Virgin Australia just does not feel 'Special' anymore

Just overheard a new Virgin "joke". CSM doing the welcome on board, when the pilot came on said "your in the front row, just on the left, thanks".

I've heard the captain walk onboard after doing his walk around the aircraft and say "Window Seat Please"

Josh I am again with you.You made a simple observation and have been jumped upon again.People should stalk your profile just like they do for Lawlass.:p
I know you earnt your Velocity gold by having your BIS.Not comped like many others.
And I felt the same on my last DJ flight 2 weeks ago.Nothing wrong with the flight.Very professional. But nothing I will remember about it.A few crying babies.Previously a DJ FA would try and help. This time after the trolley run had finished they did a JQ except they congregated in the rear to have their chats.
Then at checkin, now I am and always will be I feel a lowly red member, but previously when I couldn't get my Velocity number in the booking(because I am Ron in velocity but Ronald on my ID) the GA has fixed it.This time-sorry you made a mistake with your booking you will just have to put in a claim for the missing points.Just abrupt.
Funny but I now dont think much difference to the service I get on DJ V JQ.Just my experience limited as it is.

FYI. On Virgin, they are call a CS (Crew Supervisor)

I wondered how long it'd take. Truth be told, I have no idea who is who in the crew, besides the 2 people who go through the front door probably have something to do with the flying aspects of the aircraft.

I just used CSM in a generic way as it seemed easier than "the staff member greeting people as they board". Sorry for any confusion.

My experience this year has been particularly good as far as feeling "special" is concerned.

I have been op'd up to business on a saver fare to Perth.

Op'd up to exit row seats again on saver fares.

Being able to select row 7J and K seats on the A330 on saver fares with the family in tow.

Just about always been greated upon stepping the plane with " Welcome back Mr......"

Lounge angels in Sydney and Perth always very accomodating with change of seat request's.

Flight changes (at no cost) at check in has never been a problem even when I turned up 10 mins before take off.

All this as a Silver and lounge member.

Can't wait to be a gold member in 2 1/2 weeks.

Sorry to be controversial, but I liked the old Virgin style. I didn't fly them very often but when I did it was refreshing to have a different experience and I was never offended by the banter.

And I also like the new Virgin style. Both the plane (new 737-800) and the cabin staff were efficient and pleasant to interact with. Boarding and deplaning were done quickly and we left and arrived on time.

Best of all - around half the price of the equivalent Qantas service. Hard to beat that value.

Don't forget DJ are in transition, the silly banter has been removed but the crew are still finding their feet with being swish and premium. It just takes time for people to find a new way to make people feel special. In the past they were overly familiar and they are having to step back and also learn new ropes. Give it another 12 months when the new products have been in place for some time and the learning curve is over. The individual touch will return.

If the CS is female they have the brown pants - if male I think their tie is a different colour?

Not sure about the brown pants - The female CS scarf is lilac, as well as the male CS' tie.

The only CSM I knew was either a Company Sergeant Major or Chief Stipendiary Magistrate.

I have been involved with the former but never the latter.

Both incorrect. The CS, is the one with the grey rather than purple badge. Although the male CS' also have a darker tie colour than male crew.

Ah, yes. You are right about the male tie colour. It's a darker purple IIRC. But there is definatly some lilac in the women's scarf.

Seems a few people are under the mistaken impression that I look at details. :p To further complicate matters the person greeting (male) did not do the announcements. Instead a female staff member did those. However, by the way the guy seemed to be instructing her on the announcements and had to remind her to turn the L2A back on after the safety brief, I assume he was the CS.

I've heard of those. I was more involved with SSMs

Sorry, it's actually 'Cabin Supervisor'! I'd personally prefer something a bit more customer focused, like CSM, but of course this is all pretty trivial......

Has anyone noticed the subtle differences in the new ground staff uniforms? The women's scarves are a different pattern and the men wear red ties instead of purple. Very reminiscent of the QF male supervisor uniform when worn sans jacket, especially paired with the charcoal coloured pants.....

I quite like traditional airline staff titles which were originally derived from the crew of grand ocean liners - gives a bit of old world magic to the experience of flying IMO.

Flying is magic, and anything that can emphasise this is great.
