Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

The Thursday 9 June 2016 VA1 (B773ER VH-VPD) - SYD to LAX - was still second in the queue for takeoff at 1193 so should be delayed into LAX.

The 1145 PER - BME, VA1485, took off very late at 1257 on Friday 10 June and should be at its destination airport's gate at about 1520, 105 minutes behind time with F100 VH-FSW. I am not sure if this flight has been reduced in seat capacity but that is VA's intention as it endeavours to sell five of its E190s, three ATRs and so on.

Early morning Sunday 12 June 2016 flight VA206 (0635 hours ADL across to MEL) must have experienced some difficulties as it was not airborne until 0816. B738 VH-VUZ will therefore not arrive until roughly 0951, 86 minutes late.

It is then returning to the 'wine capital' as VA219, the 1005, but that will be unable to depart until about 1025. Not a good start to the Sunday for this rotation, but thankfully a generous turnaround time in MEL allows at least an hour to be recovered. That would not necessarily be the case on a weekday and shows how quiet Sunday mornings are, as is the case with most public transport domestically - sporting or special events being about the only exceptions in non school holidays.

Presumably due to foggy conditions in CBR, the Thursday 15 June 2016 VA257 (0700 MEL - CBR, E190 VH-ZPL) was airborne at 0758 and is about to arrive at 0850 hours, 45 minutes late.

VA628 (ATR 72 VH-FVQ), the 0705 from SYD took off at 0802 and is just behind VA257, arriving at about 0854, 49 minutes late.

VA100, the Thursday 16 June 1830 hours early evening MEL to CHC (B738 VH-YIG) was airborne at 1940 hours and should arrive at approximately 0059 (on Friday 17 June), 64 minutes late.

VA342 (1655 hours BNE down to MEL) took off at 1743 and with E190 VH-ZPG doing the honours should arrive at 2008, 48 minutes behind time.

VA879 (1830 hours MEL up to SYD was airborne very late at 2020 this evening with arrival likely at 2127, 92 minutes late: aircraft is B738 VH-YFF.

On Friday 17 June, VA884 (1915 hours SYD down to MEL) took off at 1937 - barely late - but is only just arriving at MEL at about 2138 hours, 48 minutes late with B738 VH-YFR. The airport may simply have been very busy with incoming flights, or there has been low visibility on what has been a very dull day with a fair amount of drizzly temperate climate style rain in Melbourne.

The following VA886 (1930 ex SYD) was also timely in its 1947 hours into the sky, but has also been delayed through a hold to the east of Canberra as well as the usual 'slowing down' by ATC, such that arrival is suggested for B738 VH-YFL at about 2157 hours, 52 minutes late.

On Saturday 18 June, VA308, the 0920 hours arrival in MEL ex BNE was cancelled as will be VA327, the 1200 'high noon' MEL - BNE.

VA181 (0830 from SYD to NAN, B738 VH-YIV) did not take off until 0950 so arrival should be at about 1508 in lieu of 1430 hours.

Saturday's Christmas island to Perth was cancelled. Any idea of why or or how common this is on this twice weekly route? The weather looks fine.

Junior and I are booked for a trip in November and am starting to think it may get 'involuntarily extended'.

VA are warning (via email/text) of possible delays at BNE this afternoon due to adverse weather.

The rain has just started to fall at a reasonable rate. Hopefully not too bad to affect my flight home to PER this afternoon.

Delays in BNE are starting to rack up with most upcoming VA departures running approximately 20 minutes late.

Flights to TSV and MKY are running 50 minutes behind schedule.

Google Now does a very good job at updating flight departure times as I received an update on my tablet within 10 seconds of the lounge departure boards updating with my delayed departure information.

Between 1730 and 1846 hours on Sunday 19 June, BNE airport had 40 millimetres of rain - very heavy. Between 1430 and 1921 tonight, SYD airport has had 20 millimetres of rain - far from insignificant.

