Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Monday 27 February has VA811 (0700 hours MEL up to SYD that took off at 0744, A332 Vh-XFG) not arriving until 0905, 40 minutes behind schedule.

Probably due to the predicted early morning fog in MEL on Thursday 2 March, VA204, the 0605 hours ADL - MEL (B738 VH-VOK) did not take off until 0811; arrival is suggested as 62 minutes late at 0857. This will delay VA1751, the MEL - HTI 0845 hours scheduled departure to at least 0930, although one website is unrealistically optimistic in predicting a departure at about 0915.

VA302 and VA806, the 0820 hours arrivals in MEL respectively ex BNE and SYD have been cancelled as has VA812, the 0906 hours arrival ex SYD.

VA319, the 0900 hours MEL to BNE and VA833, the 1000 MEL - SYD have both also got the bullet.

Earlier, VA696, the redeye 0510 hours arrival in MEL from PER arrived almost two hours behind schedule. In the QF delays thread, AFF member Cessna 180 had kindly informed us about late evening (Ash Wednesday 1 March) heavy rain in PER.

B738 VH-VUU on VA809 (0645 hours MEL - SYD) took off at 0758; arrival should be at 0911 hours, 61 minutes late.

VA1100 (E190 VH-ZPT), the 0600 hours BNE down to NTL took off early at 0603 but has been in a hold off the coast so arrival will be about half an hour late at 0850.

Delays into and out of MEL are continuing mid morning on Thursday 2 March as a consequence of the early morning fog that has seen (for instance) QF30, the B744 from HKG diverted to SYD.

VA820, the 0830 SYD - MEL (B738 VH-YFI) took off at 0911 hours and so should pull in to its designated MEL gate at roughly 1045 hours, 40 minutes late.

The 0840 hours CBR - MEL VA256 was also caught up in the standard Mt Buffalo, Vic. holding pattern so having taken off at 0940, it should be at its destination at about 1058, 68 minutes late. Aircraft is B738 VH-YFQ.

During the evening of Friday 3 March, VA867 (1700 hours MEL to SYD, B738 VH-YFV) should arrive at 1932, 67 minutes late.

VA879 (1830 hours from MEL up to SYD, B738 VH-YIG) did not take off until 2020 tonight; arrival is at 2134, 99 minutes tardy. Sydney's wet weather cannot be helping.

VA887 (also northbound, the scheduled 1930 departure that took off from MEL at 2104 with E190 VH-ZPQ) should arrive at 2217, 82 minutes late.

On Sunday 5 March, VA324 (1055 hours BNE - MEL) took off at 1139. B738 VH-VOS should arrive at 1451 hours, 36 minutes behind schedule.

VA1508 (1540 hours scheduled arrival in MEL ex MCY) and VA272 (the 1510 mid afternoon arrival ex CBR in MEL) have been cancelled.

Continuing with Sunday 5 March, VA539, the 1810 hours from SYD to OOL operated by B738 VH-YIY took off at 1921. Arrival should be at roughly 1928, 58 minutes late.

Monday 6 March has VA304, the super early morning 0555 BNE - MEL that was airborne at 0640 (B738 VH-VOK) arriving at about 0950 hours, 35 minutes late. This would often form VA321, the 1000 hours MEL back up to BNE but that has been cancelled.

VA804, the 0630 hours SYD - MEL was cancelled, as has been VA308, the next scheduled arrival in MEL ex BNE after the above VA304. VA834, the 1100 SYD - MEL has also got the flick as has VA271, the 1320 early afternoon MEL - CBR.

The 0630 hours AKL - MEL, VA149 (B738 VH-YIS) did not take off until 0749 so the result is arrival at around 0937 hours, 57 minutes late.

VA679 (the 0915 hours mid morning MEL - PER that was airborne at 1046, A332 VH-XFD) should arrive at around 1118, 48 minutes tardy.

Many of us may not know the airport code 'XCH', but apparently it is Christmas Island, a destination that from memory has always had sky high fares.

On Tuesday 7 March, VA1909, the 1300 hours ex PER that was airborne at 1409 should arrive XCH at about 1649, 59 minutes late. A320 Vh-FNP is the aircraft.

On Monday 13 March, the mid morning 1100 hours MEL - BNE (VA323) will be cancelled while VA803 (the 0600 MEL - SYD) also did not run.

VA308, the 1015 hours arrival in MEL ex BNE and VA824, the 1000 SYD down to MEL have also been cancelled.

VA1627 (B738 VH-VOK, 0955 hours SYD - AYQ) took off at 1052 - arrival should be at 1232, 32 minutes late.

