Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

The short flights recently, MEL-ADL, on one day ADL-MEL and MEL-HBA coming back.

All very similar - sparkling, or water PDB; also OJ one time, also a top-up one time when door close was delayed a bit.

I can't remember the choices but I had Ruben sandwich on the first leg - nice, as before, with zingy sauerkraut topping; nothing the second and the cauliflower and couscous as a light dinner coming into Hobart.

White choices were pinot grigio all sectors, a chardonnay I think on two of them. Pinot grigio all sectors for me - OK, but not my favourite white.

I can see why those who fly J a lot might get a bit jaded with the choices; I'm getting up there with my current schedule (and of course connecting rather than flying direct :) ). But as long as the repetitive tucker is nice, not blah, I can live with it

Happy Christmas in July. I completely forgot until they said it on VA516 OOL-SYD this morning. Wonder of wonders, there was a menu change. The pumpkin and risoni salad was still an option but there was also the offer of roast turkey with vegetables and gravy which I took. The cheese and crackers and heart chocolate are also away today, it was a gingerbread Christmas tree and a gold star shaped chocolate instead.

SYD lounge is also doing Christmas in July. There is a very peppery split pea soup, some sort of pasta that I didn't look at and also roast turkey rolls with plenty of cranberry sauce. The sandwiches are chicken and lettuce (I think) and the salad bar has sliced ham. There are also a few different cakes and biscuits with a Christmas theme.

Same in ADL lounge today with the soup, turkey rolls, mulled wine and some other Christmas themed foods. Soup is indeed peppery but was a good light meal option for me. No business today, am waiting for the increasing delayed Alliance operated Fokker flight to BNE ….

Oh, yes, mulled wine… I saw that as well. Currently on the tarmac on VA525, we’re waiting for a delayed crew member. Same menu in reverse of course but the CM has done orders and offered a second PDB so meal service should be quick.

No wifi on the plane today either so there’s some grumpy looking people before the doors are even closed.

BNE - DRW
PDB - water only
Pre- lunch drink and snacks offered.
Lunch served at about 11.30am.
Choices were the chicken parmigiana or spinach and ricotta ravioli. I opted for the ravioli. It was okay but sadly very bland and also hadn’t been heated enough.
One top up of wine when the lunch tray was cleared. After that the crew disappeared. No pantry offers

VA824 SYD-MEL

Corn fritters or eggs on toast; was more like eggs on flatbread 🙃

Orders taken: 1F, 1D, 1C, 1A, 2A aka me, 2C was sleeping, 2D, 2F
Orders served: 1A, 1C, 1D, 1F (no meal, just beverages), 2D, 2F (snack), 2A

Can't attach photo for some reason on both my laptop and my mobile. I opted for the eggs on toast as I was more in an eggs mood than a corn mood, having consumed both in the Sydney lounger earlier (is bacon no longer a thing??????????)

I can’t remember the last time I saw much of anything decent food wise in a VA lounge, especially the big ones like Melbourne.
Agree! In terms of hot food. It comes down to economics I guess. Hundreds of people to feed as cheaply as possible.

Yet… they spend how many hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on baristas?

However… health-food wise, the food offering is pretty good. Plenty of salads and ‘unprocessed’ food options.

And the sarnies are pretty good!

peri peri chicken? Is that the one in the sandwich? Alas only once.

I’m not even sure they need to change the menu… just rotate it beyond the check parmi or green curry on the SYD- MEL route :(
Yes, that’s the one.
Had a great one on MEL-ADL recently, just the right amount of cheese to chicken ratio and a nice kick to it

Conversely, the chicken sandwich is the one I get all the time on that route. The bottom is soaked in oil by the time it is served (which is probably why it tastes so good), so I have to turn it over, to pick it up and eat it (I refuse to use a knife and fork to eat a sandwich 😖).

This is the “skinless chicken sausage” I had a while back in the VA lounge MEL. It was sort of an oatmeal thing!
