Re: Virgin Atlantic axing SYD to HKG

It's just this sentence below that makes me nervous...:

What would happen to Australian Flying Club members who have a balance of Flying Club miles?

We would encourage our Australian Flying Club members to continue earning and spending Flying Club miles as normal for now. We would then contact those members with a further update, following the final decision on the intention to withdraw our operations.

Why do you think they would close AU accounts and you would forfeit your miles?

I am more worried about what to do witb the relatively high miles balance I have and not being able to use before 05 May .

You need to decide today if its a HH transfer, which of course can then allow miles to be transferred to another program, as the ration changes tonight.

Re: Virgin Atlantic axing SYD to HKG

Yep I'm in limbo if I should just dump 160000 VS miles to HH today or just use it on VS metal next time from HKG or LHR or even NRT.

Do HH points expire after 1 year of non activity (stay)? or is transferring from AMEX to HH considered activity?

  1. Members who do not have eligible activity as defined in a. - d. below in any 12 consecutive month period may be removed from the Program and are subject to forfeiture of all accumulated points. At the discretion of Hilton HHonors Worldwide, such Members may be permitted to remain in the Program and removed after five years of inactivity. To keep accumulated HHonors Points, the Member must take one of the following actions within a 12 consecutive month period:
    1. a. stay at a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio pursuant to the terms herein;
      b. earn HHonors Points through any third party source of HHonors Point accumulation, including a Hilton co-branded credit card, pursuant to its terms;
      c. purchase HHonors Points; or,
      d. donate points through The Hilton HHonors Giving Back Program.

Re: Virgin Atlantic axing SYD to HKG

Thanks Markis. Decisions decisions if I should transfer to HH...

A big disappointment for hkg - syd.

VS had held down economy, pe and j fares across the market for sometime now.

Agree totally ......and they also offered good value reward seat buy ........ Loss of a direct service from any Aust. port to HGK that falls under the VA / Velocity umbrella is bad news also ...... HKG via SIN - no thanks unless there is some R & R value also ..... That is one large -ish hole Velocity, by hook or by crook, need to plug in hurry.

I don't see that that implies they will cancel the points. Many of us have points with airlines that don't fly here. Maybe they will organise a "swap" with VA.

I'm going to nitpick here. Hong Kong Airport has the IATA code HKG. There is no HGK, but there could have been and it can get confusing when you don't use the right code ;)

Likewise, SIG is San Juan, Puerto Rico, Isla Grande Airport. It's clearly not what you meant, and it's useful to know the correct code, which is SIN (assuming you meant Singapore) :p

Hopefully that helps in the future :)

More IATA codes.

Thanks for the heads up but definitely not going to be a Hhonors transfer.

I almost had enough for a business class return to HKG and Hhonors feels that is equivalent to one night in Hilton Pattaya. No thanks.

I would rather waste the VS miles on a flight redemption to nowhere. Or maybe a generous swap wigh VA.

Business Class return to HKG was 80000 Miles, does that mean the Hilton Pattaya costs 160000 HH points for a night? If you have 75000 VS miles thats 150000 HH points or in fact three nights at the Hilton Pattaya, or for almost 10 nights at the DT Bangkok (160K)

Ok so 2 nights in Hilton Pattaya. I don't really like the constant Hhonors devaluations. Fantastic when you can get those 10,000/night redemptions but I don't want to change holiday venues in order to be able to use the points.

Even transferring 60,000 VS miles to Hhonors today snd receiving 120,000 Hhonors points I think the best I can get from a transfer is 18,000 miles in some airline program. Poor transfer ratio. Can I get better value from VS?

I have looked at it and could not find better value, the HKG flights were good with HH coming second from my perspective.

VS Upper Class to QF A380 Business? :)

Better tell him to select a seat in the middle block though, otherwise he won't have direct aisle access.

Also, the EK lounge in LHR, as far as I know, has no spa, no barber and no dedicated check-in lobby. On the other hand, he might be able to keep, switch or get a chauffeur.

Hi Does anyone have a current phone number for Flying Club in Australia, as is not listed on the VS website.
Cheers

JohnK,

You can also redeem syd-kul return on MH in J for 80000 VS miles. Not sure if that is better value or transferring to HH...