VA252, the Thursday 16 March 0625 hours CBR down to MEL was not airborne until 0730. E190 VH-ZPI should arrive at about 0830, 55 minutes late but due to air traffic congestion there are a few aircraft in a hold approaching MEL, probably not helped by the wet weather.

The 0715 hours SYD - MEL (VA810, B738 VH-YFP) took off at 0806 with arrival suggested as 0930, 40 late.

Later on Thursday 16 March, VA860, the 1615 hours SYD - MEL that was airborne at 1708 with B738 VH-YFP should arrive at 1827, 37 minutes late.

On Friday 17 March the AKL - MEL VA149 should arrive at about 0924, 44 minutes late with B738 VH-VOR; some of the delay is due to it being placed in a holding pattern north of Walhalla, Vic.

Much later on 17 March, VA247, the evening 2010 hours MEL - ADL is expected to commence pushback at around 2130. This is because VA876, the 1950 hours arrival in MEL ex SYD is more than an hour late.

VA866, the 1700 hours SYD - MEL, VA882, the 1900 hours departure in the same direction and VA886, the 1940 hours have all been cancelled. Another to face the chop is the 2115 hours arrival in MEL ex BNE, VA346.
Three VA cancellations ex Sydney on a Friday night is unusual. Sydney Airport has had 3.8mm of rain since 0900 hours: nothing unusual.

The 2010 hours SYD - OOL departed at 2129 (VA545, VH-YFS, another B738.) Arrival should be at roughly 2142 hours, 72 late.

VA9940 that may be a transfer flight ex an internal refurbishment from SIN to BNE (VH-VOZ, B773ER) on Saturday 18 March is expected to arrive at 1340, 40 minutes behind schedule.

A320 VH-YUD on VA1912, the 1250 from XCH to PER that took off at 1344 should arrive at around 1805, 40 late.

On Sunday 19 March 2017, VA739, the 1110 hours MEL up to OOL was airborne at 1149; arrival of B738 VH-YFF is predicted at about 1245, half an hour tardy.

The VA7 to which AviatorInsight kindly refers looks to have arrived LAX at about 1600 hours instead of 0630 making it about nine and a half hour late. Thankfully with the long turnaround that both VA and QF typically have in LAX (the exception being QF15 to QF11 to QF12 to QF16 across the USA and back to LAX), VA8, the 2305 hours LAX - SYD is (touch wood) unlikely to be delayed.

Also on Sunday 19 March, VA854 (1530 hours mid afternoon from SYD down to MEL, B738 VH-VUR) is likely to arrive at around 1750, 45 late.

VA347 (the 1800 hours MEL - BNE that was airborne at 1843, B738 VH-YFQ) should arrive at roughly 1946, 36 late.

B738 VH-VUO on VA1245, the 1530 hours BNE - ROK that was airborne at 1719 hours should arrive at around 1813, 93 minutes tardy.

On Monday 20 March, VA806, the 0645 hours SYD - MEL was cancelled. The 1125 hours arrival in MEL ex ADL, VA214 is also cancelled as are VA213, the 0810 hours MEL - ADL and VA314, the 1415 hours arrival in MEL from BNE. VA333 (1500 hours MEL - BNE) is also not running.

VA816, the 0800 SYD - MEL (B738 VH-YFN) was earlier predicted to be about 80 minutes late but is a little later than that, with takeoff at 0938 meaning likely arrival at 1103 hours, 99 minutes behind time.

The 0855 hours MEL - CNS VA1291 (B738 VH-VUU) was airborne at 1013; arrival should be at 1218, 58 minutes late.

B738 VH-YIQ on VA112, the 1045 hours SYD - ZQN had yet to take off by 1250 on Monday 20 March so it will be quite badly late.

In further on Monday 20 March, VA427 (1500 hours from ADL across to SYD that took off at 1609) should arrive at around 1820 hours, 55 minutes tardy. VH-YFK is the B738.

The 0945 hours PER - MEL, VA682 was airborne at 1113 hours so arrival of B738 VH-YIE should be at 1739, 79 minutes late.

VA228 (the 1505 hours ADL - MEL that was airborne at 1658 with B738 VH-VUG should arrive at 1835, 100 minutes tardy.

The 1610 hours VA580 from ADL to CBR, E190 VH-ZPR took off at 1651 so arrival should be at 1853, 38 minutes late.

VA1754 (1435 hours HTI down to MEL that was airborne at 1543, B738 VH-YIY) should arrive at roughly 1919, 44 minutes tardy.

It looks like CBR airport was closed to arrivals for a while (unfortunately the BOM radar for Captain's Flat is inoperable) as VA660 (ATR72 VH-VPI), the 1705 hours SYD - CBR that took off on time or even early at 1716 hours has performed numerous circuits and is not expected to arrive until 1850, 45 minutes late.
