Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Later on Monday 17 July, VA739 (1115 hours MEL - OOL that took off at 1205 hours) should arrive with B738 VH-VUJ at 1351 hours, 31 minutes behind schedule.

One of the QQ-operated flights, VA1230 (0700 hours Tuesday 18 July ROK - BNE, F100 VH-XWO) did not become airborne until 0753. A 40 minute late, 0850 hours arrival is expected.
Some fog had been predicted in the Brisbane area so it looks as if some arrivals may have been held at origin airports until ATC was more confident about the level of fog cover.

In the extremely early hours of Tuesday 25 July, VA89, the 0035 hours MEL - HKG is instead expected to depart at 0215.

This looks to be because A332 VH-XFH on VA694, the 1735 hours PER across to MEL is expected to depart at about 1950 hours and hence not reach MEL domestic terminal until about 0100 on Tuesday.

VA697, the Monday 24 July mid evening 2045 hours MEL to PER should depart at 2230.

Adding to numerous delays during the Wednesday 26 July afternoon in SYD due to most aircraft using runway 25 (east-west), VA1532 (1355 hours SYD down to HBA, B738 VH-VUK) was in the sky at 1513. Forecast arrival is at 1701 hours, 71 minutes late.

On Thursday 27 July, VA625, the first of the morning at 0600 from CBR to SYD did not beat the fog despite other flights managing to do this. ATR72 VH-FVX took off at 0809 so SYD arrival is estimated to be 131 minutes late at 0911 hours. On a CBD to CBD basis, just as quick to travel on NSWTrainLink's morning train.

Monday 31 July's VA86 (1950 hours overnight HKG - MEL, A332 VH-XFC) was not in the sky until 2250 hours. Tuesday 1 August arrival is suggested as 0935, 135 minutes tardy.

VA811. VA827 and VA833 (0700, 0900 and 1000 hours MEL - SYD) and VA259 (0830 hours MEL - CBR) have been cancelled on Tuesday 1 August.

Also having received the boot are VA252 (0730 hours arrival in MEL ex CBR), VA804 and VA812 (0630 and 0730 hours SYD - MEL) and VA304 (0820 hours arrival in MEL ex BNE.)

This is not a good morning for VA. What is causing these cancellations? Bookings would have to be extremely low for three morning flights on the MEL - SYD route to be cancelled, so it may not be due to that.
