Little did I know that alcoholic beverages were also available, but one has to ask … not that I’d have had anything alcoholic at 0700 in the morning, but I was on a short leisure trip to MEL and wouldn’t have said no to some champers or mimosas…

The CM Kurt was really good. He was assisted by FA Brooke, who helped with boarding and later went to work at the back.

Good flight overall.
I love a few mimosas on those early morning flights.

Orders taken 1ACDF, 2ACDF and served in same order
This seem to be the norm these days ... I'm sure someone mentioned this earlier in this thread, but it used to based on Status ... OR that's how I saw it ... as WP, orders used to be taken & delivered first before the rest of the cabin (goes without saying if there is a Beyond or all pax were WP, then it will be different)

VA247 CBR-MEL last minute J booking (booked the tickets after getting into Uber to the airport - that last minute)

PDB : Started off with sparking

Main: zucchini, beet root, barley and rocket salad with grain mustard dressing. Vegan chocolate, crackers and cheese served with a tall serving of PN.

Enjoyed the salad. Really good. I was super hungry too. Did not have brekkie or lunch as I was in a day long assessment. So cleaned the plates, so to speak. Was still hungry, so asked for a bag of chips 😂

CM Russ and FA Rachel - absolute rockstars. Very attentive and welcoming. Mucho appreciated :)

Side note : it was such a coincidence - I was watching the episode of Friends where Rachel dates Russ, who looks like Ross. And I boarded the plane and I noticed that the names of CM and FA was Russ and Rachel :-)

It depends on the cabin manager. I’ve definitely seen both ways over the last few weeks.

The one without the FCNA?
Did not worry much about FCNA because I did not order a special meal … I was following the posts here and realised that there is a 80% chance that there will be something *strict* vego (without eggs even) in J … so took the odds … if no *strict* vego option available, I was going to take a few packets of chips and eat at the MEL lounge on arrival.

Had the beef brisket and rice on a late arvo SYD-MEL flight. Only criticism is that it could have had a bit more beef (mine seemed to be half mushroom) . Other than that, a fantastic meal and I'd say it is miles ahead of QF business catering!

Crew especially attentive as well with PDB and tops ups offered several times. Will report back on my return flight tomorrow too.

Agree. Tasty enough but not nearly enough for a flight of over 4 hours (last night's MEL to PER).

Kung Pao chicken rotation out of SYD this afternoon. Orders taken based on status, but served 1A->F then 2A->F. Tasty meal, but at best an ‘interpretation’ of the original. But then so is QF’s. QF prolly wins.

PDB offered but sparkling water was only permitted after departure.

There were two egg options, I couldn’t tell the difference but everything I had was tasty and satisfying. My eggs has bits of bacon in it, with some edamame beans, a side of fruit and yoghurt and a slice of cake.

22/12 VA274 CBR-MEL
PDB offered - water or sparkling wine

Options were either:
Roast chicken with buttermilk dressing salad
Roast beetroot with zucchini, orange and fennel mustard dressing (option to add chicken)
Cheese & crackers

Opted for the chicken and I gotta say you could have played squash with them instead. The rest of the dish was had a really nice flavour.

22/12 VA243 MEL-ADL
PDB offered - water, juice or sparkling wine

Options were either:
Chicken with rice and pita bread
Noodles with veggies on top with sausage
Snacks

So no idea what the actual dishes were called as that's how they were described word for word to us. I guess up to the imagination then. Opted for the noodles which I enjoyed, hint of sweetness, guessing maybe some kind of pumpkin sauce?

Seat mate had the chicken and it looked pretty good, like a middle eastern dish.

Plus the wifi works so able to post during the flight.

Pretty pleased with the new menu options, but kind of surprised that what seems to be the vegetarian options are now (modifiable?) to a meat option.

Also Merry Christmas to everyone!

My memory is that VA pre-covid always had salads that were a vegetarian options and could have an animal protein added, eg/ chicken, prosciutto etc.
Thanks, well you learn something new each day, that's not a bad way of doing things and being flexible in your offerings

VA558 PER-SYD 18 Dec

Creamed spinach gnocchi (vegetarian) with the option of bacon. I really enjoyed it.

My order was taken first in 2C, presumably as a Platinum, but served 6th as she served 1ACDF and 2ACDF in order.

The CSM mentioned she added extra bacon since only me and my seatmate in 2A was having it and mine was the second to be plated – I happily accepted.

As I was about to take a photo of it, the CSM came out again and said she just needed to add more garnish to it (the pine nuts on top). 😅

The chicken pita dish. It was quite tasty as well.
