Viva Las Vegas, baby, yeah!

If you want some freebies download the MyVegas app, don’t spend a cent on chips but use the free ones and earn rewards.
I've heard of this, but I go to the app store and there seems like there's a few to choose from. Which do you recommend?

I will likely grab a players card if I gamble, since it can't hurt. If I earn something I can't redeem maybe I can pass it on somehow.

Good tip on the morning games table lessons, I'll keep an eye out. I like learning and if it's free I can learn without risk!

There’s a few but they all link together. MyVegas Slots gives you the most points, but Blackjack is the most fun. There’s also Tetris that is actually in the ecosystem (that gives you MyVegas points).

iOS links:

There’s also a Facebook version.

You will need to sign up to MGM Rewards when you get to Vegas to use the free rewards.

If you don't mind a bit of reminiscing @Drakecula , I can recount that on my first visit to Vegas (1978 - last year of high school), the highlight 'attraction' was the moving walkway at (old) Caesar's Palace that arched over the carpark to take you into the maw of the casino. No equivalent to take you back out to the curb however 🤣 . The Stardust was about the most garish place on the Strip and even had moving lights! Vegas was still run by the Mob, then (see the last pic, below).

When you checked in, you'd get a roll of nickels to take to the slots. You could use them over an evening, get a free steak dinner and booze and not have to dip into your own pocket.

Resorts World (a loosely Asian themed Casino - or probably more accurately an Asian chain that opened a casino in Vegas) stands on the former site of Stardust.

They have a few tributes to Stardust inside.

I was fortunate to see the last remnants of Frontier (including the iconic neon sign) just after it closed in 2007.

Speaking of old casinos - Tropicana is closing on 2nd April, to be replaced by a MLB stadium (that many are saying looks like the Opera House and should now be the site of an Aussie themed hotel).

A friend and I did our first trip to Vegas in early 2006, and visited the Frontier. We had a couple of ".. this is just so wrong..." moments there, as we did in many other places in Vegas.

Check out here though:

An Aussie themed hotel - that should be interesting (and not in a good way). You can still experience the genuine Aussie experience here
Check out the Kookaburra Wings ".. that's what Aussie call Buffalo Wings"

My friend with our trusty companion Skippy, who sat in the back seat of the convertible - outside the Outback Steakhouse

And across the road, you could get anything you needed in the one store - although no guns.

I heard Lady Gaga was headed to Vegas, so I snapped up a ticket! I was hoping there would be someone cool in town while I was there (other than the already cool things in residence) so hooray! I think Tiesto is also in town while we're there, but I don't think he's performing at a time that MrD can make, so I'd feel bad going without him. Lady Gaga is safe as he's not fussed on seeing her.

I have done some more 'research' by watching Ocean's Eleven. I think I will also have to watch The Hangover, although I don't plan on my trip going that chaotic.

The flight sim expo is also planning some activities as part of the experience, so I think we may take advantage and book some things through them as MrD no doubt will make connections with people and want to do some things with them. I think Penn and Teller is one of the options, so that's good.

We saw Penn and Teller there in 2019 and they were fabulous!!! So generous with their time after the show so people could get selfies and the whole show was fantastic.

We also saw the Blue Man Group which is very witty percussion and physical comedy. Yeah, I know it sounds weird but it’s amazing. Have a look on YouTube.

I was actually in Vegas on Halloween in 2012 when they filmed the scene with Chow parachuting off the roof of Caesars Palace...actually there were 3 different parachute guys and they all landed on the closed off road, didnt know until later on what the movie was but.

Blurry blue smudge is a parachute.

More bookings have been made! Penn and Teller, check. Helicopter tour to Grand Canyon, check. Tournament of the Kings, check.
I mentioned in the AI trip planner thread that I might ask ChatGPT or similar to come up with some activities for me while MrD is at the expo. And see what it comes up with. It could be awful, it could be great, but I will document the experience!

Just over a month to go! It's starting to feel real.

You missed it...
Post 1 - Rio where the convention is.
Yep, at the Rio. I know it's gone under a lot of renovation, and it's probably still on going, but I'm hoping it'll be a nice place to stay. Even if it is a bit away from the strip.

Highly recommend Cirque du Soleil Beatles love production, at the Mirage.
Also a chance to experience the Mirage before it shuts its doors in July.

Thanks to @justinbrett 's tip on MyVegas, I've converted some of the points I earned by playing some apps into vouchers. I've mostly picked up two for one coughtail vouchers, but did use a voucher for 50% off two Tournament of Kings tickets and a voucher for a complimentary photo to go with our helicopter tour. The voucher for Tournament of the Kings was used pretty easily (gave me a code when I booked so I got the discount), so I hope it will be just as straight forward for the other vouchers. They came with instructions which are mostly, go to the rewards desk and get it converted into something that the MGM Rewards system uses. So yes, you have to sign up to MGM Rewards to redeem. I'm planning on printing out my vouchers to avoid any issues with technology! :D

I will report back on how easy it was to redeem the vouchers on the ground.

Today's the day! We've just arrived in SYD, earlier than expected because we got to fly ahead. More time in the lounge in SYD for us! We only had about 20 mins to board after check in and bag drop, but I took MrD to the lounge in CBR cause he'd never been.
