Virgin Australia flights to Doha now on sale

Some very sharp prices on Business seats from SYD, MEL, BNE to LHR right now :)

The screenshot is an example ex MEL

For some reason, these aren't showing on Google Flights.

That's one way. Return is often more expensive as well. Pretty average prices imo.

4.4k one way in business on QR? I haven't seen it that low, and I've bought a few of these seats over the years.

Have you seen it lower than this on QR metal?

edit: booking this same flight on the Qatar website is over 8.2k.

Etihad for the same date is over 5.4k, and Singapore Airlines over 7k, as a comparison.

I'd never purchase international one way cash fares — always terrible prices — but if that's what you do, I guess it is an okay price.

If you don't have enough points to redeem return airfares then you purchase a one-way airfare.

For example, my partner and myself have enough points for us to go to the UK oneway in business. So we will purchase flights oneway (though most likely economy) and use the points for the return in business.

Each to their own, but at that point you're losing a fair chunk of the value of the points redemption because you're overpaying for the one way cash ticket.

Not at all.

One way economy is about $1,100 and a return in economy is about $2,100. So for $100 I'd sooner use the points and fly business class one way and pay for economy one way :)

Think you will find this is actually more common that what you may think.

Even on those figures, you're paying 10% more. But glad it works for you.

Depending on the premium you have to pay for 2 x one-ways in Y and with the good J prices above, there may not be much difference in $ by purchasing 1 x return J with $ and 1 x return J points.
Edit... just read your later post, not much premium there for one-way

In cash terms:
Return in business $9,000 approx
Return in economy $2,100 approx
Oneway economy paid $1,100 and points return in business is $1,000 for taxes. So for $2,100 get oneway economy and oneway business.

We're getting married overseas. Hence, flying one-way in economy is seen as a cost effective approach, whilst still treating ourselves :).

But to put this to bed, sometimes there are reasons for buying one-way international fares.

Similar to what I am doing with my partner, we are paying for business to London, and we have enough points to book the return in business, also.
With this deal, we'll end up getting business in both directions, after taxes for a total cost of ~$5300 each (J cash fare to London ~$4400, J points fare taxes for the return ~$900 = $5300)
Each to their own, but for us, that is a bargain for 2 X ~24 hour flights in business.
Many of my friends & family often book Economy one way, and Business on points the other way, so always end up booking 1 way because of this.
They'd rather save enough points to treat themselves Business and cash fares for Economy.

Yep, do it often especially between Asia and Europe or the ME. Just booked one last week where return was $3800 for the dates I wanted but managed to get one way for $1200 and will book the other way with a different airline using points or even revenue if something pops up
