Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

After the above Tuesday 6 June drama at Albury airport, unsurprisingly the returning flight VA1175 was cancelled. ATR VH-FVR was supposed to depart on empty working VA9975 from ABX at 1700 hours up to SYD but appears not to have yet done so as at 1930 tonight. One assumes that NSW police had to collect evidence from the plane such as fingerprints in the toilet that the accused was alleged to have left a one word message ('BOMB') in.

Apart from the sheer lunacy of the alleged crime, he does not strike me as very smart, as on a small aircraft and a short distance flight there would often only be a very small number who used the facilities. Perhaps his defence will be 'someone else did it from a previous flight' if he does not plead guilty.

On a very wet Wednesday 7 June 2017 in Sydney, VA920 (B738 VH-YFW), the 0735 hours from BNE down to SYD was not in the sky until 0845 hours. As a result, it should pull in to its gate in SYD at around 1005, 55 minutes behind schedule.

Short hop VA633 on the 0805 hours CBR - SYD, VA633, should arrive at approximately 1009, 64 minutes late with ATR72 VH-FVY.

VA819 (0800 hours MEL - SYD, B738 VH-VOP) was airborne at 0905. Arrival is predicted at 1022, 57 minutes tardy.

The following flight, VA823 (VH-VUF) will be an expected 44 late into SYD at 1039 hours on what is Australia's best patronised air route.

In further on Wednesday 7 June, VA1627, the 1005 hours SYD - AYQ that took off at 1118 (B738 VH-YFW) should arrive at 1355, 40 minutes late. This was because VA920 from BNE to SYD was late as noted above.

VA641 (1015 hours CBR - SYD, E190 VH-ZPK) took off at 1042, only about 15 minutes late, but arrival is not expected until 1149, 44 minutes late due to it being in a fairly lengthy hold a little north of Goulburn NSW.

The 0945 hours mid morning VA1351 (B738 VH-VUL) was in the sky at 1147, so arrival is likely at 1541, 96 minutes tardy.

Later on Wednesday 7 June, delays are continuing on the SYD - MEL route for all four major domestic airlines with VA862, the 1630 hours SYD - MEL not in the sky until 1810. B738 VH-YIG should arrive at 1919 hours, 74 minutes tardy.

The following scheduled southbound 1700 hours departure, VA866 (B738 VH-VON) took flight at 1820, so the predicted 1932 hours pulling in to its allocated airport southern capital gate should be 57 minutes behind schedule.

The 1715 hours SYD - MEL, VA868 (VH-YFX) is an anticipated 51 minutes late with a 1941 hours arrival likely.

Also on 7 June, VA567 (1815 hours SYD across to PER that was in the sky at 1915, A332 VH-XFC) should be at its West Australian airport gate at 2209, 44 minutes behind schedule.

This has been contributing to delays:

VA882, which is mentioned in the above article, the 1900 hours SYD - MEL (B738 VH-YIE) was airborne at 2126 so arrival is suggested at 2231 instead of 2035 hours, 116 minutes behind schedule.

The 2025 hours from BNE down to MEL (VA356, VH-VOT) was in the sky at 2149 with arrival suggested as 2357 tonight, 67 minutes tardy.

VA973 (Thursday 8 June 2017 1800 hours from SYD up to BNE with B738 VH-YFE) should arrive at around 2013 hours this evening, 43 minutes late as it did not take off until 1856 hours.

VA1148 has had a shocking start to its Friday 9 June morning with takeoff not until 1011 hours despite an 0630 hours timetabled departure. This TMW - SYD flight with ATR72 VH-FVQ should arrive at 1121, 226 minutes late.

The may be fog at TMW as the northbound QF2022, the 0845 hours had not departed SYD by 1033.

Later on Friday 9 June, VA1178 (ATR VH-FVQ, the 1440 hours SYD - ABX that took off at 1606) should arrive at 1718 hours this afternoon, 68 minutes late.

As at 2000 AEST on Friday 9 June, rain in SYD is causing extensive delays.

VA1354, the 1445 hours mid afternoon from DRW down to SYD took off at 1512, only about 10 - 15 minutes late with B738 VH-VOS. Arrival is likely at 2013 hours, 43 minutes late due to a fairly lengthy holding pattern encountered near the lovely pastures of Aberdeen NSW.

The 1805 hours from BNE down to SYD (VA978, operated by B738 VH-YFR) took off at 1906. Its arrival has been delayed until an expected 2036, 56 minutes behind the eight ball.

VA879 (E190 VH-ZPN, the 1830 hours MEL - SYD that was airborne at 1847, only about five minutes late) has (and is still at 2017) enduring two separate rounds of holding patterns, with arrival suggested at 2047 hours, 52 minutes late.

