VA331, the 1400 hours MEL - BNE on Friday 12 May was cancelled, as was the 1715 hours departure, VA869.

Later on 14 May, VA6 from LAX to BNE, the 1115 hours that took off at 1203 on Saturday 13 (B773ER VH-VOZ) should arrive at about 1849, 34 minutes behind time.

As one example of northbound delays, VA905, the 0630 hours SYD - BNE did not take off until 0751. B738 VH-YIF is not expected to arrive until 0907 hours, 67 minutes late.

VA1385, the crosscountry ADL - BNE (VH-YFR) should pull in at roughly 0937 hours, 32 late.

VA313 (0800 hours MEL - BNE) and VA827 (0900 hours MEL - SYD) have both got the flick.

The last email from VA (another delay to outbound BNE/SYD) was the straw that broke my resolve. Trip cancelled and headed back to work.

Was it chance that when I got out of the lift in the parking area that I saw this (notice drivers seat):

In further on Monday 15 May 2017, VA536, the 1705 hours OOL - SYD was in the sky at 1832; arrival of B738 VH-VUA should be at 1947 hours, 72 minutes late.

Tuesday 16 May 2017 has VA726, 0655 early morning OOL down to MEL not having become airborne until 0806; arrival of B738 VH-VUG should be at 1015, 55 minutes late.

Midmorning on Tuesday 16 May, VA833, the 1001 hours (probably retimed from 1000 by ATC) MEL - SYD, B738 VH-VUG) took off at 1059. Suggested arrival is 1215 rather than 1125.

Later on 16 May, VA1106 (1520 hours BNE down to NTL that was airborne at 1544, B738 VH-VBZ) should arrive at about 1705, 25 minutes late due to an extensive number of 'racetrack circuits' (holding) to Newcastle's northwest.

Would anyone know what happened to VA1313 this morning? It's the 6am first flight HBA-MEL and was 4.5 hours late leaving HBA today...

The aircraft was B738 VH-VOS, and was a little early into HBA on Tuesday 16 May at about 2100 hours. The previous VA flight was also punctual so we can probably rule out insufficient crew rest. A failure of the aircraft this morning needing a part to be flown in from MEL, or perhaps a LAME being required to come down from MEL. It could also have been a crew member having gone off sick with no replacement available in HBA, so someone had to fly in from MEL.

I assume that you were not there otherwise you would have politely asked staff (who may or may not tell you.) All up, 4.5 hours is a very significant delay - sufficient for some day return travellers to cancel and go home as from memory AFF moderator straitman may have earlier this week when BNE was fog bound.

No I wasn't there, just noticed it when checking FR24 today and was interested as you are spot on re day trips being cancelled as a result.

Credit where it's due when I do fly from HBA the VA contracted ground crew normally tell you what is happening with the aircraft when delayed or cancelled. I doubt it was crew time, VA have two crews every night in HBA. They rotate in and out on the afternoon flights to and from SYD I think. Maybe it was mechanical. I guess we may never know!

On Friday 19 May, the SYD - MEL VA868 (B738 VH-VUK, the 1715 hours that was not airborne until 1813) should arrive at about 1936, 46 minutes behind schedule.

VA581 (the 1845 hours CBR across to ADL that took off at 2019, B738 VH-VON) should be 80 minutes late upon likely arrival at 2125 hours mid evening.
