Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA website showing not a single seat available for purchase in any class on any flight today (22nd) and tomorrow from ,EL to SYD.

I cancelled my flight and bought Rex. Too risky to have VA cancel and no flights until Sunday :(

Of course this was the few times all year the VA flight actually left on time! :D

I think you’ll find pretty much every route on the network has been zeroed out for tomorrow (23rd).

Probably a deliberate move so they have some capacity set aside when the inevitable cancellations roll in tomorrow.

The next couple of days in the early evening are thunderstorm likely periods across the east coast so try and fly in the morning if possible.

Starts to normalise mid next week, but will be a few disruptions around the traps over the coming 3/4 days. Sunday and Monday seems to be the most probable of severe network disruption with all three east coast capitals potentially being impacted by thunderstorms.

The back end of next week seems like a good period to travel, not the first half!

I did wonder whether is was intentional, to have spare capacity.

But… without VA communicating that, the other alternative was too high a risk. So I cancelled.

Yesterday’s delayed VA1746 departed ASP mid-afternoon today, as the same flight number and still operated by VH-YIY, and has arrived in ADL. About 26 hours later than scheduled, but no doubt with many people thankful to still be able to spend Christmas where they had planned. FR24 suggests the aircraft will ferry ADL - SYD later this evening.

Further to the disruption on the same route late last week, today’s VA1747 and the return VA1746 (ADL - ASP - ADL) have been cancelled for Operational reasons. Next of the 3x/week services is due to operate 27 Dec.

Any idea what happened to VH-YQG?
VA722 Adl to Per, late from Per due storms, lined rwy up and descended ADL and took back off to Mel. Now live and headed back to ADL 12:30am.
Only thing I could have thought of is curfew issues... No point if you've already flown over those houses!

Wind is absolutely howling at my place and some branches down all around my area. Not sure what it’s like down at the airport it wouldn’t have though it would be enough to stop aircraft landing

This evening’s VA721 1820 ADL - PER just cancelled, due to engineering issues - not with the aircraft scheduled to operate the service (VH-VUP, which has arrived from operating the previous sector ASP-ADL), but with the aircraft carrying the cabin crew scheduled to operate VA 721, which has returned to the gate in MEL following earlier pushback- ?VH - VUK / VA237 (although this flight is still currently showing on flight tracking sites as operating/estimated).

ie - aircraft and flight crew in ADL ready to operate VA 721, but no replacement cabin crew. Pax maybe rebooked to fly to an eastern seaboard port for an overnight transcontinental flight, or overnighting in ADL to fly tomorrow

It just landed in ADL early?

Edit: it was VA233 (VH-VOL) that had the gate return

VA1292 (VH-YIG) the 1145 CNS-MEL service made it 3mins into its taxi before returning to a gate. Now rescheduled to a 1745 departure onto VH-VUP when it gets here from BNE. Eventually departed 1745, Arr MEL 2145.

Not a good day to be flying from on VHYWA. VA1687 CBR to OOL with a 1035 departure has been sitting idle since it arrived as VA259 from MEL.

17FEB VA1687 CBR-OOL. Original deprture: 1035, delayed to 1430.

Pax boarded around the 1430 mark. After boarding, it was announced that this service is now cancelled and pax requested to offload. Pax offload completed around 1505 and asked to go downstairs to collect checked-in bags. Around 1510, announcement at gate by VA staff requesting pax to hang around Gate 10, as the Captain might have some good news. Gate 10 is now packed with, what I can say as, unhappy VA pax.

Update to this.

At 1523, replacement Captain and FA arrived with their gear at Gate 10. They were were warmly welcomed by the pax at Gate 10. There were "whooing", "clapping", "yelling heyyyy" for the replacement Captain & his FA. 🤣:cool: Pax were genuinely happy to see them. Pax at the shops near Gate 10 also joined in the jeering :D Although not travelling today (sadly), I joined in the mini-celebrations and I clapped too ;)

At 1525, the previous Captain & FA exited the aircraft and Gate 10. There were no jeering for them sadly! :( Poor things :(
