It is now over 1 month since this OP - has anybody come up with an alternative that might earn 1:1 on Visa / MC for those of us that chase KF points as opposed to Qantas? From 1/3/11, purchases in Australia on Platinum Visa will earn 0.5 points per dollar (reduced from 1). No change to earn rates on all other cards.
I have spoken to them about this and was told as soon as the card is canceled, so is the extended warranty
Checked with Zurich - insurance and extended warranties still remain even if the card is cancelled
Just need to show the item on your statement when making a claim
On a somewhat related note.. if i booked a SQ fare for December this year but cancel my card after the September renewal would I still get the double miles for SQ bookings? I wonder...
The double points come through as Bonus Miles on the statement upon which the charge appears. The points post to KF on or about the same day as the Westpac statement is produced.
Do it!
have done it the last 2 years.
even better if you get to use the voucher as the grandstand tickets are quite expensive.
Less than a month remaining for Westpac SQ Visa to earn 1:1 - I still see nothing on the horizon to take its place in terms of Visa / MC KF points earnability - have I missed something?

I would assume purchase date is applicable date - would that not be logical?Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum Visa ® Card purchases with merchants located within Australia - earn 1 KrisFlyer mile per $1 spent on purchases until 14 March 2011 (will be 0.5 KrisFlyer mile per $1 spent on purchases 1 from 15 March 2011)
I got caught when the commonwealth changed their points to 0.5 for $1
They gave 1 point per $1 to the end of the statement and then 0.5
My statement with Westpac is around the 4th of the month, do I get 1 point per $1 until the 4th when they transfer the points to krisflyer or until the 14th of march ?
Do any one knows for sure ?
We can lose a lot of points.
I would assume purchase date is applicable date - would that not be logical?
Hmmm - banks implementing a logical decision - oxy moron huh?
