Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

B773ER VH-VPH on the LAX - MEL VA24 is arriving on Tuesday 7 November at about 0803, 38 minutes tardy.

Sibling VH-VPF on VA8, the LAX - BNE is an estimated 80 late with arrival suggested at 0725 AEST.

There are two consecutive cancellations on the SYD - BNE route this morning, with VA935 and VA931 (both showing as 1000 hours scheduled departures) getting the flick. VA735 (1020 hours MEL - OOL) is also cancelled.

On Tuesday 7 November 2017, a helicopter crash unfortunately resulting in loss of a life has shut down HBA during the evening with at least one VA flight apparently diverted to LST (although the HBA website suggests that VA1332 from MEL was cancelled):

No Cookies | The Mercury

VA9532 from MEL to LST and VA9533 back to MEL look to be operating in lieu with B738 VH-VUA but as at 2020 hours the former had yet to depart from MEL.

Thursday 8 November's VA808 (0700 hours from SYD down to MEL, B738 VH-VOM) took off at 0752 to the north so arrival will be at about 0911, 36 minutes late.

Later on Thursday 9 November, VA1354 (B738 VH-VUS, the 1330 hours lunchtime DRW down to SYD that took off at 1422) should arrive at roughly 2000 hours, half an hour tardy.

In not a great start to its Friday 10 November 2017, VA211 (B738 Vh-VUV) did not become airborne until 0807 hours, so arrival is expected at 0841 hours, 41 minutes behind the eight ball.

B738 VH-YFZ on VA309 (07090 hours from MEL up to BNE that was in the sky at 0745) should arrive at 0852 hours, 42 late.

A332 VH-XFE on VA676, the very early morning 0520 hours PER - MEL that took off at 0603 should arrive at roughly 1232 hours, 37 minutes late.

docjames, while there are other websites that allow one to go further back as a casual user, I simply had a quick look at FR24, indicating that the northbound flight VA87 was about half an hour late on 4 November, but four subsequent flights have been punctual. The southbound VA86 back down from HKG to MEL has been punctual on all five occasions.

While outside the scope of this thread, I do wonder how much money VA is losing on this route. That may not be unusual for a new route as with most 'public transport' offerings on any mode, travellers (and in airlines' case, agents) have to get to know about it, but it's the longer term prognosis of whether VA will ever find the route profitable that is worrying if one wants Australia's second airline to return a profit to shareholders and a decent return on the huge amounts of capital invested in the airline.

In further on Friday 10 November, VA682 (the 0945 hours PER across to MEL that was in the sky at 1030, A332 VH-XFC) should arrive in the east at 1654, 34 minutes late.

During the later evening of 10 November, ATR72 VH-FVI on the 2035 hours SYD - CBR that was airborne at 2144 should arrive at 2225 hours, 50 late.

Monday 13 November 2017 sees VA164 (0630 hours MEL - AKL that was in the sky at 0741) likely to arrive at 1305 hours, 55 late with B738 VH-YIL.

In further on Monday 13 November, VA827 (B738 VH-VUI, the 0900 hours MEL - SYD that took off at 1000) should arrive at 1109, 44 minutes tardy.

Tuesday 14 November 2017 sees B773ER VH-VPF on VA24 ex LAX arriving in MEL at about 0807 hours, 42 minutes tardy.

Yesterday in and around MEL there were few delays as the predicted thunderstorm activity was very minor. The BOM does not always get it 100 per cent correct.

Continuing with Tuesday 14 November, VA741 (1220 hours lunchtime MEL - OOL) was airborne at 1252; arrival should be at 1353 hours, 28 minutes late. Aircraft is B738 VH-VUU.

VA808 (Thursday 16 November scheduled 0700 hours from SYD down to MEL) did not take off until 0836, with arrival suggested as 0950 hours, 75 minutes tardy.

The 0605 hours ADL across to MEL, VA204 (B738 VH-BZG) is worse as it was not airborne until 0750 hours. Predicted arrival is 0941 hours, 106 minutes late.

VA824 (0900 hours SYD - MEL, B738 VH-YVC) was in the sky at 0951; arrival should be 1105, half an hour behind.

A few posts above docjames asked about VA's performance on the MEL - HKG relatively new route.

On Thursday 16 November, in terms of timekeeping, it isn't great with VA87 (A332 VH-XFC) not becoming airborne until 1225 hours. Expected arrival is 1827 tonight, 52 minutes late but this is a very busy time for this Special Administrative Region's airport, so a further delay may occur.

As noted a few posts back, Mildura (Vic) had more than 54.2 millimetres of rain in the 24 hours to 0900 hours, Thursday 16 November; it has not had any since, but VA1614 (the 1150 hours MQL - MEL, B738 VH-VOT) took off at 1714. Arrival should be at 1818 early this evening, 333 minutes late. I do not know if the airport tarmac was damaged with all the rain.

Later on 16 November with what look to be storm clouds from the north about to descend on MEL, VA184, the mid afternoon 1625 hours from NAN that was airborne at 1658 is arriving via the south at 2032 hours, 32 late. Aircraft is B738 VH-YIG.

VA284 from CBR (B737 VH-VBY, the 1830 hours that did not take off until 1936) should pull in to its MEL allocated gate at 2045, 65 minutes down.

VA878 took off at 1920 from SYD tonight, 50 minutes after scheduled pushback. VH-YVA is the B738 that looks to be arriving at 2049 tonight, 44 late.

The 1805 hours ADL - MEL that pointed skywards at 1856, VA238 (B738 VH-YVC) was held near Dunolly Vic. but should arrive at 2051 this evening, 56 minutes tardy.

The 1700 hours OOL - MEL was held east of Bendigo Vic. with aircraft VH-YIF; arrival should be 35 minutes delayed at 2055, while the 1655 hours BNE - MEL (VA342) that was in the sky at 1729 should pull in to the southern capital at 2058 hours, 53 minutes behind what is called for in the official timetable.
