Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Neither of the two 'majors' are having a good day on the SYD - MEL route with northbound VA877, the 1815 hours to SYD taking off at 1907 and being expected into the northern capital at around 2021, 41 minutes late.

Southbound VA870 should arrive at about 1947, 42 minutes late with B738 VH-YFV.

B738 VH-VUW on the 1650 hours OOL-MEL took off at 1948 with arrival suggested as 2004, 49 minutes late.

The 1655 hours BNE - MEL, VA342, was in the sky at 1734 and should arrive in the shape of B738 VH-VUC at 1953, 33 minutes late.

VA451 (1715 hours on the SYD - MEL route) was airborne at 1825 with VH-VXD, another B738 now due in the southern capital at 1938, 48 minutes behind schedule.

On Monday 11 July 2016, VA806, the 0745 SYD down to MEL was not airborne until 0818. Coupled with a hold prior to MEL, A332 VH-XFE should arrive at around 0858, 38 minutes late. VA679, the 0915 'tourist friendly' departure across to PER will be delayed and likely to depart at approximately 0940.

VA808 is about 45 minutes late with arrival in MEL likely at 0920 hours ex SYD; B738 VH-YIF is the plane. VA812 is an expected 36 minutes late (B738 VH-VOS).

Earlier, VA804, the 0730 SYD - MEL was cancelled.

On Wednesday 13 July, VA925, the 0900 SYD - BNE took off at 1004 with arrival of E190 VH-ZPK suggested as 1123, 53 minutes late. Competitor QF512 that has an identical departure time is on its tail.

VA175 (0925 hours BNE - NAN, B738 VH-YIH) took off at 1014 with likely arrival at 1529 hours mid afternoon, 34 minutes tardy.

Later on Wednesday 13 July, a day with a prevailing westerly wind for the majority of the day (as well as being very chilly in SYD and MEL), VA169, the 1750 hours flight to the Pacific's TBU took off at 2011 with arrival of B738 VH-YIZ suggested at 0220 hours, an hour behind schedule.

VA882 (1900 hours from SYD down to MEL) (B738 VH-VUE) was still taxiing at 2018 prior to departure, with arrival suggested as 2130, 55 minutes late.

VA895 ex MEL arrived SYD 41 minutes late at 2236 but it is far from the last RPT flight to touch down before the 2300 curfew.

Cutting it finer as regards meeting the SYD 2300 hours curfew is VA564, the 1610 hours PER - SYD, which took off at 1724 and has touchdown suggested as 2256. Aircraft is A332 VH-XFH. There is JQ819 from BNE coming in after this VA one, at an expected 2258 touchdown.

During the late evening of Thursday 14 July, VA697 (2045 hours MEL across to PER, A332 VH-XFG) took off at 2206 with arrival suggested as 2358, 55 minutes late.

On Sunday 17 July, VA1754 (1225 HTI down to MEL) took off at 1346 hours, about an hour late (B738 VH-VUF) and so should arrive MEL at roughly 1643, 78 minutes behind schedule.

VA1496, also from HTI at a scheduled time of 1355 was airborne at 1449 hours; B738 VH-YIF should arrive 36 minutes late in often sunny BNE at 1601 hours.

VA878 (1830 hours SYD down to MEL on Sunday 17 July, B738 VH-YIF) took off late at 1914 and is arriving at about 2051, 46 minutes behind the schedule.

Monday 18 July 2016 sees quite windy conditions at Melbourne Airport with gusts of 47 to 57 kilometres an hour recorded between 0600 and 0900 hours as well as earlier fog in SYD that caused (and is continuing to cause) many disruptions.

VA308, the 0655 hours BNE down to MEL took off at 0734; arrival of B738 VH-YFC should be at 1010, 50 minutes late.

The 0800 VA816 SYD down to MEL took off at 0832. Arrival should be at 1014, 39 late with B738 VH-YIF. VA814, the 0745 hours southbound took off at 0834 (after VA816) and should arrive at 1030 in MEL ex SYD, again showing what a lottery it can be with closely spaced flights when there are delays. Aircraft is E190 VH-ZPO.

VA256, the 0835 hours CBR - MEL took off at 0909 and should arrive at 1034, 49 minutes late.

VA401 (0600 hours first of the morning from ADL across to SYD) was airborne at a very late 0825 and hence is arriving SYD 130 minutes late at 1030. B738 VH-VON is the aircraft.

I'm on the NTL-MEL flight today and it's delayed at least an hour and a half. Fog delays in Sydney on the inbound aircraft are given as the reason.

Delays related to this morning's severe fog in SYD are continuing into the very late afternoon of Monday 18 July 2016 with VA1282, the 1300 hours HTI - SYD leisure flight not having been in the sky until 1608. B738 VH-VUK should arrive at roughly 1817, 177 minutes tardy.

VA1166 (1620 hours CFS - SYD) took off at 1716 with arrival predicted at 1822, 57 minutes late. VH-VUA is the B738.

The 1600 hours MEL - SYD (VA859, B738 VH-YIF) was airborne at 1724 with a 65 minute late, 1830 hours arrival forecast.

VA1594, the 1425 hours NTL - MEL (B738 VH-VUR) flight (perhaps not the one that AFFer 777 was referring to above though) took off on 18 July at 1704 with arrival suggested as 1843, 163 minutes late.

VA683 Syd-Per arrived 50 min late at 1535. The return has 30 min or so up its sleeve before it has to genuflect before the Minister/delegate

If you are referring to VA564, the 1610 hours PER - SYD, it was airborne at 1638 and with VH-XFJ as its A332 should be about 10 minutes early into SYD at roughly 2210 tonight as it is maintaining an impressive indicated speed of 1065 kilometres an hour as it enters the Great Australian Bight.

Expect delays from/to BNE today as SYD passed on the fog they had yesterday. I'm directly west of the airport about 8kms and it's a pea souper here

Further to QF WP's good point, VA912,the 0630 hours BNE down to SYD took off at 0800 (B738 VH-YFL).

VA308, the 0655 hours BNE - MEL was still in the queue for ATC clearance for take off as at 0805 (B738 VH-VUW) while VA773 (0700 BNE - CNS, VH-YFF) remained at the BNE terminal.

As always on such foggy days, the effect on the national flights network of each carrier will vary from unaffected flights to severe delays, and anything in between. If flights elsewhere are held for connecting passengers it can cause a 'ripple effect' even though airlines do their best to recover time and can do so through generous flight sector times and turnaround allowances. Some flight rosters are tighter than others, but Tuesday is not the busiest weekday.

After my Conference yesterday, I know a couple of senior execs who were flying back to SYD this morning - they'll be late ðŸ

Re: Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations - VA7

Does anyone know what on earth is going on with VA flights to USA???
With a trip just over a week away BNE-LAX on VA7 looking at the history in the past week or so 30% of these flights have been delayed between 6 - 14 hours and one cancelled.
In comparison with other carriers flying to USA over the same period they are all pretty much on time.

Each year for the past 5 years my VA flight to LAX has been turned upside down costing me a fortune in onward travel plans, so naturally I am a little nervous and more so curious as to why VA flights to/from LAX seem to be plagued with delays.
Naturally weather, congestion etc isn't the issue if everyone else is coming and going on time, so any thoughts as to what may be the cause????
