We were sent our new flights to Adelaide last night. Mine at 8.15 on Sunday morning and bAlt's after 12 (revenue and rewards bookings). It would give bAlt 40 minutes in ADL before we were due to come back on our still scheduled Sunday afternoon flight. At least I would have got to one of the four Fringe shows we'd booked
bAlt cancelled his booking last night but mine was booked with my Amex $450 credit.
I've just logged in and via chat cancelling was no issue. The rep could see that I had used the credit last November but assured me that the credit would not be reversed. I'll of course get a credit back from Qantas on the card. That $450 will more than cover the cost of the Fringe tickets we can't get refunds on. I won't bother with an insurance claim.

It's super weird Ron. My sister down at Banora Point is getting hammered and here we are with our wall of glass that looks down onto the river wide open.
Not weird. We are on the north side of the cyclone, the Gold Coast is on the south with higher wind speeds. The tracker now shows gale force winds from Just south of Ballina to Beenleigh, pink shading. Appears to be moving to a more southerly cossing again
Wind and rain really just started to pick up significantly here on the Gold Coast. Looking at the radar, it looks like this is the start of the main event:
Qf won't allow routing changes unless flights are cancelled. I have upcoming flights via bne and thought I'd be helpful and reroute since I don't need to go via bne, there are seats available on alternative routes, and it would free up 2 seats (1 to bne and 1 from bne) for people that need them. But no. Even though I've now received a message I can defer my flights for free, I can't reroute without paying an enormous fare difference (sale fare when I bought and now only full fare).
Similar here, but got out on Thursday morning. Not in a hurry to go back, at least until power is restored. Not a big fan of no aircon, no hot water ….
Anyway, it will depend on when fights resume back to BNE.
We are closely monitoring Tropical Cyclone Alfred off the coast of South-East Queensland. The safety of our customers is our number one priority and we are working to assess when flights can safely resume on Sunday. If you would like to defer your travel, we are offering a fee-free date change (up to 14 days from date of travel, subject to availability) or a travel credit if you no longer wish to travel. If you booked directly with Qantas, visit qantas.com/managebooking to make changes to your booking. If you booked through a Travel Agent, please contact your agent directly. Please refer to your email for further information. We thank you for your understanding and we look forward to getting you on your way soon.
Definitely arrived on the Gold Coast, very loud winds and metal street lights are flapping like palm trees.
I’d say gusts are exceeding 100Km/h although obs don’t record that yet (Gold Coast Seaway has 98Km/h but it’s increased since then, just under an hour ago)
Work had Thursday/Friday as work from home only. Today they also added Monday.
Wife works as a casual housekeeper at a motel. She's rostered Monday, Thursday and Friday. Was told not needed Thursday/Friday and at current pace of cyclone is likely to lose out Monday too. There goes her weeks wages.
- Earn up to 100,000 bonus Qantas Points* - Enjoy an annual $450 Qantas travel credit - Don't forget the two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations and two visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Melbourne and Sydney.
With no real idea when my cruise might be leaving and the fact that even if it does it won't be going where I wanted to go, I've cancelled all my flights with Qantas to BNE - taken credits and booked Jetstar to Bali from here in Melbourne, Sunday morning. Got a great price too. Will be back for a PNG cruise in June anyway. Good luck all

Alfred's erratic and slow path, which is likely to continue even after landfall, will unfortunately prolong flooding rain for another 36 hours across south-east Queensland and north-east New South Wales.
The Bureau of Metreorology downgraded the system to a tropical low this morning as it sat off Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, and was moving slowly north

Can I get opinions on what will happen with this JQ flight due to land at BNE on Sunday morning please?
If the airport is still closed, will they not leave ICN or will they divert to another Aus airport (SYD, CNS?)?

A cyclone rating is based purely on wind speed.
When Jasper crossed Dec 2023 it was the stalled system 3 days later that caused all the flooding. I'd be concerned if it just sits off the coast and slowly comes inland over the next 24-48hrs with how much rain could fall in SEQ (as appears to already happened in Northern Rivers)
