm curious whether there is a deliberate shift in the service flow.

Nope, never noticed this.

I'm Gold and not on my recent flights to Melbourne return. I bought the $69 Choice tickets, then used 20K points to upgrade to Business both legs. I was served first in 1A SYD-MEL and in order of seating in 2A MEL-SYD.

no, not to me.

Something new from the refreshed menu on my dinner flight from SYD to MEL last Wednesday - Thai chicken green curry served with Chinese bok choy and steamed rice.

The curry was full of flavour with a hint with chilli and went well with the rice. Only complaint was that there was not a lot of sauce (on mine at least) but not a big deal. Accompaniments were the (usual) cheese and crackers plus chocolates.

Had a reasonable Chardonnay with the meal and the sparkling for PDB (although the CSM described this as Champagne to those behind me for some reason).

MEL-SYD this morning 1100 departure. PDB offered. Service pattern (for those playing at home) was 1F, 1D, 2F, 2D, 2C, 2A, 1A, 1C so go figure! 🤣

Offered either the grain salad with the chicken and Asian dressing or the vegetable tart with mash - which was really tasty (but the extra five minutes in the oven to try and make it crispy didn't really achieve that).

Not particularly proactive service, but not the worst I've had. The rope was not enforced.

Did a funny little holding pattern around Canberra but still arrived within three minutes of the arrival time.

Back tomorrow on a slightly earlier flight and hoping for some brekky options to try.

The cabin lighting makes your meal glow 😍 What I think is crushed nuts (peanuts?) looks like nuggets of gold 😍

Does anyone else (other than me) think this meal should be served with chopsticks? and in a different bowl, rather than a plate? Swap the plate out with two rice bowls? To sort of keep with the theme of an Asian/Oriental meal?

Chopsticks are not commonly used in Thailand/Thai culture. Fork & spoon far more common, especially for curries.
