Ah. Makes sense.

But in all serious, this is exciting! Finally more food options in the lounge!

Technically it's the second half of the year, right? Right?

While it feels like the dogs have been around forever. The menu has changed in the last 2 years. I actually liked the previous curries that seem to have disappeared.

I also liked the curries...just the thing to go with the rice

Hot dogs gone from the Sydney lounge tonight ... replaced with something resembling fried rice. With sweet chilli sauce it was edible.

Hot Dogs in the MEL Lounge last night were a hit. The place was packed and I swear every second person had one in their hands.

I was in the BNE Lounge for several hours last night. There were a couple of salads I hadnt seen before (a rice salad - the rice was a bit undercooked and crunchy and an asian noodle salad) and the hot dish was fried rice.

I am also very sick of the same food over and over again for years. Surely some little quiches or mini-wraps or something would not be very expensive to make but would be great for some variety?

I actually really enjoyed the hot-dogs the first few times, it's the fact that we now seem to get nothing *but* hot-dogs that gets me. I'm sure if they rotated them with other options and they weren't the only meal option I'm sure they'd go back to being enjoyable again. Variety is definitely the key.

Why does sydney and melbourne have the pork offerings and brisbane constantly gets the same ham, cheese and tomato dealio ?
This makes me sad inside

My last two flights out of BNE (both within the last fortnight) have had the pork and that yummy sauce that goes with it (sorry forgotten the name). Some rice paper would go down well with that though!

The breakfast offerings in the MEL lounge were fairly meagre last weekend - it's good that there are a range of breads and the hot dog machine but the cold options continue to diminish - only boiled eggs and ham with tinned fruit and natural yoghurt (which is admittedly v nice). I miss the mini muffins and little granola glasses.

Surely you could provide some pastries, small croissants etc?

I'm not a VA lounge regular unlike most here but overall I think the lounge food is woeful (hot dogs !!! ) and the wine selection's not great either.
I'm comparing them to the QF J Lounges. Admittedly not an entirely fair comparison but this is the alternative lounge on the alternative carrier for a Plat in the major airports.

Melbourne Lounge tonight - usual hotdogs. Seemed to be little chicken meatballs to put into pita with tabbouleh and a sauce. Seemed to be new nut mix which was good. Was surprised to see an attendant bringing around big trays of fresh sausage rolls which were good.

Sydney Lounge this morning - usual eggs, ham, cheese, tinned fruit, yoghurt and fresh apples. Would love to see some variety for a pick up and run option like a muffin, pastry or muesli bar as you fly through and grab a coffee at 6am.

Yep that is exactly what I compare it to

As someone that flys MEL/CBR/SYD mainly the VA lounge offering when compared to the QF J lounge offering is not even worth thinking about

I think that'd be the felafel balls (vegetarian). Quite tasty too (hell anything's better than the damn hot dogs; last time I was there, no one was even touching the hot dogs and the lounge was heaving).

... not sure the wine selection is that great in the QF J lounges either.

Having posted that, it costs less generally to travel VA; I saved $40 on a MEL - BNE return this week.

As a WP, I was able to select front row economy which I can't do on Qantas without the T-80 shuffle.

I don't check luggage, but if needed I wouldn't need to pay more as a WP.

So, even if the lounge catering differences are taken into account, for me, VA is generally the better option domestically.

In the syd lounge Tuesday night, I enjoyed Peroni draft beer. Both full strength and light varieties on tap.
