If you can book your JQ flight in your QF pnr eg BNE/SYD on QF then SYD/MEL on JQ it's possible to receive both boarding passes from QF checkin provided the link between QF & JQ systems is working at the time. As JQ35 is an international flight number the QF system thinks you're travelling overseas so will issue a JQ boarding pass whereas it won't if you're on a regular JQ domestic flight operated by an A320.

Yes they can check you in, but your stuck with whatever seat allocation JQ gives. They couldn't change it for me at CBR, I had to go to the checkin desk at SYD for that...

Of note to further F lounge runs, especially those arriving on DJ, the QP in T2 will print your JQ35 BP with pleasure, although it looks odd on QF stock!

Thanks for the heads up Mark.
Would that mean you could then catch the QF transfer bus to T1?

Officially you can only use the Transfer bus if a) you've arrived domestically on QF, or b) are connecting to an OW service. JQ doesn't fit that profile...

Either way, from T2, you might as well use another transfer method (and accept the $5 or so cost). To use the QF transfer bus you would need to walk to T3 - 5/10 mins, then clear security, then wait for the transfer bus etc.

Ah, yes. Thanks for that - too much hassle and time involved!

Hmmm ... refused at both the MEL QP and JL last night for JQ215. Maybe I should have gone to JQ domestic check-in.

They even looked shocked at my suggestion - "Can't do it for international".

Maybe something to do with JQ215 is a physical international flight MEL/AKL as opposed to an international flight flying domestically within Oz eg JQ35 SYD/MEL. Wonder who has the JQ contract for intl checkin in MEL? If not QF then that may explain it.

Strange the MEL J lounge printed mine out no problems last time.. She just said, give me a minutes as i need to log into that system..

What flight number/destination was that ie are we comparing apples with apples in Serfty's example?

It sounds as though QF in MEL have the contract to do JQ checkin at MEL as they obviously have the ability to log in to the JQ system ie have a valid JQ signon & password with other QF ports physically can't do if another ground handler has the contract eg Menzies or Skystar.

However in light of the above that's even more reason why QF in MEL should have been able to issue the boarding pass. If you had the scenario that you were flying DJ ADL/MEL JQ36 MEL/SYD theoretically the JL or QP at MEL should be able to issue it.

If the JQ flight was booked via the QF website in conjunction with a QF flight eg BNE/SYD QF507 & SYD/MEL JQ35 QF don't even need to checkin to the JQ system as they can just print it out from Altea as QF have the IATCI agreement to issue JQi boarding passes however AFAIK it can't be done in isolation ie there must be a QF flight first in order for the subsequent JQi boarding pass to print.

In the case above sometimes the link may be down between QF & JQ but as some BNE participants found out even though QF couldn't print the JQ boarding pass, when they went to JQ checkin they said "oh you're already showing as being checked in so I'll just reprint your boarding pass".

Those who booked JQ35 directly via the JQ website attempted OLCI & although it didn't print the official boarding pass due to being an intl flight (albeit only SYD/MEL) JQ checkin were still able to do a reprint. I think for some JQ staff doing a reprint is less painful than taking responsibility for doing the initial checkin.
