Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

Looks like Perth Airport are taking matters into their own hands.

Trust PER airport to do this, they are a bunch of absolute morons and seem determined to make sure WA has the worst possible relationship with all the major carriers.

A bit bemused by the public statements by RB in the last few days.

Wanting the gov to support with money VA when he didn't.
Wanting the gov to support VA when he previously said the UK gov under no circumstances should support BA when they were in trouble.
Telling the staff he was going to work to save VA only *after they went into administration* and he can't influence the outcome from an independent administrator (unless he stumps up the cash he says he doesn't have and didn't before administration).

Wanting the UK gov to stump up money to save VS when he told them not to save BA
Wanting the gov to stump up money for VS when he didn't
Wanting the UK gov to use taxpayers money for VS when he moved to a tax free haven not to pay UK taxes
You have to know the history to understand why he did not want the UK Gov not to help BA.

I have a feeling after the lien from Perth airport is the first step of breaking this airline up if not completely shut it down for good.. hope I am wrong but I think I am right.. (no inside information)

Also according to AFR and other media reports - VA is owing at least 6.8 Billion dollars... with around 10,000 creditors out there... this is not a good look for a company that is looking for a buyer at this time

The whole "I'm sorry, do you want me to move my vehicle, I'll only be a few minutes" gag...
Been done before...

The Administrators should open up a kitty for people to donate money to help VA fend off or at least defer liquidation, if it comes to that.

Interesting concept... but my question is who would do such a thing with the estimated debt is 6.8 billion dollars...also people will hold on to the money even more during a pandemic... it is human nature to do so...

And even if this scheme is possible... I doubt the money collected is enough to cover this debt

You could say VA already did - it is called the travel bank.

The media seems strongly lined up behind Q. Qantas currently has around 48,000 creditors - everyone who has bought a flight is a creditor! I am surprised that VA has only around 10,000 in total TBH. Their forward bookings must have really dried up since early Februrary given 5/6th of their ticket sales by volume is domestic.

Is my memory failing me or do both QFF and VPs have a zero cash value according to the T&Cs? If not then both Q & VA have millions of creditors.

OH NO ! o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

There's the headlines for the Saturday papers, VA has over 9 million creditors.....

Not to cover all of it, but at least do it a dent in the debt or something.
If there are 10m VFF members, just think how much $10 can make.
Small fry, of cash, I do agree.
I never quibbled about the AN staff entitlements recovery levy, (yes, I do realise in the end the funds from it went to consolidated revenue), at that time, I was a member of the GlobalRewards system already.
If VA is liquidated, I would not quibble about a levy for VA staff entitlements if it came to that.
A levy to recover all encompassing Covid19 Aust govt expenses, as a whole, now that is what I disagree with.
OT: dole bludgers getting $750 and more, eugh.
Edit: but Travelbank is from bookings/in regard to it.
My idea is more so to pay off part of their debt.

I wasn’t thinking about the levy... I was thinking about open donations before complete collapse... whether it will work, and how people will feel... especially this time is different to Ansett... now, almost everyone is out of work at the moment

In the Ansett collapse, the majority of Australians that could work are working for a wage, but not this time sadly due to the pandemic

There’s only one (relevant) photo and it’s of a bulldozer in front* of the aircraft.

The aircraft is parked at a gate with the aerobridge connected.

If that plane is going anywhere, it’s certainly not forwards into the terminal.

Maybe the bulldozer driver misunderstood the memo.

*to be fair, it is preventing a push back, but we shouldn’t let the truth get in the way.

It's so a tug can't be connected to push the aircraft back to depart.