The southbound SYD to CBR short hop VA670 (ATR72 VH-VPI, the 1935 hours) was in the sky at 2045. The 2136 hours arrival that is predicted will be 61 minutes late.

VA544 (B738 VH-YFG, the 1905 hours OOL - SYD that was up up and away at 1957 should arrive at 2123 hours, 48 minutes behind schedule.

VA895 Mel-Syd 2030 delayed 30 mins and counting. Boarding not even started yet. Probably another one of those flights where we make curfew by a small margin.

In further on a rainy Sydney evening (Friday 9 June) that has already seen CX139 divert to MEL, VA437, the 1825 early evening from ADL across to SYD (B738 VH-YFT) was airborne at 1909 hours. It is predicted to arrive at around 2140 hours, 55 minutes late.

VA545 (2010 hours SYD - OOL, B738 VH-VOS) took off at 2122, almost an hour late. VA444 (2015 hours SYD to ADL, VH-BZG) took off at 2123 so it is in a similar position, lack of punctuality-wise, to VA545.

VH-FVP (ATR72) on VA672 (2035 hours SYD - CBR) took off at 2128, about 40 late.

VA895 (B738 VH-YFV) took off from MEL at about 2134 so it should, provided the delays from other flights ahead in the queue moderate, be landing at about 2240 in SYD at a guess.

On Sunday 11 June, VA946 (B738 VH-YFH, the 1205 hours BNE - SYD that was airborne at 1314) should arrive at roughly 1425, 45 minutes late.

Closely following into SYD is VA1164, the 1336 hours in the sky from CFS to SYD (timetabled to depart at 1220) with arrival of E190 VH-ZPT likely at 1429 hours, 64 late.

The fog materialised (despite winds at 0500) and so VA819, the 0800 hours MEL - SYD (B738 VH-VUP) was not airborne until 0901 with predicted arrival at 1009 hours, 44 minutes late.

VA504 (B738 VH-VOT, the scheduled 0700 hours OOL down to SYD) was delayed in its takeoff until 0901 hours. Arrival should be at around the 1015 mark, 105 minutes tardy.

The 0600 hours CNS - SYD VA1408 (VH-VOP) is predicted to arrive at 1019, 84 late.

VA924 (0805 hours BNE - SYD that was airborne at 0908 hours, E190 VH-ZPT) looks to be arriving at 1028, 48 minutes tardy.

VA820, the 0830 hours SYD - MEL (B738 VH-VUE) was still only taxiing at 1010 so it is at least an hour late.

Later on Monday 12 June, VA837, the 1100 MEL - SYD (B738 VH-VUE) was airborne at 1236. SYD arrival is projected to be 1349, 84 late.

E190 VH-ZPN on VA951, the 1500 hours SYD - BNE that was not in the sky until 1548 should pull in at 1707 hours, 37 minutes late.

Tuesday 13 June 2017 sees VA616 (1655 hours MKY - BNE, operated by QQ's F100- VH-FKJ that should arrive 36 minutes late at 1856.

During the early evening of Wednesday 14 June 2017, VA95 from SYD to TBU (look up its code - I had to!) with B738 VH-YIL, the 1750 hours took off at 1841; arrival should be at 0159 hours, 39 minutes late on Thursday 15 June.

On Thursday 15 June, VA803, the first of the morning at 0600 hours from MEL up to SYD has been cancelled. So has the identically timed on the same route JQ500, but unlike AVV where JQ500 to SYD (also the 0600 hours) is expected to be delayed by at least 50 minutes in what looks like as fog, MEL does not appear to be fog bound. VA807, the 0630 hours MEL - SYD is also cancelled.

VA811, the 0700 hours MEL to SYD has been amended to become a projected 0727 hours departure while VA813, the 0715 hours northbound becomes an 0805 hours. VA819, the 0800 hours MEL - SYD is estimated to depart at 0916. VA823, the 0830 hours becomes an 0923 hours estimated pushback.

This is quite unusual: is there some other cause such as a power failure or air traffic control mandating new controlled departure times due to network congestion? Some QF and at least one TT flight bound for SYD are also delayed.

VA8 from LAX to BNE (B773ER VH-VPF) is arriving at 0727 hours on Thursday 15 June, 37 minutes tardy.

The 0820 hours SYD arrival from ADL, VA401 has been cancelled as has VA633, the 0905 hours SYD arrival ex CBR.

UPDATE: AFF member Flightstatus advises these delays are due to fog in SYD although as at 0700 hours planes appeared to be still landing and taking off there.
