Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA633 (peak period 0805 hours CBR - SYD on Monday 2 October that was airborne at 0900 hours, ATR72 VH-FVZ) looks to be arriving at 0952 this morning, 47 late.

In what may be carryover from yesterday's disastrous Optus 'systems glitch' that delayed a few thousand passengers, the Sunday 1 October 2335 hours PER - MEL (VA696) did not take off until 0458 this morning (Monday 2.) Tired passengers should be able to alight from about 1119 hours, 314 minutes behind schedule for aircraft A332 VH-XFJ.

Continuing with Monday 2 October, the subcontracted to Alliance Airlines VA2904 (F70 VH-QQX, the 1040 from property price declining-GLT down to BNE) was airborne at 1113, about 20 - 25 minutes late. Arrival is predicted at 1217 hours, 37 minutes behind schedule.

I wonder what happens when a 1130pm flight gets delayed till 5am. Do they keep the lounge open, move the pax to a hotel or just kick them out into the terminal.

What would have happened if it was SYD and the airport closes?

andyhui01, like you I'd like more information, but 0458 was the takeoff time, so presumably this late VA aircraft departed the PER terminal at about 0445, meaning nominal checkin would have closed at 0415 (although everyone may have been checked in far earlier.)

The aircraft (VH-XFJ, an A332) had arrived in PER at about 2332 last night, about 90 minutes late on VA697 ex MEL, so something subsequently went wrong.

Whatever the treatment of passengers, it would be far from most travellers' favourite time to depart (and have to wait from the scheduled time.)

An 0458 hours takeoff would not normally occur in SYD for a mainline larger capacity passenger aircraft.

Continuing with Monday 2 October, VA679 (again A332 VH-XFJ, the 0915 hours MEL across to PER) did not take off until 1249 early this afternoon. Resultant arrival is likely at 1327 hours, 172 minutes tardy.

In turn, this is predicted to delay VA688, the 1300 hours afternoon PER back to MEL as it will be unable to depart until about 1435 or later.

Some AFF members would say that an A332 with 'The Business' is worth waiting an hour and a half for instead of the not very popular for transcontinental flights single aisle B738s.

VA1164 (the 2 October 1220 hours CFS down to SYD that was pointing skywards at 1322 hours, B738 VH-VFU) should arrive at 1421 hours, 56 minutes late.

The 1240 hours AYQ - SYD (VA1628, B738 VH-VOP) was in the sky at 1337 hours; arrival is suggested at 1756 hours, 46 late.

Later on Monday 2 October, VA1426 (B738 VH-VUZ, the 1705 hours CNS down to SYD) will only just make curfew in SYD. It took off at 1917 and should be at its arrival airport gate at 2255 tonight, 115 minutes late.

The BNE - CHC VA128 with B738 VH-YIS looks to be arriving in the southern Kiwi city at 0157 hours on Tuesday 3 October, 72 minutes behind the timetable.

VA449 (0945 hours BNE - DRW, B738 VH-VOS) was airborne on Tuesday 3 October at 1059; arrival should be at 1442 this afternoon, 52 minutes late.

VA1141 (1415 hours SYD up to increasingly popular BNK, B738 VH-YID) took off at 1528; arrival should be at about 1633 which would be 63 minutes behind the schedule.

The 0935 hours SYD - PER (VA555, A332 VH-XFE) was airborne at 1255 so arrival should be at 1446 in the western capital, 181 minutes behind the timetable. This aircraft is showing as next on VA562, the scheduled mid afternoon 1530 hours back to SYD, which is likely to be slightly delayed in its pushing back. The winds may assist in it picking up time as the timetable calls for a 2240 hours arrival at gate in Sydney, so there's not an enormous amount of leeway - in theory - in the timetable if it is to meet curfew.

VA685, the mid afternoon 1430 hours MEL - PER is expected to depart at 1600 hours on Wednesday 4 October.

VA676, the scheduled 1150 hours arrival in MEL ex MEL came in at about 1430.

Thursday 5 October sees VA735 (1010 hours MEL - OOL, B738 VH-VUQ) not having taken off until 1130, so arrival in the Sunshine State's major holiday destination is anticipated at 1217, 62 minutes tardy.

Friday 6 October sees VA804 (0630 hours SYD down to MEL, B738 VH-YFK) not having become airborne until a very late 0741, so arrival is suggested as 0859 hours, 54 minutes tardy.

