Water Levels Rising In Brisbane CBD

as a side note, the whole of the vodaphone network has collapsed.
Vodaphone say's the failure is across all Qld services including internet.
Don't mean to be cheeky but my mobile phone is still going and yes you guessed it.

Posted using Vodafone mobile broadband.

I'm at work, and sneaking in the odd post when l can. ;)

Glad you are, rang mum a couple of times tonight the last time to tell her to dig out the old style corded phone that doesn't need mains power

The vodaphone announcement was logged from their CCO at 8.14pm via a release to the Bne DMC. Who then alerted the regionals

Just passing info on as it comes to hand.
I'm not in a position to verify.

Mind you there is such a huge amount of info passing through the system at the moment, and rising. There will always be the odd hiccup.

I just cannot see how Bne airport can continue to opperate more than a day or 2 at the most.
Even without flooding.

All primary airports are self sufficient for power if need be, and can last indefinitely on gen sets, ATC has their own, it's a legacy of prior government ownership. In Melbourne the major gen set is in between the DJ and Tiger terminals colocated with the police with another two located elsewhere. You can read about the newest BNE one here: http://automationit.com/casestudies/Bris_AP_NCS_Case Study.pdf

In short, don't worry :lol::lol::lol:

They don't want a repeat of today. EMS were blocked virtually everywhere at ground level and choppers could not fly due to weather.

Sorry but that info is not correct, there were plenty of chopper movements:

That's just the EMQ fleet movements in BNE CTR, there have been plenty of media and military movements as well despite mostly IMC conditions.

Thanks for the airport info, appreciate it.
But that does not alter the fact of people getting to and from.
Whats an airline without passengers. You could be right inthat maybe reduced services might still keep things going.

Re the chopper movements
Yes your right, but most flights during the day were kept down & they did not start to clear till mid/late afternoon. There was the odd weather break, but few and far between.

By that time the roads in and out of the city were already blocked with traffic Which was why ground services were having so much of a problem.
as the weather improved throughout the day so did air actions.

But they were saying this in the news all day.
Now the the rain has almost done its course and will continue to clear to the odd shower through tommorow. I would not see air as being the problem it was today.

EMS are more worried about tommorow in the cbd hence them useing "any & all means" to keep the city clear.
It was also one of the reasons the disaster declaration was imposed. To give the authoritys the power to force, evac and detain. Powers which they don't normally have.

Well l finish work in 20 mins and then a single malt for moi.
Its been a hell of a day.
Good luck tommorow my southern friends.

Look out NSW the rains on its way

Given the news about the floods and situation in BNE, I've decided not to fly for my SYD day trip this morning.

Bless QF with 24/7 reservation line. Have changed my day trip to next Monday 17 January, all without charge. Had a brief yarn with the lovely lady who handled my call.

Memo has been sent from the university. We have the day off today - staff are not required to present themselves at work and no leave will be consumed.

I've been given the day off.

If only Mr karens had his act together I would have a birthday present but no, he's blaming the flood. But at least I'm allowed bacon instead of Special K for breakfast.

When we lost power for 5 days in 2007 because of the "Pasher Bulker" storm, the local (Wangi Wangi) exchange failed after a couple of days, possibly due to battery discharge.

Well I've just checked in at BNE QF Domestic. No signs of any real problems at the airport, everything seems normal. Ridiculously easy drive down the gateway motorway, almost no traffic.

There has been an appeal to stay off the roads , thus making it easy for those emergency workers.

I returned to Brisbane from the Gold Coast yesterday to help at work. Some of our staff have had flooding. One is stuck in Esk.

Wife rang and said "stay there" . Hmmmm, maybe she will get stuck at the casino and not be able to leave...lol.

Our Brisbane office is closed and without power. Its on Coronation Drive, or at least it was last time I looked . Have not seen it among the flotsam heading towards Moreton Bay as yet. All staff told to stay home until further notice - work from home if you can and stay safe.

Is anyone else finding the weather too calm this morning? Cloudy but blue sky with the sun out. Not raining. My guess is a downpour this afternoon .

According to a press release from the Brisbane Airport Corporation, some people were erroneously told that the airports were evacuation centres, with some 150 people turning up.

What the.

In other words I need a WP like you to meet me at the airport so I can have birthday drinks at the QP. Wonder how long it will take me to get there........

Our office is on Ann St, so have great views of the river rushing by this morning. Will be interesing to see it rise over the next day or so.

Was the quickest bus ride in this morning!
