Has anyone heard anything more about the Virgin Lounge opening in Darwin? I notice that Virgin mentioned it back in January last year when they commenced SYD-DRW flights, but nothing more has been said on the subject.

As you probably already know, the Virgin Lounge in DRW is supposed to be in the new Terminal expansion, which I didn't see any sign of when I was there last month. Reportedly, the Terminal expansion is now supposed to start this year with the Eastern end finishing 'early 2014' and Western End finishing end of 2014. Not sure which end the Virgin Lounge was supposed to be in. However, as usual, these dates have constantly been pushed back so who knows when it'll be done. Maybe 2015? Sorry I can't post the link of this information-not enough posts ;(

I was there last week and not even a builders crack to indicate something being started.

Construction has commenced on the Terminal Extension with the Virgin Lounge reportedly due to open in the 2nd half of 2014.

I should be travelling to/from DRW in June 2014. Seeing as how there's no new information, that may be a bit early for any lounge opening. :(

Watpac's mechanical service contractor (aircon - ventilation etc) Siganto & Stacey, on the Darwin Airport project went belly up last week - you would expect that to have some impact on things ....

Siganto's have been around since 1968 and were a tier one sub-contractor with many major projects under their belt for decades ....... Just another marker of state of affairs in the contracting world.

Was there last month, at the start of may half the concourse was blocked off (making it incredibly crowded near gates 1-4 and the QF club,,, then when we flew back from alice and gove, there was new carpet etc, and the expansion areas had wiring roughed in ready to be fitted off,,, when we flew back out 2 weeks ago i asked the checkin staff when the lounge was opening, she told me august. told her i was surprised there wasnt one there earlier, as with hobart, hate flying in J and no lounge. Love the new cafe there in darwin, fantastic club sandwich, very busy.

Check in staff told me that they have been told it's opening in January 2015.

Gotta feel sorry for Hobart. Back to 2016 yet?

I am glad Darwin is first off the rank for between those two.
It is a lot more pleasant to sit with the rest of the zoo in Hobart than in Darwin, especially at this time of year that is for sure.

Unfortunately have to go there next week sans lounge - the heat is unbearable in that airport :-(

Hi Nexus. How long since you were last in Darwin? I find the Terminal is now cooler than it was - Or perhaps I have been in Darwin too long and have become acclimatised.:)

Usually there once every three months, in winter it is okayish and depends how full the airport is as to how hot it gets in there I guess.
Lets hope you are correct and they have sorted out the AC to cope with the load ... either way I am happy to see that this will be the last time I have to worry about no lounge which is a good thing