The 0700 hours ex SYD VA808 (VH-VOO) took off at 0752; arrival in MEL should be at 0907, 32 minutes behind schedule.

VA304 (0555 hours BNE - MEL, B738 VH-VUP) was in the sky at 0630, about 20 - 25 late, but arrival is not predicted until 0950 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

The 0625 hours CBR - MEL, VA252 had a shocking start to its morning with takeoff at 0900 for ATR72 VH-FVI. There did not appear to have been fog in CBR. This flight is unusual in about half the time being a small ATR with a B738 on other days of the week. Arrival should be at 1020 hours, 150 minutes late.

A heavy storm looks to be about to hit MEL at about 1940 local time on Sunday 8 October 2017.

ATR72 VH-FVI may get caught in it as its VA284 (1800 hours CBR - MEL that was airborne at 1825) is anticipated to arrive at about 1956, 31 minutes late.

VA744, the 1555 hours OOL down to MEL that took off at 1624 with B738 VH-YFX should arrive 31 late at 1951.

VA336 ex BNE should arrive in MEL at 2001 hours, 41 late with B738 VH-YFJ.

The 1800 hours SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1831 (B738 VH-YWA) was holding south of Jamieson, Vic at 1945 hours but is predicted to arrive at 2998 hours, 34 minutes late.

VA238 (1805 hours ADL across to MEL, VH-VUX) was airborne at 1904; arrival should be at 2110 hours, 70 minutes tardy. VA242, the 1905 hours on the same route took off at 1941 with suggested arrival for B738 VH-YFZ at around the 2127 hours mark, 32 late.

On Monday 9 October, VA808, the 0700 hours SYD - MEL (B738 VH-YIB) took off at 0750, so arrival has become an expected 0914 hours, 39 minutes late.

VA810, the 0715 hours, is worse as it did not become airborne until 0806, and therefore will not arrive in MEL until 0935 hours, 45 late with B738 VH-VUX.

VA812, the 0730 hours southbound took off at 0810. VH-VOP should pull in to MEL at around 0935, half an hour late.

B738 VH-VUP on VA816, the 0800 hours SYD - MEL had not begun to push back by 0852 so arrival will be more than 40 minutes late.

In more on 9 October, VA1174 (0805 hours SYD - ABX, ATR72 VH-VPI) took off at 0928. Arrival is suggested as 1047, 77 late. ZL is also similarly late.

VA35 (1225 hours lunchtime SYD - DPS on Monday 10 October, B738 VH-YIZ) did not take off until a very late 1605. Arrival is forecast for 1934 hours, 204 minutes tardy.

VA86 (A332 VH-XFC, the 1950 hours Tuesday 10 October HKG - MEL that was in the sky at 2128 hours) looks to be arriving on Wednesday 11 at about 0920 hours, an hour late.

Later on Wednesday 11 October, VA180 (the 1420 hours early afternoon NAN - SYD that took off at 1609, B738 VH-YIT) should arrive at around 1945 hours, 80 minutes tardy.

B738 VH-VUV on VA427 (1500 hours ADL across to SYD that was in the sky at 1540) looks to be pulling in to its designated gate at approximately 1750, half an hour behind schedule.

VA233 (1635 hours MEL - ADL that took off at 1723, VH-VUK) should arrive at 1809, 39 minutes behind the eight ball. VA238, the return flight arrived MEL at 2032, 37 late.

The 1545 hours mid afternoon NAN - MEL (B738 VH-YIJ, VA184) took off at 1623 so arrival is set for 2119 hours, 44 minutes late.

Colleague VH-VBZ on VA242 is following and should arrive MEL half an hour late at 2125, ex ADL.

Due to the 'orange' (aviation status) of Mt Agung on Bali, flights such as the BNE - DPS VA43, always a B738, are continuing to make fuel stops in DRW. This means an intermediate ground stop of at least 40 minutes but some days have taken a lot longer, perhaps for other reasons.

On Thursday 12 October, VA677, the early morning 0715 hours from MEL across to PER with A332 VH-XFD (not a horrible B738!) did not take off until 0938 hours. Anticipated arrival has become 1021 hours, 106 minutes tardy.

VA1320 (Friday 13 October 1105 hours MEL down to HBA that was in the sky at exactly 1200 'high noon') should arrive at 1259 hours, 39 minutes late.
