Westpac dumps AMEX - changes points earn on MC

Cancelled my Altitude Black today. Not even an attempt to keep my business. Ended up, through layers of customer service incompetence, getting 105000 QFF points for no annual fee on this one, so another point for banks being more valuable when they mess up than when they don’t.

Interesting - can I ask how you got the 105K points?

Same here.. Called to cancel the black card, the service agent didn't even offer anything to keep the card. Guess it was good while it last. At least I still have the amex discovery to keep pushing qantas points to my card.

Honestly, a bit of a pain.

I signed up for the 20k + 80k / $195 Point Hacks offer.

They didn't make the contractual deadline for transferring the 20k bonus, so pushed for an annual fee refund with their customer experience team (not front line customer support) and got it fairly easily. We agreed then that the 80k would arrive by a certain date, again in line with the contractual terms for the offer. They missed that date too, and I pushed for added compensation. They added another 5k points on, which didn't come close to covering the time taken and annoyance caused but whatever, it's done now.

The other notable thing about this card is that you can get the Qantas lounge passes for a $1.04 carbon offset donation (guide to this elsewhere on AFF) and also get the 2 x Priority Passes even if signed up to QFF scheme.

Because I have not accepted Amex is automatically ceased when receiving free with altitude Visa?

If you refer to the Westpac issued Amex, I thought it was pretty clear that it would stop working whatever you do.

I thought 5 pm today?
Declined this morning!
The message on Westpac doesnt give a time.
As a reminder, your Westpac-issued American Express Card closes on 4 April 2018, so you'll need to update any recurring payments linked to this card before this date.

Mum has the Altitude Black Card for Qantas earning $250 per year + $50 Qantas fee ($300 total) to earn 0.75 points per $. With the loss of the Amex card thinking of getting her to cancel and if they don't waive the yearly fee, move onto the Qantas Premier Platinum Card for the same yearly fee and earn 1 point Per $ for a non Amex card.

Thoughts? Any other cheaper 1 point per $ Qantas earning non Amex cards?

I need to cut up those Westpac Amex Kris Flyer CCs now that they are kerput. Lucky I have titanium bladed scissors to do the job.

hi, signed up for the amex black, spent my $3,000 and got credited 40,000 bonus points which haven't gone over to altitude rewards yet, now after april 4th westpac was saying that the altitude platinum card the points are not capped but in my account it is still capped at 7,500, anyone know if this rule is for new cards only??? my new month started on 3rd april so hoping the points cap will drop off next month, thanks.

Mrscove had lots of our telephone, internet and Foxtel being auto paid on Kris Flyer Amex. We were notified by Telstra that a bill was rejected on the 6th April. This is inconvenient as we are travelling.

Despite my best efforts I suspect this may happen to me too. Fortunately I'm not travelling.

Re your experience with WBC Black Altitude/Amex Black, having cancelled the Amex card, keeping the WBC Black Master card, later realising I had 200k points sitting in Altitude account, called service to move points to Qantas but told no dice. The black M/card not a business card they said. Is there any way around this? I prefer to have points in Qantas where I can use them more easily. Appreciate whatever advice you've got. Haydenlee

Don't think you've got any chance to do this, per the following clause in their T&C's.

2.2 When you switch your card from Altitude Rewards to Altitude Qantas programs in accordance with the conditions above, the terms and conditions of Altitude Rewards (as relevant) will continue to apply to the Altitude Points you have already earned through Altitude Rewards.

☝️ Royal commission awaiting your ☎️

For what reason, it's outlined what happens with remaining points in their T&C's, which you agree to (and isn't unreasonable whatsoever).
