Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA1371 on Friday 21 December, the 1450 hours LST up to MEL (B738 VH-VOM) took off at 1548. Estimated arrival is 1654 hours, 59 late.

If you're traveling out of Sydney reconsider your need to check anything in! Baggage drop is crazy including priority queue.

Roughly 40-50 minute wait for the priority queue. Standard queue stretches to the other end of the terminal and out the door a long way....

Edit: they're calling for passengers on an Adelaide flight departing in an hour to go to the front of the queue. What the heck for.

In more on 21 December, VA287 (1845 hours early evening MEL - CBR) took off at 2017. VH-YFX is suggested as arriving at 2156, 126 late.

The SYD down to MEL VA878 (VH-YFH, the 1830 hours that was airborne at 1939) was delayed due to a holding pattern over Mt Buller and hence is arriving at 2116 hours, 76 late.

VA882 on the same route (1900 hours ex SYD, lift off at 2019, VH-YVC) was still in a hold as at 2110. Nominally, arrival is suggested as 57 late at 2132 but it may be a little beyond this.

The 1830 hours CBR - MEL (VH-YFG, VA284) was in the sky at 2017 so its arrival should be at 2140, two hours late.

Also on 21 December, VA1538, the 215 hours SYD - HBA with B738 VH-YFY took off at 2314 with arrival suggested as 0053 hours on Saturday 22, 103 late.

VA997, B738 VH-VUU (2100 hours SYD - BNE) had not taken off by 2319.

Sat 22nd of Dec sees a bad delay of the red eye PER-SYD service VA570 (A332 VH-XFH). It has a revised arrival of 10 45, 285 min behind. This means that the leg back, VA555 SYD-PER is now expected to depart at 11 49, over 2 hours behind schedule.

VA572 PER-SYD (B738 VH-YFV) also slightly delayed, with a suggested arrival of 8 35, 85 min tardy.

VA698 PER-MEL (A332 VH-XFC) joins the list of transcon delays. It arrived to gate at 7 41, 101 behind schedule. This has a flow effect on VA811 MEL-SYD 7 00 hours service which is now scheduled for 9 11. This will further affect SYD-NAN 8 30 hours service which now has a revised departure of 12 00 hours. This will obviously also impacat the leg back VA180 NAN-SYD 16 15 hours service, which is now expected to depart at 19 20.

VA36 DPS-SYD (B738 VH-YIM) also left late and is now expected at 9 31, 111 late.

VA2 LAX-SYD (B777 VH-VPD) is once again late, with a hopeful arrival of 10 23, 88 min behind schedule.

VA100 WLG-BNE (B738 VH-YIL) also departed quite late, with a suggested arrival of 10 52, 197 min tardy.

VA1516 TSV-SYD, the 5 50 hours service was cancelled.
VA362 TSV-BNE, 6 05 hours also cancelled. Same with VA1385 ADL-BNE 6 05 hours
VA308 BNE-MEL, 6 55 hours service has the same luck.
VA407 ADL-SYD, the 7 00 hours service was cancelled.
VA1361 LST-MEL, 7 00 hours service joins the cancellation list.
VA913 SYD-BNE 7 30 hours was cancelled.
VA730 OOL-MEL, 8 05 hours service is also cancelled.

Another Saturday 22 December 2018 delay is VA804, the 0630 hours SYD down to MEL that with popular A332 VH-XFE had not taken off by 0943 hours. It had arrived late in SYD at 0902 instead of the scheduled 0815 on transcon VA9916 ex PER.

It is then meant to operate VA679, the 0915 hours MEL - PER that will be hours late, and VA686, the 1205 hours PER back to MEL.

UPDATE: VA804 took off from SYD at 1051, more than four hours late. MEL arrival should be at 1219 hours, 254 minutes tardy.

This will obviously also impact the leg back VA180 NAN-SYD 16 15 hours service, which is now expected to depart at 19 20.....

VA811 managed to take off from MEL at 0919 but SYD (as expected a few days prior to Christmas) is extremely busy so arrival will be at 1035 or later, and the need to get the aircraft across to the international terminal will further delay the flight to NAN.

The 0845 hours MEL - HTI, VA1751 (B738 VH-YFY) took off at 0938 so is expected to arrive at 1118 hours, 33 late.

VA1507 (0935 hours MEL - MCY, VH-VUK) was airborne at 1021 so arrival is delayed until 1125, half an hour behind.

The 0900 hours SYD - MEL VA824 was in the sky at 0953 so VH-YVD should be at its destination gate at 1108, 33 late.

VA1281 (VH-YID, the 0950 hours SYD up to HTI) was airborne at 1040 so arrival is at a predicted 1157 hours, 37 late.

