SYD-MEL breakfast frittata. Quite underwhelming to be honest (the only other choice ran out before it go to me).
This looks like the perfect breakfast to me, but did it not taste nice?

Heading home to Sydney on the 8:25pm flight on a Sunday night, great way to maximise a weekend in Hobart! No lounge at HBA and even the QF lounge was closed for the evening so the terminal was super busy; they did have some live music though which was nice and somewhat unexpected.

Boarding commenced roughly on time and we were warmly greeted by FA Elle and CM Bec after making our way to the aircraft through the cold, wind and rain. The crew were turning around with the aircraft having just arrived from Sydney and they mentioned the bumpy approach they'd had into Hobart. Within minutes of being seated Bec came over to offer my choice of PDB, I went with a sparkling wine.

Before long we were taxiing and after what felt like a faster-than-usual takeoff we were on our way. Y was full but there were just three solo travellers in the J cabin tonight so Bec took the time to sit with each of us and walk through the menu. Options were chicken with grain mustard, potato and vegetables or creamy vegetable korma with rice and optional tandoori chicken. To be honest both sounded great but I went with the mustard chicken and a Bundy and Coke to drink. Orders were taken and delivered in the traditional order of 1A, 1F, 2A. Presumably everyone got their first choice!

Close up of the main.

Any doubts about whether I had chosen the right dish were put to rest straight away as the chicken was delicious! I feel this is one flight where I would have been happy with both options. Ideally would be nice if the mains were just a bit larger though.

Top ups were offered after the meal service, the first drink was a bit stronger than I like but the second one was perfect!

Service from Bec was excellent from start to finish, she addressed each passenger by name and was super personable and friendly.

We arrived on time and parked at one of the few gates at Sydney without a jet bridge but were quickly on our way. Very pleased overall and now thanks to triple status credits I'm just a few credits short of requalifying for WP!
Are those new, larger glasses or is it just the angle of the photo?

Nah, that's a fair point. I guess it's just not what I'd like for breakfast so this is more a complaint about only getting one option.

Evidently the other pax thought the same though and picked the other option 😉

First time on VA for a while. SYD-MEL-OOL.

Mid morning departure out of SYD and I was surprised it was a “Lunch” service. Main a choice of a Beef Quesadilla or Beef Targine (that could be vegetarian’ised - see below).

Went for the Quesadillas which was tasty and reasonable size for the time of day (already had some breakfast and I knew a further lunch was coming).

MEL-OOL had the identical menu, so went for the Targine. As you can see, the slow cooked beef is just in the side). Not the prettiest plating.

Now, that cheese needs to get replaced. I used to like VA cheese and crackers but the current offering should be labelled “Tasteless” cheese.

Edit: forgot to mention that on neither flight was I offered water, tea/coffee.

Also not sure what’s happening with posting pictures?
In flight ADL-OOL same menu offerings. We went with the vegetarian tagline with the optional beef. We both enjoyed the meal. Service was efficient, meals ordered/delivered in row/number order and drinks proactively topped up. Not sure about the RSA requirements (@twinaisle), no water was offered, we had to ask but I’m ok with that. Noted the “tasty” cheese was from NZ.

I had this dish today. It was also described to me as a tagline. I assumed it was a tagine.
It was just okay, but I didn’t really enjoy it and didn’t finish it.
The alternative was the beef quesadilla which I have had before. I would have the quesadilla in the future

The meal was described as a Tagine, unfortunately my iPhone autocorrected to Tagline, For whatever reason I could not edit the post via my iPhone. Might have something to do with the location/timing of inserting the photo ?
Always a risk posting via phones.

When I read your post initially I assumed that it was a typo, but today when the CM described it as a “tagline” I thought VA had come up with a new dish 😆

And you received the “RSA” glass of water to accompany your glass of wine 😉

I had to ask for it.
Ditto. I guess if it’s VA policy to serve water with an alcoholic beverage, I would suggest the policy is not always adhered to. That being said, I’m happy to ask for it , if it’s not offered in the first place

SYD-OOL mid-morning departure. A cheese and spinach pie with beans and chives and an almond slice on the side. It wasn't bad at all and a decent alternative to the bacon, eggs, sausages and sourdough. Water and juice offered too.

Agree. For years it was standard- there was always a glass of water on the tray and I was usually asked my preference for still or sparkling. However in recent months I have had to ask for. Not a big deal I’m happy to do so.

You want something in life you ask for it.

If you sit back and expect everything brought to you on a platter, you may live in a parallel universe <redacted>

J Cabin is a bigger seat and some food <redacted>

Though flying OOL-MEL over the weekend I asked for a Tim Tam from the pantry, only to be told that the pantry doesn't stock Tim Tams anymore! #shockhorror
They have Biscoff instead... and just one little biscuit in the plastic. Lots of rice cracker/soy cracker type options as well, didn't see the usual plain chips there the last few times so maybe they've gone as well?

15:15 departure

The meal choices were a quesadilla or a vegetarian poké bowl with rice and the option to add chicken. I had the latter with chicken and it was nice.

Great service on this sector. The FA addressed me by name throughout the flight and even took my meal order first as I was the only Platinum member in J, even though I was in row 2.

The choices were mustard chicken or a vegetarian curry, again with an option to add chicken. I had the curry which was OK, but next time I’d probably go with the other choice.
