Not me, I certainly don't believe in equality! :p

You only have to look at Everyday Rewards to see how data can influence shopping loyalty and spending. It may seem a little unrefined but with continued data collection Woolworths will probably know when you are about to run out of deodorant!!! You have to assume QF and DJ are not far behind....if not in front.

How true is that! I think EDW are in front on the artificial intel front.

I've gone all snobby in my wine selection these days, however previous when I purchased with reward offers from woollies they had my patterns pegged, prob shot a note off to AA in the process!!

Well I maintained Gold with 680, some award flights with Etihad obviously no points for them. Have earnt another 130 in the last 2 weeks, so may make platinum eventually in the next 3 to 4 with a couple of VA flight numbers booked for OS.
Was still quite annoyed considering how many dealings I have had with them this year and lots of money spent (sent an email last week stating all the facts)
Wasn't impressed with the J service I got last week, so I'm a little Virgin unhappy at the moment, when normally I'm shouting their praises.

I haven't been buying into this whole 'comp' issue as I figured if the shoe was on the other foot I too would be taking advantage of it, however after seeing the last example I am starting to agree with what you have said. I am a 'BIS' FF and I am Platinum and re-qualified for Platinum about 6 months ago. My review date is end of October. Because of Family Pooling my daughter became Platinum a few months ago and this week my wife should also become Platinum. I am starting to wonder the value of our loyalty.....
That`s a lot of family platinums. Congrats. I guess that is one big advantage of their program being able to pool status points.

..and yet Qantas have seemingly upgraded some folk on the Gold Coast to platinum.....

I saw that. I think it was people who where QF status members up until QF pulled out of OOL. In my case, I have never flown with anyone but VA. But presently I'm negotiable.

If anyone has received their new packs (either through requalifying / recomped to same status, or dropped to lower status)..... I've noticed something interesting with my Gold pack. It's much shorter than my Platinum pack I received last year. To be precise, it only has 2 bag tags rather than 3 bag tags. Of course, to compensate for the shorter pack, the sturdy metal cords also have to be shorter to account for this.

Is this a Platinum vs. Gold pack thing, or is this a new Virgin status pack thing, or is this a dropped status / requalified status vs. newly qualified status thing?

Note this is not a rant - it's seriously not a big deal, 1 bag tag less and (despite them being a bit harder to tie up) metal tie cords being about 2 inches shorter.

The gold pack I got last year had two tags.

I'm in status limbo land at the moment, so nothing this year!

Re: Bag Tags - isnt that in line with luggage allowances (Dont Gold get 2 bags, plat get three bags???)

An extra baggage tag use to be an advertised benefit of Platinum, however it seems it's disappeared off the website in the past few months, makes sense really because you can call up and ask for replacement baggage tags.

My Plat requal (earned BIS as well)
was card only.

No pack.. no tagS.. no love.

Sorry to disappoint but my requalification got me a new card only.

I was Gold before last years status match and received the 2 gold card pack in late August.

After the SM I received the three card WP pack.

After being downgraded late last month, yesterday, I received another 2 gold card pack.

I have never used any of them.

Well it's certainly a kick in the guts. Requaled for gold on 950 SCs, no upgrade to plat, and now I don't even have my new card after the 1 month grace period.

Given the sheer volume of status matches who got a 2nd free year at plat with almost no flying - I'd be rather ticked at only being gold with 950SC!
Heck, I only bothered to cruise in at 805 SC to keep Plat, with the rest of my flying going towards P1 requal.

Can-o-worms giving free plat to low sc earners, virgin!

If you don't have a lot of SCs (or none) in the earliest of the previous 12 months, you could probably still easily get Platinum if you get a shade over 50 SCs in the next month, thanks to Virgin's rolling 12 month rule for tier qualifications. So not entirely that bad (with QF, it would definitely be "dammit, gotta start all over again").

1st post guys...please be gentle :)
My partner just received another years Gold comped...he has just qualified QF Platinum for the 1st time and had done basically no DJ flights st all since he was status matched last year (only a quick Asia flight and some Air NZ internal flights...).

Am wondering though- he is now Hilton HHonors Diamond after taking up the HHonors Gold status which came with the DJ status match- could the two marketing depts. be organised enough to be keeping tabs on good customers from partner agencies? Probably a bit far fetched, but you never know...

Well my account ticked over today, plat to gold. Ok no probs, my only question regarding the process is I was a lounge member, then gold, compd plat now back to gold. Ok so I got what I deserved for my amount of va flying, gold, but am kind of taken back reading all the other comps given why I didn't qualify.

Oh well, too bad and I'm sure there is wisdom in their madness.

My flying patterns won't change too much, so this time next year I will be questioning the same :-|

Mine ticked over a week ago. Still showing platinum status but review date 4 Oct 2012. Number of Virgin SC's, well, um 0, compared to 40 with Qantas, not a flying year for me (except star alliance airlines) I'm afraid! Not hoping for anything but odd it seems to be frozen like that.

I got my statement today on e mail and they have requal me at Plat.

I am going to use the free upgrades.

Review date 10th October

340 SC plus another couple of bookings

Just checked website and Platinum confirmed until Oct 13 ;)