VA1225, the 1725 hours CBR to BNE took off early at 1730 (B738 VH-YID) but is only just arriving at 1945 hours, 40 minutes behind time.

VA1720, the 1750 from GLT down to BNE took off a little behind time at 1816 but ATR72 VH-FVL is expected to arrive about 50 minutes behind the schedule at 2000 hours.

The 1800 hours SYD - BNE, VA973 took off at 1844 and should arrive at about 2021, 51 minutes late. Aircraft is VH-VOT, another B738.

VA669 (the evening CBR - SYD, scheduled to depart at 1905 hours) took off at 2039 with arrival expected at 2131 tonight, 86 minutes late. B738 VH-VUR is operating this short sector.

The 1900 hours MEL up to BNE (VA351, 'critically endangered VA species' E190 VA-ZPM) took off at 2101 hours with arrival suggested as 2300, a pretty similar hour and 50 minutes late. Nonetheless, more comfortable than an A320 or B738 for passengers whatever the stressed VA beancounters think.

The 1930 hours MEL - SYD (VA887, B738 VH-YFR) was in the sky at 2042 hours and hence should arrive at about 2157, 62 minutes late.

VA544 (1905 hours OOL down to SYD) took off at 2008 (B738 VH-VUG) and so instead of arriving at 2035 should be in at approximately 2117, 42 minutes behind the schedule.

The 1905 hours BNE down to NTL, VA1108 (E190 VH-ZPB) took off at 2136 and so should arrive at 2238, 133 minutes tardy.

The 1955 hours MEL up to DRW (VA1465, B738 VH-VUW) took off at 2041 with arrival estimated at 0033 on Monday 20 June, 38 minutes late.

The Monday 20 June 2016 VA257 (0700 MEL up to CBR) did not take off until 0754 so arrival of B738 VH-YFP should be at around 0848 hours, 43 minutes late.

VA819 (0800 hours peak period MEL - SYD) was not airborne until 0904 so B738 VH-VOO will arrive at about 1017, 52 minutes late.

On a wet Monday 20 June 2016, VA1614, the 1155 MQL down to MEL (E190 VH-ZPT) took off at a very late 1458 hours with arrival suggested 188 minutes late at 1603 hours.

VA1756, the 1430 hours HTI down to MEL took off at 1505 with arrival suggested as 1909, 39 minutes late. Aircraft is B738 VH-VON.

Only 39 minutes late was excellent for Melbourne yesterday!

VA888, the 2000 hours SYD - MEL was airborne at 2053 on Wednesday 22 June and hence should arrive at the southern capital's terminal gate at around the 2218 mark this evening, 43 minutes tardy. Aircraft is VH-VUO, a ubiquitous B738.

On Thursday 23 June 2016, VA1351, the 0945 hours SYD - DRW (B738 VH-YVD) took off at 1100 and should arrive at 1452, 47 minutes late.

Preemptive email just received - " Flights in and out of Sydney tomorrow may be impacted by strong winds resulting in single runway operations from 1200 to 2300. As a result, your Virgin Australia flight may be affected. We will be working to ensure we have guests safely on their way as soon as possible. We encourage guests to contact Virgin Australia for earlier or alternate travel arrangements and to check the status of their flight here: https://flightstatus.virginaustralia.com/flightNumber Kind Regards, Virgin Australia " Knew I should have chosen Qantas for a time critical flight, Virgin just can't cope in these situations, damn it :(

NNW winds at MEL are gusting up to 43 kilometres an hour at 1700 and may be starting to intensify somewhat. VA228, the 1505 hours mid afternoon flight from ADL across to MEL was airborne at 1550 and should arrive in the shape of B738 VH-YFQ at about 1726 hours, 31 minutes behind time.

VA346, the 1755 hours from BNE down to MEL took off at 1819 and should arrive at about 2053 tonight, 33 minutes late. Plane is B738 VH-VUQ.
