Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA500, the 0600 hours OOL - SYD that took off at 0717 on Thursday 14 June (B738 Vh-VUI) due to SYD fog is likely to arrive at 0835 hours, 65 minutes late.

VA257 (B738 VH-YFT, the 0700 hours MEL - CBR) was airborne at 0730 but with a hold en route arrival should be at 0918, 73 minutes late on a foggy winter's day.

Southbound VA628 (SYD - CBR, ATR72 VH-FVZ, the 0705 hours) took off at 0807 and should arrive at roughly 0918 hours, also by a quirk 73 minutes late.

In further on Thursday 15 June, VA1413 (0850 hours morning flight, SYD - CNS with B738 VH-VFU was still only taxiing at 1001. So was VA511, the 0910 hours SYD - OOL with B738 VH-VUC.

VA518 from OOL down to SYD (B738 VH-VUC), the scheduled 1105 hours that took off at 1202 is arriving 46 minutes late at 1321.

On Saturday 17 June, VA9051, the super early start 0530 hours from PER up to KTA (F100 VH-FSW) took off at 0620 for a projected arrival at 0819 hours, 49 minutes tardy.

Much later on 17 June, VA1912, the mid afternoon XCH - PER (A320 VH-YUD) took off at 1613. Arrival should be at 2046, 116 minutes behind schedule.

On Wednesday 21 June, VA184, the late afternoon 1725 NAN to MEL was airborne at 1812. B738 VH-VOR is likely to arrive at 2146 hours, 31 late.

On Thursday 22 June, Canberra may be foggy as VA628, 0705 hours SYD - CBR (E190 VH-ZPQ) that was airborne at 0828 hours is in a holding pattern east of Tarago, NSW. Two QF flights (QF804 and QF1461) are much closer to CBR with QF804 appearing to have had a missed approach at about 0754 this morning, although QF804 eventually landed at 0813.

VA257 (B738 VH-YFS, the 0700 hours MEL - CBR that was airborne at 0726) was in a relatively brief hold southwest of CBR but may be able to arrive at around 0829, 24 late.

UPDATE: VA628 landed at approximately 0641 in CBR.

Much later on 22 June 2017, VA697 (2045 hours MEL - PER, A332 VH-XFJ) took off at 2157. Arrival is predicted for 2356 hours, 51 minutes behind the schedule.

VA252 (Friday 23 June 2017 0620 hours CBR - MEL) did not take off until 0723, so B738 VH-YIA is not predicted to arrive until 0839 hours, 69 minutes late. This will delay VA819, the 0800 hours MEL - SYD until at least 0915 hours although one website all too optimistically claims '0905.' Observations indicate that VA cannot normally achieve a 26 minute turnaround of a B738.

VA257, the 0700 hours MEL - CBR had yet to depart by 0822 with a nominal departure time of 0830 hours.

VA258, the 1140 hours arrival in MEL ex CBR has been cancelled with the presumably foggy conditions.

UPDATE: VA257 was airborne at 0832 hours.

VA628 (0705 hours SYD - CBR, B738 VH-YID) was in the sky at 0848 with projected arrival at 0926, 81 late. However a few other VA or QF aircraft are in holding patterns due to the fog and QF1543 looks to have diverted away from CBR so one doubts if VA628 will arrive at 0926.

FURTHER UPDATE: While QF1511 had a missed approach at 1016, VA257 may have landed at 1024 hours, more than two hours late.

In further on Friday 23 June, VA850 (1500 hours SYD - MEL, B738 VH-VUA) was in the sky at a much delayed 1708. Arrival is suggested as 1834, 119 minutes behind schedule. This will in turn delay VA241, the 1835 hours MEL - ADL to a predicted 1915 hours departure.

VA883 (1900 hours evening MEL - SYD) has been cancelled as has VA872, 1745 hours SYD - MEL.

The 1705 hours OOL down to SYD (VA536 - B737 VH-VBV) was not in the sky until 1750, so arrival is predicted at 1917, 42 minutes late.

VA1226 (B738 VH-YFX, the 1915 hours BNE - CBR that became airborne at 2018) should arrive at roughly 2203 hours, 58 minutes late.

Also on Friday 23 June, VA356 (B738 VH-VOM,, the 2055 hours BNE - MEL that was airborne at 2205) should arrive at 0018 on Saturday 24, 58 late.

The OOL - CBR VA1696 (VH-VBY) looks to be arriving at 2335 hours, 50 minutes tardy.

Saturday 24 June sees VA625, the timetabled first of the morning at 0600 hours from CBR up the short distance to SYd (E190 VH-ZPK) not having taken off until 0932 hours with arrival suggested as 1009, 189 minutes tardy. Although one later QF flight was late departing, another around 0630 (QF1470) was only marginally delayed so there may not have been much or any fog in CBR this morning, unlike Thursday and Friday mornings when there were large delays and in the case of Friday, diversions to MEL and SYD.

VA1510 (1325 hours MCY - MEL that was in the sky at 1412, B738 VH-VUH) looks to be arriving at 1637 hours, 42 minutes behind the timetable.

VA470 BNE-PER has been delayed this afternoon due to a sick pilot. As A332 pilots are a bit thin on the ground in BNE on Sunday evenings, we could be waiting for a while for one to turn up.

Edit - 17:30 departure out to 19:45 at least...

Pleb Status, fantastic on-the-spot report. Google claims you will be departing at 2000 hours.

Two and a half hours anticipated delay is not bad in the sense that the operations centre may have to ask a pilot to come in - and if he's not in an hotel, but his private residence, that takes time. Of course it's annoying for you and fellow travellers though.

Yes Melburnian1, it just clocked over to 20:00 from 19:45. We have been advised someone has been found and on their way.

On the bright side, at least VA do not appear to be hiding the full extent of the delay, unlike other airlines which drip feed the delay in 30 minute increments...

A replacement FO flew up from SYD and it looks like push back for VA470 will be a few minutes after 20:00.

AFF member Pleb Status' VA470 on Sunday 25 June took off from BNE at 2028 and touched down in PER at 2336 compared with a timetabled at gate arrival time of 2115 hours, so it was just under two and a half hours late in the end.

On Monday 26 June, VA1351, the 0945 hours SYD - DRW that took off at 1028 hours (B737 VH-YIF) should arrive at 1435, half an hour behind schedule.

The 0630 hours BNE down to SYD on Tuesday 27 June, VA912, did not get into the air until 0706 so inevitably it has lost its slot and hence B738 VH-VUK should arrive at around 0846, 41 minutes late. Part is due to being placed in a racetrack like holding pattern near Singleton NSW.
