Virgin Money Flyer and High Flyer points earn reduction

So let me get this right... we're going to lost the 2-for-1 deal from 1 April, but won't get the $129 gift voucher until a nebulous "mid-2016"? Being Citibank linked, what are the chances it will just not materialise eh?

Rep told me both occur on April Fools Day

I called yesterday to cancel my HF card - have had the card for about 4 years I guess.

Got through to resolutions who spent the next 15 minutes trying to convince me to stay and outlined just how rewarding the card really is. I had to insist no less than four times that I just wanted to cancel before she processed it.

The operator was insitent on having me not cancel but failed to offer anything to keep me a member. Card cancelled. Hopefully others do to. The biggest benefit of that card was the 1.25:1 points. With the reduction in points the card is never going to be worth the annual fee they're charging.

As a data point, I was offered fee free for the next year and either 5k or 10k Velocity points (I can't remember which) and that was just a couple of months ago. Just keep an eye on that cancellation as it just might not happen (as I've found out).

So, is there a competitive VISA or MASTERCARD offering points accumulation to VFF?

My exact experience... Cancelled yesterday..discussed fee waiving, offered 2k points and when I said no they said not even if its 5k ? for $289 annual fee plus supp card holder fees it is very poor value IMO..anyway can now direct my spend to a different or new card.

swanning_it I also discussed this except they "credit" the following year fee now, so that when the annual fee actually gets charged you have technically been "refunded". If you then cancel, the fee credit gets reversed.

Just need to be aware if trying to get the fee waived then cancel before the anniversary date you will be up for the $289

Hmmmm......well considering that they seem to have also stopped giving points and SC's out on the two41 deals and also changing the points being awarded i think i will be cancelling my card and looking at better deals elsewhere. There's just no benefit anymore.

What is the usual minimum time period between cancelling a credit card and then re-applying to earn the sign-up bonus points?

Changes to earn don't look good but I never used this card that much. The balance transfers are enough for me.

The $129 Virgin voucher could come in very handy. The 2 for 1 flights are useless for someone travelling alone.

Existing credit card holders generally get stampeded in the rush to sign up churners.

Have had the Virgin Money "flyer" card for the past few years (+1 has one as well)
Also use a range of Amex's which have come and some gone (Wpac, NAB, ANZ, Cba and now Amex Velocity).

- Will use Amex wherever it is taken, a few thousand $each month
- We nearly max out the $1500 spend each month on both the virgin cards (2-3k)
- We have never paid the annual fee renewal, always had it reversed

The question that remains unanswered in this thread is what VISA / MC options give us 1 point per dollar with the least amount of annual fee ??

I think that was answered, but just now I can't for the life of me remember which damn thread I read it in!

I have the feeling it was an ANZ card which gave two points/$ which transferred through at 1 point per $.......but I can't find the reference to check it.

oops...sorry that was a typo from copying different texts. $375 is the fee (note 6)

Ahh, that sounds better. The old VM High Flyer wasn't far behind that if I recall correctly and with a transfer bonus would take it close to what we used to get with the VM High flyer. That might have to be the next card both +1 and I grab....150K QFF points would be nice.

Has anyone got confirmation that they've actually killed points and SCs on the two-for-one-and-a-bit deals? It sounded like it may have been a once-off...

I've got a pair of those flights booked later this month, so I guess I'll find out. I will absolutely be kicking up a fuss if they try to pull a stunt like that though, as it is definitely not in the terms and conditions anywhere.

(I'll still be cancelling the card long-term, but would be surprised they've started screwing us over already, prior to April Fool's Day.)

I've just been in contact with VFF through this forum and they have been able to credit me the points and SCs (via a TWO41 booking for a flight that hadn't been credited) after I was originally told otherwise my the GCC.

Much credit should go to the VFF reps on here, they were able to sort out this problem in a matter of hours and apologised sincerely for inconvenience and incorrect info I was originally given.
