Oh wow thinks are heading south faster than we thought :(

Funny you mention that as only yesterday I was mulling over the latest JQ sale and my thought process went something like "at least on JQ I can buy something half substantial, like a pie or sausage roll, on VA they seem to make a big deal of a pie dressed up as something unique, but only for special occasions".

I remember when getting a wholesome crusty pie with bush tomato relish on VA was a big deal... both in the old domestic Premium Economy as well as the succeeding Business Class. IIRC it seemed to go down OK with a beer.

This was also in the days when VA introduced banana bread in the buy on board menu; supposedly this was a welcome addition to the menu, though unsure how successful it was in sales.

I'm sure it did! I always seemed to miss out. I seem to recall it being offered also in whY and started out as an option on flights over 2 hours, which they must have decided was a PITA, so it changed to flights over 3 hours, but for some time now I've heard nothing about it. A pie requires heating and we can't have that can we? Even JQ can manage to work the ovens.

In the OOL lounge for lunch today

Hokkien noodles with beef strips, little corn thingies and sesame.

Very tasty

Same in MEL tonight along with spicy pumpkin soup and fried rice.

Last time I was in the VA lounge I had the most appalling pasta. It was green, looked like it should have been a creamy pesto, but was almost completely flavourless and hideously overcooked to boot. I made myself a toasted sandwich instead. :P

Both BNE and MEL lounges carried a Rose from St Hallett, as well as bubbles from France. I have never heard of the house or brand before; now that I think about it, I should have read where in France it came from.

When I was in the MEL lounge for lunch, they had Vietnamese superfood soup and sesame noodles. The former was a bit like a uni meal, i.e. raid fridge and throw together, and not particularly tasty. The latter was pretty ordinary at best with gloppy (starchy sauce)... no idea why anyone would want to add any of the provided sweet chilli or kecap manis to this dish!

Didn't get one :(. Apparently it was to celebrate Mel-lax. They had shrimp chowder and burgers.

wasnt bad at all. I'd much rather burgers than the pasta they always serve. If only they had some hot chips to go with the burgers

Chicken tortillas with cheese, avocado and sour cream at OOL lounge tonight. Too spicy.

The avocado and sour cream with bread rolls were really nice.

Bloody delicious huge Darryl Lea jaffas at the lounge at the moment.... Though I've been on a diet for a month so anything will taste nice. .. it's at the coffee bar. MEL.

They had these in the SYD lounge as well on Tuesday, next to the Nespresso bar that was set up in the corner (opposite the end of the main food/beverage counter in the downstairs area).
