Virgin's 737s SYD->PER

I'm flying BNE-PER on the 10th and PER-MEL on the 14th. Work will probably book the saver fare (around 400-500 one way). I still have four platinum upgrades but can't use them unless it's a flexi ticket. I can either update to flexi for about $200 one way and then use a platinum upgrade, or pay to upgrade to business. How much $$$ would be reasonable bid ?

Ive always tried to tell by using the booking engine. If there's 8 seats on an a330, I put the gauge mid way through moderate.
on a 737 I would suspect upgrades would be more difficult. It's a gamble regardless.
