At least the DJ menu sounds more appetising than this suggestion from the Virgin America menu-

Now that really does sound revolting!.

That does sound revolting! I must say though that I've flown VX 4 times now, and have had outstanding food on each flight. Mind you, they were in F....

Yeah I picked that one because the idea of apricots and honey on a sandwich turns me right off,ok for breakfast with muesli though, the other sandwiches like Turkey and Brie,Beef with roast tomato etc offered on V America sound a lot better though,I think the new DJ menu sounds quite good,I'll wait and try it myself before judging it.

I asked one of my cabin crew friends about the new menu and he said one flight with over 100 passengers had 6 pies onboard which were happily eaten by the passengers in premium economy.

His other comment was the passengers aren't happy about having bundy and pepsi.

Mrs M likes a bundy and Coke on a frequent basis and the day she consumes a bundy and pepsi is the day hell freezes over.

I can pretty much guarantee if she has this drink at pubs then she has already had a Bundy and Pepsi ;)

Pepsi-Schweppes have a large share of licensed in Australia, the post mix guns dispense Pepsi and anyone asking for a Coke, straight or mixed gets Pepsi. And with alcohol it's almost impossible to tell the difference.

I Was sitting in the MEL Lounge where all the Sydney flights were delayed 45mins.... Overhead VB desk staff calling passengers to see how far away they were so that VB could change them to an earlier flight.... Well done VB... Great service and staff thinking about pax... Very impressed...

Similar issues with SYD delays for me, except connecting to WLG leaves very few options - so I'm off through BNE arriving tonight. Great service by the team at CBR - both the lounge and the checkin supervisor who pulled out all stops to get our bags off the SYD flight 10 mins before departure.

I am booked in PE on the return flight from SYD to MEL tonight and received a call fom VB ton explain that the aircraft assigned to that flight tonight doesnt have a PE action. The seat next to me would be blocked but it wouldn't be the red seatsnwith extra leg room... They offered and in accepted a change to an earlier flight... Well done VB on picking that up and calling me early to give me the option...

BTW... Was booked on 5:15, changed to 4:45 with PE... Arrived at the airport and the flight I'd delayed till 5:45... Sydney airport, you've done it again... To the Lounge... Asahi please.... More time for a beer or 3....

Sounds like DJ is reading posts on their product in AFF and reacting to any previous criticisms.
This is a pretty good idea because even though it is about a year since my last DJ flight I think a lot of us are watching.

crazydave98 has stated as much.

$15 for a pie and beer?
The pricing on the new menu looks to be over the top. They would need to serve at least a longneck to make that deal worthwhile.

Just as well I do not drink anymore and I can do without food on short sectors but $12 for luggage and no lounge access at the airport and DJ is a little too expensive for my tastes.

I can understand how it may suit some people but I am not a big fan of add-on pricing. I would much rather prefer an all inclusive airfare but it would appear that DJ simply cannot match QF in this category....

It would appear that DJ CHOOSE to use an alternative business model and are not out to "match" QF. I'm sure DJ could offer an all inclusive airfare if they wanted to at a higher price, but seems they prefer to offer choices.

One would hope that you could bundle a meal, just like you can bundle luggage.

For mine, they look like much better offerings than they had. What matters to me is how the total cost compares across airlines. Often pre-bundled is the cheaper option, but I always check! Flying to Perth I am likely to want a meal on the flight. Of course, if it turns out that the hot options run out before they get to me (e.g. they use all the pies up in the PE section), then I would factor that issue into the decision making

I have attached a link to a recent JB interview on the Sky Business show Switzer.

I found the whole interview interesting, however it was interesting to hear his reaction when quizzed on the new name. He appears to suggest that 2 names are in order, without completely ruling out 1. However my gut feeling is that it is 1, namely Virgin Australia, and that he is trying to throw people off the scent. It'd be interesting to hear other take on this.

He also goes into the EY, NZ and DL deals, new lounges and the different way price rises due to oil hikes are passed onto customers between the domestic and international network.

Given JB rose to his position from the QF mailroom, he is clearly a man with strategic smarts and foresight. I feel this interview reinforced this view, so well worth a watch.

One of my Cabin Crew friends said on a flight the other day only 6 pies were loaded and they went to the Premium passengers. Until they load alot more food it sounds like a meal bundle can't be part of the plan. Although an idea would be to look at how many have pre-paid for food and load accordingly.

At the end of each flight the CS (Crew Supervisor) of that flight looks at the un-sold food, and based on that orders more food for the next flight. She must have only ordered a small ammount of food. Her reasons for that? We'll never know..

I've been on flights on Virgin where there has been too much food (One CS ordered 600 plastic cups) to barley enough food.

The cs does not order food. They only ordeer amenity items. The amount of food loaded into flights is controlled by the company.

A great interview. J.B. proves he is the best thing to take DJ into comp with QF, but still annoying with the "Serial" style launch of new name, and livery.
But, as he says " we'll know before the end of this F/Y.

Cheers Dee
