Wherever possible I try to upgrade to J on KTA-PER or PER-KTA, 9 times out of 10 it's empty and you get looked after and treated like royalty for 2hrs. Sure it's only 2hrs but it's nice to have your own private section especially when the curtains are pulled :)

Though have been on PER-KTA with 10 people on the 737, was a very nice flight!!

Sadly these days the QF flights seem to be 75% to 100% full most of the time!

On one of my first international trips I was traveling solo and was 1 of about 6 in the Y cabin. May have been a SIN-MEL flight with Malaysian? Anyway...

The crew seemed to have no time to do a safety briefing. They were shuffling around the cabin quite a bit when the engines suddenly started roaring and we were charging down the runway. There was no announcement from the captain to prepare for takeoff so none of them were seated. One fell over and the rest took the nearest seat they could find.

I thought this was relatively standard at the time. Now I know better. :)

Yes on CX once they started the roll with the girls walking about. Unusual.

In F once on QF63, 3 in F and 3 crew (great crew, older males with a great sense of humor). One of my best flights ever.

Remember the early days of 747 long hauls with 4 seats across the middle being vacant? You first action was to grab a blanket and throw it across the 4 seats before take off so as to mark it as YOUR sleeping space. Who needed J or F as those 4 middle seats were a really nice lay flat and horizontal bed well before F or J flat sleepers and for a -Y fare. Was a good time to get a seat in the last Y cabin.

Sure do, those were the days. The only downside was attempting to breath amongst all those smokers - always seemed to get stuck in the last row of the non-smoking section......which meant you had a lovely smoke like tsunami rolling over your head

Actually, smokers made a habit of seating themselves in non-smoking seats, and wandering down to the smoking area when the needed a puff.

I got to sit in the first row of Y on a lax-syd flight looking straight into a completely empty J cabin. They didn't even close the curtain. Cruel.

Other that that I've had about 10 pax on a 737 to KGI. Told to remain in assigned seats until after take off and then we could move - but not into the J cabin.

That story beats mine. In my pre-AFF days, I was travelling back from Europe with my wife on a QF 747, there would have been maybe 20-30 people in the entire economy cabin. Everyone got their own individual row of 4 seats to sleep on, which was nice :)
I had a similar one from HKG - LHR some years ago. There was to be a cabin crew strike which was cancelled at the last minute. We changed back to our preferred flight but most did not.

About 20 in Y, 5 in J, and I have no idea about F.

I was one of four last year on a late night GA flight from Denpassar to Jakarta. Interestingly, they sat us all together towards the rear of the aircraft and didn't let us move!

They probably needed to balance out the plane. Could have been a load of cargo somewhere.

I have been 1 of 16 on the last LAX-SYD at 11ish on the 744 J all round!
My Family of 6 had the whole f cabin to ourselves on QF744 CNS-NRT
Had the whole Q200 to my self on MHU-SYD on Friday night! (full flight inbound)

I had half an AN 767 to myself when I had to fly to Fiji when the coup happened in 2000. Bugger all people flying over as you can imagine. No upgrades but I had rows of spare seats between myself and the next person!

Friend of mine, travelling on 10 seater service with one pilot. Was only pax so pilot got him up to sit beside him in co-pilot seat. Even let him fly the bird for a couple of minutes!

A friend of mine was flying DRW/GTE & had a pax next to him in the co-pilot seat. The pax casually mentioned that he hand't been home for 10 years & without further prompting told him he'd been in Berrimah (as in HM Prison) because "I killed a man".

I've had an Emirates first class cabin all to myself.

Empty cabin? Have never experienced such in a zillion flights :(

Do they let you smoke?

Sounds like a Russian flight on an Airbus I read about....

In Feb 2008 I was on reserve & got a call asking if I could do a DRW/DIL return that was a last minute adhoc charter so quickly got my things together & headed off to the airport which was a handy 5 minutes away. Our sole pax that day was a German anaesthetist working for Aspen Medical.

On arrival in DIL the Captain went to do the walkaround & immediately noticed a pool of hydraulic fluid around the nosewheel and as we had no engineers based in Dili we had no choice but to stay overnight there. I still remember hearing him say "uh oh, we're not going anywhere".

It was only a few days after Jose Ramos Horta had been shot & as the President was still in a coma so there was a curfew in place so all visitors to the country had to be in their hotel by 2000 as authorities feared civil unrest in case he died. :(

The ground agent took our passports to Customs for us to enter the country & I noticed when we got them back that not only did we have an arrival stamp for that day but a departure stamp for the next day too.

On arrival at our hotel there was a ground of expats in the lounge area & I the first person I saw was a solo pax for the day who came over & greeted me like a long lost friend saying “ja ja ja, my very own stewardess”.

A couple of Canadian Engineers who were based in Dili for the UN’s DH7 aircraft fixed the problem as they also had an endorsement of the Dash8 but we had to have one of our engineers fly over the next morning to sign off the a/c was good for flight.

Minor hiccup as he had less than 6 months validity on his passport so AirNorth weren’t going to accept him. However he convinced them that he was going to remain on the tarmac to sign off the aircraft before flying straight back to DRW so would not actually enter East Timor.

We had a full planeload of pax back the next morning as the a/c did both an am & pm DRW/DIL return on a Friday so we had the pax that were due to fly out of DIL in the am & the pax who were meant to be on the am flight ex DRW were transferred to the pm. The RAAFies did catering for us in the form of sandwiches as we always had return catering ex DRW so had no local arrangements in place.

I made a mental note after that to always put some spare clothes in the flight bag just in case as a hi-viz vest wasn’t the most comfortable choice for pyjamas! :p

But what plane did Aspen charter for this single pax? Isn't there a smaller (cheaper) option?!

Dash8.

There isn't exactly a hug amount of aircraft in DRW sitting around waiting to be chartered & the Dash was already there so didn't have to be ferried in empty from somewhere else then ferried back after the charter which would have added considerable cost.
