Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Great service on this sector. The FA addressed me by name throughout the flight and even took my meal order first as I was the only Platinum member in J, even though I was in row 2.
Wonderful! and how it *should* be. Unfortunately many CMs don’t recognise status :( But ZL is worse… not only do they not recognise status, with 7/8 freee uogrades into the cabin I’ve been offered last choice! :(

MEL-OOL was the pork belly and rice

Also realised there was no water with the beer, I usually ask to top up the wine and water and or beer with water.

I wish they could find something instead of the cheese and biscuits, if you want to increase the price of business class show some effort.
The main meal has always been good but let down with a lack of sides.

Sadly no pic tonight but pretty poor effort on my BNE to MEL evening flight.

Options were butter chicken or a pasta. Meals took one hour to be delivered by which time the Y service has been conducted and trash collected. CM disappeared down the back after meals and was hardly seen.

VA236 ADL-MEL, 17:40 departure

Same choice as the other day of mustard chicken or the curry, which this time was described as a vegetable cashew korma with optional tandoori chicken. Went with the mustard chicken this time, which was nice enough.

Was only offered a noodle salad with chicken. Not sure if there was ever a second option but the FA said they didn’t have time to serve a hot meal due to the short flight time. In Y they only served water (as in, there was no trolley sale service) and the lights were off for pretty much the entire flight.

Anybody fly MEL-AYQ who has any experience to share? :)

This thread has my experience flying J on VA's inaugural MEL-AYQ service.

Mid morning flight OOL to SYD chose the quiche with bacon over the corn fritter option. Quite tasty and came with a very nice piece of carrot cake

This afternoons flight (same aircraft, different crew). Meal options were a chicken casserole (cant recall the correct name), with rice or vegetarian pasta with pesto and optional chorizo. Both were OK. I tasted Mrs LP's vego pasta, ( no photo provided) it was the pick of the two options. I'm sure it would have been even better with the chorizo option ;)

Thanks! I figured the inaugural one might be given some special treatment so wanted to see if anybody flew it at other times!

Cbr-Mel. Options were chicken and soba noodles, or chilled Tortellini ceaser salad with optional prosciutto.

I was served last as I upgraded in lounge.

I was wondering what the second option was supposed to be along with the chicken & soba noodles on this route! Wasn't offered the Caesar salad on my last flight, with the explanation being "no hot food as it's a short flight". (And no, I didn't get the last meal choice - it just wasn't offered to anyone.)

Corn fritters on SYD-BNE for breakfast this morning (had a tomato relish and some goats? cheese). Other option was a pork frittata thing I think.

Wifi was also rock solid with download speeds around 55mbps.

Korean Chicken with Aged rice....pretty average TBH. Other option was a pesto pasta dish with added chicken you wanted.

I was told that the Pasta was pretty good.

Order was taken before departure and after PDB - it arrived with my G&T and I was offered a top up proactively - was happy to open a bottle of red after the meal service despite no others drinking it.

Also to continue the cheese debate - the crackers served with the cheese are almost inedible...

Cheers

A bit disappointed to hear no special dietary meals in J, BNE-MEL even when advising ahead of time . Particularly a gluten free meal. How knowledgeable do you think the CSM is of ingredients?
I just spent over 30 minutes on the phone to three different people in their call centre before I found somebody who understood what a Coeliac is and finally advised me that they do not cater for gluten free meals in business class.

My wife says she will never fly Virgin again after this.
