Virgin Australia "Milestone Announcement" June 1, 2023

Interesting read, love the Fly for Fewer points option and Additional Reward Seat availability, but I personally won’t be losing sleep over the 1 Point Rewards 🤷‍♂️

Velocity Frequent Flyer seems to have taken on the feedback about the word Velocity not literally meaning fast, and has this to say on the subject:

Velocity Frequent Flyer said:
Side note: we know the word Velocity doesn’t actually mean fast – it means the directional speed of an object in motion as an indication of its rate of change in position as observed from a particular frame of reference and as measured by a particular standard of time. But it’s pretty close… and we’re really serious about being fast.

Fixed it for them - It's the observer's frame of reference.
Is there more than one standard of time? Do we all just use SI?

The second (s or sec) is the International System of Units (SI) unit of time measurement. One second is the time that elapses during 9,192,631,770 (or 9.192631770 x 109 in decimal form) cycles of the radiation produced by the transition between two levels of the cesium-133 atom.

Got the email from Velocity today… 1 point rewards… says ‘log into the Rewards Store’.

The problem is that there doesn’t seem to be an actual rewards store?? Not easily findable like KrisShopping or Qantas store.

The only ones who will ever get these '1 point rewards' will be the ones smart enough to set-up the inventory/stock bots using code that runs 24/7 pinging the VFF website. For all others, easier just to refer to them as 'No Point' Rewards.

Heh heh heh... nowt about life time status and any plus for us, except "less points for redemptions" of seats, 3 levels instead of 5 for Aust dom flights.
Starting at 6800 points, tax and chargers are extra, probably have to be paid in extra points or visa credit/debit card with a transaction (credit card) fee attached.

Aka "guaranteed award seat allocations for Gold, platinum and beyond increase in cost by 27%"

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

It blew up on social media as well, seems Australians are more familiar with the actual definition of the word Velocity than Virgin expected 😉.

Best response/retorts to Virgin’s announcement I saw online was these two:

“If Virgin thinks Velocity means faster, then what do you (Virgin) think Virgin means? Please explain”

“Ok….Virgin means stupid”

😂

What doesn't blow up on social media?

Hardly a place of reference or any relevance.

Did you see my fed Sq post? Many ppl def wouldn't know what velocity exactly means, but everybody knows what a square looks like. And so what.

QF spirit of Australia, hardly. What is the spirit of Australia even?

It's all marketing hoopla.

Yes… but there’s a difference between something being a ‘stretch’ and something being ‘wrong’ :D

‘spirit of australia’ captures the imagination. Saying velocity means ‘fast’ questions the facts!

This one is brilliant.

VA2 PR should jump on this and own the mistake with a witty response to this! (G rated of course!)

I was going to answer it on here but don't want to risk a moderator sanction ;)
