Sorry but it is no longer a capitalist world anymore. It is a tech, influencer, social media world. In the long run it will too come to grief.Maybe sooner rather than later.
yep

and the tech influencers Zoomers don't actually need to get on a plane.

from the goss in The Oz, corporate travel has "tanked" while leisure travel is a fabulous earner (while QF Holidays have recently offered 50% discounts on points for tour trips, including Y fares - QR J add $12,000, EK J add $11,000)

OWA is a product across all the OW airlines, they cant include non OW partners.

QF could offer a separate award type for more points that could include partners, but could not market it as OWA.
Except that the Global Explorer oneworld fare (mileage based RTW fare) does allow selected non oneworld members (Aer Lingus, Bangkok Airways, WestJet, Fiji Airways, QF coded Air Tahiti Nui and all Jetstar franchises [except JL coded GK])

Why not allow at least those non onewold members on the QF oneworld award?

You are comparing a paid fare with an award.

That's why AA went to a pure spend-for-loyalty program, and I think it's genius from a business point of view. It encourages irrationality in your spending practices, and the company doesn't care as long as you're spending the cash with their co-branded card. With the Hyatt example though, you could just buy the points (probably over a spread of family accounts with the 60k cap) and move them around to also create the same example of the nights with 0 base points earned.

Kinda makes zero sense to go for status without spending any time in the hotel/plane though. How are you actually getting any benefits out of status? There's a reason QF keeps status "locked" behind payment for airfares, with the sole exception of PC/PC+ CR seats.
It also means that people are spending cash they don't have to get those points and will lead to increased bankruptcy's when they are unable to pay off those credit cards.

Not necessarily. Most people who are gaming AA's loyalty program are simply manufacturing spend (eg purchasing Visa/Mastercard gift cards then liquidating them for cash).

Things generally not available here (due to exclusions etc).

And is this what the airlines want?

It is possible that the airlines want a number of mutually incompatible things.

I suspect they would like
  • customers to be able to redeem for award flights whenever they want
  • to ensure that a customer never redeems for an award seat when they would otherwise have paid for it
  • to ensure that they never sell an award seat when they could have sold it for revenue
  • to have customers redeeming on QF metal rather than partner airlines
  • not to release more inventory for awards
  • to minimise the cost of customer support for awards
  • to extract maximum value from each redemption, including some kind of variable pricing so people who want the seats most will pay the most
  • to have happy customers
  • to sell ever more points because they are profitable.

So I wonder when it is going to be officially announced? They dumped some bad news at the start of this week (rise in QC prices). Wonder if we'll see them drop any further bad news they have that'll quickly get overwhelmed by the news of the changes. They did the media pre-announcement last week. Maybe Thursday?

When do we get to see the extra toasters that we can use our points to buy?
There's about 50 of em now in the Marketplace since they've massively expanded their product offering, how many more do you want? 😂

Is this a part of the investment? :) Found a new look dashboard of sorts on the QFF 'My Account' page today; I don't mind it, actually. The links under each item just go through to what was there before. Nothing new in terms of detail, but a nice way to present the basics, IMHO.

It also references 'Qantas Club' in my memberships and tiers; I wonder if that's the residual from what I had 20 years or so ago when I first attained Gold. Does anyone who is WP/P1 + LTG & who has got their QC residual fee back see this differently?

Agree. It seems to be progressively being rolled out.

I would say completely for QPs as from the release all they are getting is new furniture.

I am WP and reached LTG last July and received a refund for residual QC membership. Nevertheless, the dashboard shows that my QC membership continues until February 2026.

Cheers,

I wonder if the qantas club in your membership isn't your free one from Points Club Plus, which is obviously redundant, but still technically exists...

Got the new landing page today, as well. Referring to the convo about FF vs loyalty (frequent buyer / churner) program, this also shows your loyalty first and only then goes to travel. The next iteration perhaps sees the flight booking element demoted down on the page so that your points are the very first thing popping up.

Also possible, I guess - I have QP via WP, PC+ & residual QP membership... if only I could trade them all for something nice! :)

i had this niggling fear that the changes would include a move away from SC toward a spend based program. This mornings releases would imply otherwise which is a bit of a relief.
