Out of interest, given what from media reports seemed to be the controversy she had in her time at A2 Milk, why does Bain apparently think highly of her?

I think it is because she was the former Jetstar chief. Apart from that fact, i have no idea what else Bain sees in her.

Yep. Based on the low regard some people clearly have for the“greedy union members staff” who are safely getting them from A to B, I think we can see why the unions are a critical part of the process.

Two groups (cabin crew and engineers) are happy with Cyrus however the other large group is not taking a side either way and will work alongside whoever comes through and won’t jeopardize that by picking winners ahead of time. Thus far, all unions have been generous to and supportive of management and the administration process and many concessions have been made to help ensure the financial viability of the carrier.

As one of the top 3 of the ACTU told me in the early 1990s, 'Only paid-up union members get a vote, if they're laid off or unemployed they cannpot vote. Guess who we worry about?'

About 'strong-armed' into joining - one place I worked at was 'no card no start'. I suppose I could have chosen to be unemployed....

The concessions that many unions have made during COVID have been plentiful and reasonable, leading to all the talk of a "new accord", but AFF's the natural home of the boomer liberalism set, so it's not that surprising to see contempt for the filthy riff raff flying planes, loading bags, emptying toilets and moaning about "conditions"

Wasn't Bain strongly involved with setting up Jetstar in the first place? I seem to recall that Jane started her career in Bain so there might be a longstanding relationship there betwwen the company and the person.

Sorry - I didn't realize that there was some "statute of limitations" about history, peoples experiences or facts?

So something that happened 21 years ago is irrelevant, but something that happened 19 years ago is still relevant? There was a dot com boom in 1999 so apparently that's relevant to history, but the Asian Financial Crisis and/or transfer of power in Hong Kong in 1997 is now irrelevant? Thanks for clearing that up.

So you haven't seen the anti bullying ad where a Union Official tells a subcontractor that he can't work without a ticket?Certainly has screened within the last 12 months-sorry Google didn't come up with it.

But google did come up with the first case against a Union under the ALP's Anti bullying law of 2013 which came into effect on 1/1/2014.Posted as there is a name of a company official in the body of the report who is trending on this thread.

Edit: Will add that most unions in Australian aviation are also professional associations. Members contribute to things like advocating for the 1:36 rule, ensuring there's an FA at every door and exercising better control of passenger evacuations, and international regulations, like simple fuel radiotelephony, to avert fuel exhaustion accidents, and collision avoidance procedures, to make sure Lake Constance never happens again. But 1989, right?

Yes, daughter had similar experience 3 years ago.

But back OT - VA has been hitting the servers today with emails about 320 extra flights a week. Offers of bonus CC credits if spend a certain amount by late July, 'double-dip' on Velocity store. They really seem to be trying to increase cash flow any way they can as the binding bid deadline approaches. The earliest series of emails we received today was $250 flights to/from NZ from mid-July.

Or is it the mythical $19 Jetstar sale that prompted them. Tried multiple times to book the $19 seats (screenshot record for ACCC to follow-up) and each time it got to payment the cost doubled. So started again, still showing '4 seats left' at $19 that is - identical to screenshot 8 minutes earlier, & same doubling to $38 per seat when final payment required + taxes & fees of course.

In splendid isolation in Perth and finally its looking like travel to the NT Darwin for the rest of the dry season without 2 weeks locked up is going to happen. by the time I want to return to WA in September they will surely have opened borders as well. After all WA and NT have had the best lockdown in all this.
Virgin doesn't look like getting its act together by 17 July and actually have Perth-Darwin flights (not going via Brisbane or Sydney at great expense) so for the first time in a very long time looks like its Q...horror!
