VIRGIN HAVE STOPPED ALLOWING FREQUENT FLYERS FROM TRANSFERRING POINTS TO KRISFLYER ‼‼‼
i went in earlier to do it and found they have stopped that ability until flights resume. I have a few hundred thousand points I wanted to transfer. I’m worried that too many people have done it, so they are trying to stop more from doing it.

Been heavily predicted here by many savvy members for a week or so, via numerous posts.

The run on the points bank had been getting heavier each day.

I moved over a million points 2 weeks ago, and my partner did same, as this was clearly written in the sands, in block letters a metre high.

Gift cards purchases down to one a day (right now) Aggressively threatening to sue Plats who ask for credit card refunds on domestic flights, that Virgin cancelled and never advised passengers of etc.

Serving water only on 3 or 4 hour transcons (but BUY whatever else you want) ..... the Canary In The Coalmine is singing loudly - sadly. Bungled emails to their eite flyer base this week, about a year extension that basically made no sense to anyone etc.

Ansett all over again - unfortunately. The wheels are falling off.

Qantas have ceased all internet and IFE on all aircraft, snacks only in economy and only refreshment in business class.

Virgin are still offering meals in business, though according to Executive Traveller. Two canaries in two coalmines, if you want to follow that analogy...or maybe there aren't any canaries after all.

Both airlines are doing it tough in these extraordinary times.

@Belindabee there's more than a few who have kept their balances in Velocity. Let's see how we all go :)

You can still get a Sunbeam toaster or hair dryer for 50,000 points as I recall. :)
🤬🤪 🤣

What's the risk in redeeming SQ flights through VA?
I don't want to risk being stuck with a flight I cant use if virgin sinks. Also there is no availability to utilise the points on virgin network, only expensive flight redemption options available for what i want.

What's the risk in redeeming SQ flights through VA?
While usually ticketed immediately, often agreements between airlines mean that payment to the operating airline (SQ) only comes from the ticketing airline (VA) once the flight has been taken and coupon used.

Thus it has happened in the past where an airline has gone broke, and those holding reward tickets on other airlines are subsequently cancelled. Sometimes they are still honoured.

Maybe the VERY little band of Virgin loyalists here can order a toaster, hair dryer, shaver and foot warmer, and swap them amongst each other as and when needed? Very innovative use of a few 100,000 lazy points.

Your concept of little and big is curious.

10 million members as of October 2019 - so, a solid 40% of the population of Australia.

I doubt many of them have KF accounts.

I'm gonna take the risk of redeeming a F class flight through SQ later in the year.

Do not think there is much risk there really, if booked near year end. Worst case - they just put the points back in if they cancel the flight.

The SQ award charts right now are there to use. Booking Biz flights from SYD-Europe in the A380 were about 230RT as I recall, or that kind of figure. So that is a $14,000 type "value" for 500,000 miles. Did not look at SQ First costs, but thier loads will be light for a while so award seats will be there for sure.

Far better option than a few toasters or hair dryers or gift vouchers to some defunct retailer. (To me anyway) :D

And SQ are Star Alliance members, so a ton of partners to get you to many truly exotic end destinations like Faroe Islands or Cyprus or Malta or Albania etc.

YES SQ will likely crank up redemption costs soon enough, based on the mega billons of inward Virgin miles alone in recent weeks, but booking NOW gets SQ awards at current rates AFAIK.

Wow this came into play as predicted by other members recently.

Obviously making changes quickly to reduce the cash burn which is understandable although glad I moved my points over last week to cover a J award to Asia.

I certainly hope though that VA can survive the storm & come back as a strong domestic player.

Yes I regret not doing it when I first thiught of it. I hope Virgin do survive this as well, it would be regrettable to only have qantas. That would be monopoly madness!!
