Virgin Australia orders 8 Embraer E190-E2 jets for delivery from 2025

I guess it makes sense given the F100s are no longer around to compete against. But it does give you a little scary feeling of dejavu...

It would be nice to see them return these on the MEL-MQL route, which they promised to do after Covid looking at the ACCC application, but with an agreement via Alliance (wet-lease) that never happened.
Either way, these are purely for VARA in WA by the looks for FIFO.
It is certainly a much-needed upgrade from the F100's.

if someone could be a historian for just a sec, when and why did VA got rid of its ERJs? I think I read somewhere that they brought in Fokker for Skywest to replace the ERJ they sold so it definitely looks like a deja vu moment 😂

Surprising they haven't considered the Alliance model on 10yr old plus units.

VA had a couple of problems with the previous E190s. One of those was the leasing terms, but in addition they seemed to have engineering/reliability issues that other airlines didn't have.

I recall some clients wanted newer aircraft did they not? To hit sustainability targets?

Perhaps they are happy to also pay an increase in bills that are associated with that.

I note the WA support in the press release also. I wonder if they are somewhat offering some form of $$ or assistance.

Relatively easy to find out under FOI re WA Gov funding.

Didn't read to me as anything specific to these aircraft, just a comment re how they support regional aviation generally (Capped fares and the like)

Would assume they are all-Economy and are very much based/living in WA. I'd assume they are the same RPT routes the F100s/A320s are doing now, so basically a return of the E190, this time the E2s, to ADL-PER.

Now the next question, will they install J!
Nope, considering the mention of Virgin Australia Regional in the Embraer press release suggests they are all-Y layout. They may replace some A320 "hellships" RPT runs though.
