Virgin Australia flights to Doha now on sale

It looks like lounge access will match access for QR tickets (ie Business class will give you business lounges in Doha) Qatar Airways lounge

Will anything at all look different compared to Qatar flights?
- Lounges in Doha - same
- Lounges in Australia - same
- Menus - same?
- Food - same?
- Crew + uniform - same?
- Plane - same
- flight number - different :)
- amenity kits - same ?
- check-in counters in Australia - VA?
- check-in counters in Doha - VA?

I'm surprised Qatar don't use a better lounge at Melbourne

MEL is the outlier not using NZ, I’m guessing must be capacity restraints in the NZ lounge at the QR flight times

It just surprises me when everything about their business class ooze's luxurious, but they use a sub standard lounge in Melbourne.
I don't think the NZ is great either (well the last time I went, which admittedly was a few years ago). Where else do you propose they send them? Maybe the ex EY one? I haven't been there since it became The House

I really like the MEL NZ lounge. It never feels cramped and always have no problems finding seats. The food is generally fairly decent and beverage selection good. Great coffee too. I prefer it to the SQ lounge if flying out on Star Alliance flights but YMMV

The House would seem like a good option if Air NZ is not available.

I found this link on the Trade Portal section of the QR website:
Seat selection for Virgin Australia flights
I contacted Qatar today via chat and they were able to assign seats.

They did say they could select seating on row 35, being exit row. However, after selection it was auto-rejected.

Hopefully this improves closer to the time. But at least seats are selected.

Good stuff. Just wanted to confirm - are you booked on a regular VA/QR codeshare, or one of the new VA1-29 services which are 'operated by Qatar Airways'?

This week I booked 4 x VA Y rewards seats from DUB to MEL via DOH. The second leg is on the new VA wet-lease service VA8. Upon booking I received the QR reservation code and added it as a trip on the QR app. For the QR leg DUB-DOH I can make a meal request (for the kids) and pay to reserve a seat. For the VA leg there is no option to do anything, instead the instruction is to contact VA. The flights aren't for 11 months so I'm not going to do anything at this stage and hope that it becomes easier to manage the booking as we get closer to the launch of services in June.