The 0805 hours BNE down to SYD VA924 took off at 0839, about 20 late but a hold near Pokolbin NSW has seen arrival changed to 1113, 33 late.

VA1210 (VH-YFS, the 0835 hours BNE down to CBE that took off at 0931) looks to be arriving at 1201 hours, 36 late.

It was quite a sight to see all 4 available VA A330s on the decks in Perth last night.
Of course the other two plying the skies to Hong Kong...

VA99xx usually indicates a ferry flight, so perhaps they didn't have the cabin crew to operate the flight.

VA181, the 0830 hours SYD - NAN had yet to take off by 1316 hours, though Google says it departed at 1315. Many late family check-ins at resorts tonight!

And many missed cruises out of Sydney if VA's Facebook page is anything to go by. Lots of complaints and still a lot of ongoing disruption.

EDIT: Having looked through VA's 6 A330s and their schedules, assuming there is no further disruption & they have crew available, everything *should* be back to normal from tomorrow morning and delays caught up...though I imagine many passengers will still be inconvenienced.

It hasn't been an easy day for VA as they are trying to go through delays and cancellations from yesterday.

VA1321 HBA-MEL (VH-YFR) arrived at 13 15, 85 tardy. This later formed VA329 MEL-BNE which was airborne at 14 19, arri-ed to gate at 15 10, 60 behind.

VA1614 MQL-MEL (VH-YFH) arrived to gate at 13 07, 57 tardy. Currently operating VA685 MEL-PER with a tentative arrival of 14 38, 38 min late.

VA1458 DRW-MEL (VH-YFG) took off at 9 22, arrived at 14 47, 147 behind. This impacted VA1324 MEL-HBA which recently arrived at 17 07, 157 behind schedule.

VA736 OOL-MEL (VH-VUG) also arrived late at 16 33, 153 min tardy. This aircraft is now operating, VA859 MEL-SYD currently taxing out of Melbourne with a revised departure of 17 32.

VA1325 HBA-MEL (VH-YVD) arrived to gate at 15 30, 60 min late.

VA162 ZQN-SYD (VH-YID) also running late, with suggested arrival at 18 45, 65 min tardy.

VA1628 AYQ-SYD 12 35 hours service cancelled.

And on Saturday 22 November we can further add VA168 (1615 hours AKL - MEL that took off at 1711, B738 VH-YIV) arriving at 1912, 47 late.

VA233 (VH-VUS, the 1640 hours MEL across to ADL) had yet to take off by 1910 hours so is at least 140 minutes tardy.

VA9902, possibly a ferry flight (or Christmas extra?), the 1605 hours ADL to MEL was airborne at 1731 with arrival for VH-YFI at 1916, 81 late.

The 1455 hours midafternoon BNE down to MEL, VH-YFR, took off at 1619 so estimated arrival is about 1928, 73 minutes behind the timetable.

The NTL down to MEL VA1927 is better, as its suggested arrival is 1932, 32 late for VH-YIF.

VA748 from OOL down to MEL should arrive at 2150 tonight, 90 late.

Still on 22 December 2018, VA682, the 0945 hours PER - MEL that took off at a badly late 1425 (A332 VH-XFG) is arriving at 2042 hours, 262 late.

B738 VH-VOO on VA742 (1400 OOL down to MEL, airborne at 1736) is right behind with arrival claimed as 2043, 203 late.

On 23 December 2018, VA1535, the 1635 hours HBA up to SYD was in the sky at 1712. B738 VH-VUG should arrive at 1856, 31 late.

The HTI down to SYD VA1280 (VH-YIB) is far worse with estimated arrival at 1752, 157 late.

Also on 23 December 2018, VA241 (1840 hours MEL - ADL that took off at 1926) should arrive with VH-YID at 2000 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

The 1805 hours early evening BNE down to SYD, VA978 has VH-VBY and was in the air at 1931. Arrival is expected at 2150, 70 late.

Fair call, but as it turned out on Sunday 23 December 2018, VA570, the 2255 hours redeye from PER across to SYD did not push back until 0011 hours on Monday 24. A332 VH-XFH is arriving at 0702 hours, 57 late.

Christmas Day 2018's VA83, the 1015 hours SYD - HKG, departed at 1100 and took off at 1115 with estimated arrival half an hour late at 1705 hours. A332 VH-XFD is the A332.

VA830 has A332 VH-XFE and is the 1000 hours SYD - MEL that took off at 1137. Arrival should be 1246 hours, 71 late.

The 1305 hours lunchtime MEL across to PER (VA685, VH_XFE) took off at 1425 so arrival is delayed until 1521, 61 minutes behind.
