Finally we can confirm that on the morning of Wednesday 4th May 2011 we will unveil the new face of the Virgin Blue Group of Airlines.

Exciting times! :D

Apparently it's a 'media-only call' according to the invitation, including 'broadcast media only' for the 9am touchdown of the first Virgin Australia flight.

Wonder if anyone can camp outside, shoot video of the VA arrival and upload to YouTube?

I've just noticed something with the V Australia booking engine when looking at flights Sydney to London ... there's a domestic flight down to MEL to connect to Etihad metal, and where it would usually say 'Operated by Virgin Blue' it's now saying 'Operated by Virgin Australia'. Wasn't saying that yesterday. ;)

Already fixed as at 3:48pm.

LOL! Run up Photoshop, fire up the colour printing and head down to Officeworks to get your fake card laminated, job's done!

I know a guy who writes a travel blog so I asked him about this press conference. He didn't get an invitation so he called DJ PR and asked, they said "No, it's invitation only, accredited media only", apparently it's not even being held in the main part of the domestic airport itself (I thought they might do it The Lounge?) but at the 'general aviation section'.

Seems like blogs are not 'accredited media', maybe you have to have a special Press pass sticking out of your hat like in the old movies? :p

Notice the use of the singular - ". . . new face . . ."

Don't even need to head to officeworks, have a laminator on hand!

You mean my fake New York Times ID won't get me in? Damn.

Two more? I can barely think of a port with a decent amount of flights to make it worth it? Cairns?

Perhaps they are headed for International ports? SYD Int or perhaps LAX? (T3 is a joke).

Can't wait to see the new livery! Not really.

Good to see that the wait will be over on 4 May. Not that I have lost any sleep waiting mind you.

The only announcement that will interest me is that Virgin will have a new economy product that is better and cheaper than QF.

Oh and joining an alliance. Preferably Skyteam....

Yes! SkyTeam please, and drag NZ with them. Although VA could fit in with *A, I think VA would work much better with current ST members, ST seems to be the alliance that gives it's airlines more opportunity and their members work very well with each other compared to OW & *A. AF/KL & DL work very well with each other as an example.

This would benefit those that got status match with KLM/AF?

I highly doubt they'll be part of any alliance. They are just going to be partners with a group of different airlines around the globe.

Ugh! No way! I'd rather they remain independent than join ScaryTeam! Much as I'd love to use my newly minted Flying Blue status other than to match it back to *A or OW status at some stage, I'd rather not have to fly any Scary airlines. I think bilateral agreements are working out quite well for Virgin, Alaskan Airlines stylie. The costs of joining an alliance are enormous and may just outweigh any advantages of doing so for smaller airlines like Virgin and Alaskan.
